Fat_old_dwarf wrote: Fri 24th Aug 2018 11:29 am I was planning to look in at least on this trip, and perhaps try something. But I didn't see any staff I knew, so didn't bother going in. Later I ran into Ingi elsewhere, and she's no longer working there. I should have asked about James and Ahmed, but didn't. So as far as I'm concerned there's no reason to pretend it isn't as bad as it is, or will ever get any better. For those who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing they like, as the saying goes, and I hope they're happy with it.
Have i missed something, or was this place rated so highly on their staff alone?

...Personally, i couldn't care less who is serving, so long as the have decent gear... If i'm staying in the shop it helps if the staff are efficient, the music doesn't suck, and the people are reasonably civilised, but that's as far as it goes...

...I just find it strange that someone would judge a CS just because they don't recognise anyone working in there?!?

...I noticed very little difference in overall atmos and quality, and the staff were friendly, but hey-ho... Horses for courses, i guess!

It's not that. But Utopia was unique. Now, at best, it's Just Another Shop. OK, a shop with a very extensive menu, and if they do manage to supply all that they promise, in a condition that merits the mostly premium prices, that's a USP. But it's a big if, and reports have been mixed; Prix d'Ami does a similar promise-more-than-it-delivers menu, for example. And if they've got rid of Ingi, whose efforts were largely responsible for making it something more than just another smallish shop in the centre, I'm not going in there out of principle. I'm not telling others where to go if they like the place, only stating why I probably won't be visiting again, after over six years of going in at least once on every trip.

Yeah, I get that its a personal thing, but to almost relegate Utopia to a no-go shop just because it changed seems a little unfair...

...It's a shame that Ingi has left, and the place seems to have lost what many here would regard as a unique essence, but I can't blame the shop, or the current staff for that...

...Kinda reminds me of what happened to Basjoe... After it was sold, many people here were devastated, but still gave it a chance... The smoke and atmosphere changed so drastically that Basjoe almost disappeared from the forum.... Be a shame if the same happened to Utopia, especially if its judged from feelings, rather than performance.

...still, I'd rather be in 'the plug' than Prix, anyday. 8)

are you admitting that the dutch have become that terrible at growing cannabis that the only option is the cali (& spanish) imports that the plug specialises in?

The best everybody could do is to boycott that "Cali" weed shit. Also if you got really bad "dutch" weed from a coffeeshop than let the coffeeshop know that you are not happy with that fast finished product and also write a bad review on their social media... There has to be more pressure on the coffeeshops to sell really good products. Even the bigger criminal groups had to look more on their weed when they earn less money.

A big problem is that only a few people really know what clean good weed is... I mean most tourists in Amsterdam have no clue and think they have the holy grail when they got weed from Amsterdam. Amsterdam is full of tourists and so the shops will have many customers even if the quality is bad :?

At the moment the Cali Strains are really hyped :? there are many people coming to Amsterdam only for the best "imports"

Voyagers, Grey Area, Het Ballontje and some others sell still only "dutch" grown weed  and especially Voyagers try to bring that "good stuff" to us but grown in NL  Wedding Cake and Dosidos from them looked really good but wasn´t perfect (like I heard) but in my opinion it´s just a question of time... there must be more of that coffeeshop owners like Andy who give a shit on Cali Weed...

Seems like a lot of shops are keen to cash in on the "cali craze" just going off recent menus I've seen online, suppose its only inevitable that theres gonna be tourist traps selling strains for 30-40£/g to gullible tourists regardless of the quality.

Not been in yet maybe soon but tbh the high prices appearing here and other shops just scare the shit out of me.

Can someone point me at this shop where the owner is not in it for the money please.

Have you ever smoke Cali weed? I understand hating on the high prices, but I don't see how anyone could hate on stronger weed. Not to say all Cali is fire, but the little I have tried of it here was like crack, much stronger than other weed I've smoked, it's just very overpriced.
