Yanks in Zandvoort
Yanks in Zandvoort
ACD Page: Yanks, Zandvoort
Anyone been out to the coast to Zandvoort and tried Yanks? Something about the lure of the coast away from the big city that appeals to me and wanted to know if Yanks was a good stop to make there.

Stayed in Zandvoort for a week, 4 Apr 06 - 11 Apr 06, and found Yanks was one of two coffeeshops left in town. It has a good selection of hash and herb at reasonable prices. Decor of both the coffeeshop and the bar (each is a separate business) have to be seen with your own eyes. A unique display of native ameerican imagery painted by Dutch art students. As with most places in Holland, the people are friendly, as long as you are to them, and there is an assortment of game tables and dart boards available for your amusement. The town itself has a beautiful beach which everyone I spoke to said gets very crowded during the height of summer.
A little rebellion now and then is a good thing.
We walked around in circles for 30 minutes trying to find this place.
I was not impressed by the selection but it the shop looked cool. WIth only 2 shops in town they can sell whatever they want.
The bar next door is smoker friendly and much nicer. Very friendly people including the owner.
Better to have a nice spliff sitting on the beach.

I like yanks
Actually the first coffee shop I ever went to. Got to know the owners, a pair of brothers. Very friendly. Love the interior. Walking distance to the beach.
I hear it has changed a bit since then. I know the last time I went the brothers weren't around, still owned the place, just absentee owners, and the place had lost a twinkle maybe. But newcomers wouldn't notice.
It is unlike any coffee shop in Amsterdam. The American Indian motif, seen through the eyes of a Nederlander, just kinda whacky.
I still think somebody ought get that piano tuned and record a live album in there. Somebody in the music biz is simply asleep.

Yanks and Zandvoort both rule. between Zandvoort and Haarlem is a campground called De Laken, it is on a dune preserve with access to the beach. Sites are availabel for familes or parties. Yanks has always provided me with some of the best pot in my trips to NL. In addition to the complimentary coffees and engaging conversation of the help, I once bought herb on a credit card there. Last place i went with my girlfrien before i proposed. First place I went with my wife in Zandvoort on our honeymoon.
When we visited, the menu looked like this (we bought everything on the first day, just to make sure we can move on to Haarlem without having missed anything):
- Special Yanks Haze 13€/gr. - was a bit like Diesel, citrus-like but a bit too expensive, clear good high
- Power Plant 7,5€/gr. - very mild(smooth), no special taste, OK for the price
- Thai 4€/gr. - not even worth the money...dont buy it!
- White Widow 7,5€/gr. - very smooth taste, good clear high
- Orange Bud 7,6€/gr. - tasted a bit like orange, not much though
The minimum of 12€ per customer was the only bad thing I can say about this shop. The staff is ok, not too friendly, but not bad as well.

No, not far really. Its a nice walk along the beachfront until you get to the casino, there a couple of shopping streets opposite then the coffeeshop is tucked down a little street. Took me a bit of walking around before i found it mindPaco wrote:I ve never made it to Yanks, is it a long walk from the station?
