please help

I have just purchased a 600w hps with the adjust a wings, i have to wire the light socket up but the socket contains 2 openings (for wires) but there are 3 on the cable. anybody no where the third wire goes??

most probably the third wire is the earth.....

yellow/green
brown
blue

but where do they go there is only space for 2

what you could do is buy a 3 point socket and use a converter to plug it in the wall.. .tahts what i had to do last time i was abroad......
sry if i aint that helpfull however i dnt think you are able to remove the earth from the wiring system

It'll need to be earthed somewhere, USBL is an electrician so he should be able to help you.

Not sure which part you mean? I only use Ajusta shades and they are all pre-wired and enclosed where the lamp holder is, and your ballast should be ready wired for your country.

If its the shade are you sure its a real ajusta?

the ballast is all wired up, its the socket that you screw the bulb into that needs wiring so it can be plugged into the ballast.

I have already screwed in 2 wires but there is a 3rd but no where to screw it in?

I'm not a qualified electrician or even close but I've just looked at your pics and I have never wired anything up using the positive (Brown) and earth (Yellow/Green) wires and no negative (Blue) ....

Just had a look on google and found a little information

However, This information may be incorrect for your country.. This needs checking before you do anything. I would also advise you seek professional advice before wiring and plugging anything in.

On your E40 or lamp holder socket as shown below there you will have to see which terminal (1 or 2) is for your centre pin and which is for the outer.

Which would mean that your Blue wire goes to the outer and your brown wire goes to the inner centre. This would mean that you remove the Yellow/Green wire from the terminal you have it in below.

The Yellow/green one will go onto your hood to earth it. Not sure where the earth wire is meant to go on your adjustawings hood tho.

I'm guessing that the other end of you cable is going into your ballast using an IEC/Euro plug/kettle plug looking like this -

Or it may have a notch out of it like this one

This last one is for higher temperatures.

Jeeez.... just heard Michael Jackson has died!!

These Euro plug must also be wired correctly. if not moulded to your cable and pre wired... Live to the L terminal, Neutral to the N terminal and the earth to the E terminal.

I would also like to add that if you have an excess of cabling i.e. from hood to ballast, DO NOT coil the cable up to try and make it tidy. Coiling cable can melt and cause fires as the coil acts as a heating element (correct me guy/girls if I'm wrong here). Better to have the cables the correct length. But NO Coiling of your excess cabling.

Does your ballast have a pre wired plug for you to plug into the wall??

The above information has only been given due to the way I saw the E40 socket wired with Brown and Yellow/Green wires into the fitting and the Blue hanging loose. I also would like to mention that I am in no way qualified to even wire a plug. I would advise that you seek help from someone who is qualified in electrical installations as I would not like to see you burn your house down.

I doubt it is a real Ajust as that part is pre wired and incased in metal to avoid tampering.

When i have my new camera i will drop a pic in here of one of my ajustas to show what i mean.

Nicely stoned and i found the snipping tool in Vista and in Windows 7, which is very handy for adding pics from your screen and better than the old "PRTSC" option

P.S. I would still get qualified advice.
