Thanks everyone
Stumbled into Coffeeshop Kooi next to the Old Amsterdam shop. Nice service, kicked off the trip with white widow pre-rolled, bit pricey but it was super tasty and the place is tiny and quiet which is what we were after.
Will take in a bit of what was offered above. Many thanks!

Couple friendly coffeeshops
Hey all, Been a while since I posted here. I return every now and then to read travelogues and reviews and the like. My first trip to Amsterdam in 5 years, after having visited 3 times in the 6 years leading up to that last visit. The first three times I was in town, I was with friends who kind of h...

Re: traveling outside the Netherlands with cannabis
Last September I inadvertently took a joint from Amsterdam to Frankfurt on a flight. It was in my jean pockets in my suitcase. Funnily enough my bag was searched in both cities and they didn't find anything...although I doubt much would have come of it even if they did.

Yep, seems that way. I suppose the only things that will survive will be the cafes and bars. Maybe it's for the better? I don't know. But by midnight it was pretty dead.USBONGLORD wrote:They are killing it off slowly

Re: Sir Albert Hotel
Outstanding hotel in a very nice part of the city. Bit pricey but highly recommended. Room service is from a local butcher that delivers freshly made hamburgers, up there with the best I've had in a while. Gorgeous rooms and amazing service. Highly recommended for couples looking to treat themselves.

What's happened to the RLD?
I have been to Amsterdam multiple times - 6 in total - in 2007, 2010 and 2013. In 2007, I remember be in awe of the RLD. The buzz, the excitement, the atmosphere. It was an amazing place. In 2010, it was similarly exciting, but it had lost a bit of the pizzazz: windows had been shut, as had some cof...

Re: Tobacco
IMO stick to the smoking room for tobacco. I got an almighty blast in 2010 when I rolled and smoked a mixed spliff in Dampkring 1, want to avoid that happening again because it was so embarrassing.

Delicious photos And great read!
Hopefully it's not too hot when I'm there later in the month. I hate it when it's above 25 degrees because so few places have aircon and I sweat like a sex worker in church

Re: best coffee in the dam
Good coffee and good gear from the same shop is a rarity in my experiences. If I can I get my coffee takeaway and then go wherever I like for a smoke, rather than look for a place that serves quality one or the other.

Sir Albert Hotel
http://www.siralberthotel.com/ Any advice on this from forum goers? Trip advisor seems pretty positive. Booked in her for 4 nights from the 24th...couldn't resist the deal I came across. $614 AUD, about 400 Euro, for 4 nights. It said down from $819 AUD (about 600 Euro). Managed to snare it super ch...

August 24-27
I'll be in town for the second time this year from August 24-28. At this stage The Winston looks like my locale of residence for the time. I'll be traveling solo (unlike earlier this year when I was with business associates -- only got a few hours to myself!)

Diagnosed: Generalised anxiety disorder
Whilst driving to the Penny Arcade Expo here in Melbourne, I had a sudden panic attack, which I thought was a heart attack. Luckily I had a friend in the car with me who was able to slowly ease me into the emergency lane (we were on the freeway). I'm a little overweight (100kg, 182cm) but fairly fit...

Thanks for starting this thread.
I have similar paranoia so I steer clear of the strong stuff. Even the weakest truffles are too much for my mind.
