Skunk is a specific strain and 420 dont sell it.

Indeed - you may find that some of the strains they sell do indeed have a small proportion of "skunk" in their genetic makeup, but they do NOT sell "skunk".

It's like saying, you're going to Amsterdam and you're going to try smoking some of their "weed"...

Great if you can't tell the difference between say, a great landrace Sativa and a couchlock-inducing Indica, but naff all use if you actually want a specific variety.

I wasn't going to say this, but you'd think a "real smoker" would know the difference!

look mate i dont know where your from but it says the uk, and if you was to come to london ( you may be from london but i doubt it) you would know what i meant by saying skunk. and if you want to get into all that about sativas and indicas it's pointless. cause i would say from reading these forums 90% of the people on here aint lucky enough to be from holland. therefore it aint legal where they come from. and then i'll guess maybe only 15% of people on here grow their own. so that leaves the rest of the people like me who have to phone up one of their many dealers to get something nice to smoke. and the usual question you ask them is, is what does it taste like? and does it get you buzzing? now and again you get lucky and the dealer might say he/she has got some cheese or lems (lemon haze) or ak47 or whatever but you very rearly if ever hear them tell you it's a sativa or indica. and yes i would call myself a real smoker, i have been smoking for 14years and i know whats good and what aint. forget all the sativa and indica crap. all the vast majority of people want to know is, and the order of these 2 may change depending on prefrence, is 1) what does it taste like and 2) does it get you stoned!! :D

and please dont take this as a rant, i was just trying to explain myeslf. and the funny thing about this is that if i would have used the word "bud" instead of "skunk" nobody would have give it a second glance

Referring to all bud as skunk would be like calling all bud kush. It doesn't make sense and only makes you look like an uneducated fool. A "real smoker" should know the difference. How this ever became a trend in the UK is beyond me.

Actually 'real smoker' I bet most of the active members of this forum know all about the strains and if said strains are indica/sativa as thats a big part of what type of buzz (high/stone) and/or flavour you want off your smoke, just because you've been smoking for 14 years doesn't mean anything when it comes to ignorance and that I'm afraid is how you're coming across.

This isn't a rant/dig/whatever either by the way just an opinion.

One last thing while I think about it, marijuana isn't legal in Holland either it's just tolerated.

Edit:

Back in the 80's when skunk and super skunk started getting bred/grown it was all everyone here in the UK would ask for or say when asked what they were smoking and it just stuck.

Edit2: It's also what the media decided to call all weed as well.

Mate, for a start, I wasn't having a pop at you. You would have known it if I was. That's what the   is there for...

Secondly, this is, or at least used to be, a forum about Amsterdam Coffeeshops - that premise being that people who review the coffeeshops they visit or who give advice about our favourite city, give rather more accurate reports than "The skunk was alright..." or whatever...

If you visit De Kuil, there are some nice strains available, some will give you a nice energetic high, some will lay you out - people want to know what these varieties are, so that they too can enjoy the good stuff and get the expected result. If I turned up to Amsterdam as a 'weed virgin' and someone told me that that "terminator skunk" they have down the road at Basjoes (for example) was the best thing for an absolute beginner, then I would have been misled into thinking this was a nice mild smoke and would have probably ruined my whole day by unexpectedly losing several hours in a massive whitey - and made myself look a complete twat by causing additional work for the poor staff who would then have to look after my sorry ass until normal service was resumed..

Conversely, as a "hard head", suppose I visit Mokum with the intention of hitting the strongest concoctions available, I am recommended that almighty strain, "orange bud" from somewhere real classy and upmarket, where only the best weed is served, like Grasshopper  ... I sit there getting increasingly pissed off at the total lack of any hit from this lacklustre sample, and once again time and money is wasted.

Both scenarios can be avoided with the good advice and reviews on this site. People come here to be better educated about this stuff, that's all. I've been going to Amsterdam for over two decades, and I still find new things, which I will then happily share with the fine folk on this forum.

Information is a wonderful thing - share it and learn the difference between say, Silver Haze and Super Silver Haze, and it's amazing how much better your experience could be!

Imagine the difference if you walked into t'Nes and just asked for "beer" as opposed to sampling the wider range of tastes and flavours offered there? It's just about opening the eyes of people to what's out there - if you prefer to simply purchase something that just gets you stoned, then why visit Amsterdam, when you could do this at home? If your dealer provides you with something that gets you stoned and tells you it's "Cheese" or whatever, how are you going to know if it really is what he says it is? They sure as hell don't know and don't care. The answer is, if you really just don't care that much, why bother 'reviewing' coffeeshops at all?

Many, many years ago, when I still had to buy my "skunk" off dealers, it was a hit and miss affair and I got sick and tired of paying good money for crap, most of the time. Nowadays, I have, ahem, other means of procuring my supply, and even though it is consistently better quality even than much of the weed I buy in Amsterdam, I still try to make at least 3 visits a year - why? Because I like it. I like to try new things, see new places and faces.

This is a great forum, populated by great people, who give great information, by and large... ;)

If we didn't care about how the "Power Plant" differs to the "Hawaian Haze" then "the vast majority of people" as you put it, would stay at home and buy the rip-off seedy crap pushed by their dealers - however, the "90% of the people on here who ain't lucky enough to be from Holland", or the "15% of people on here who grow their own" still make their presence felt on here and continue to help newbies and 'real smokers' alike feel welcome and offer their wisdom freely... And we still keep going back to Amsterdam whenever we can!

Back on topic - De Kuil serves a good selection of fine wares - the Super Silver Haze has always been my first smoke of any trip (if the place is open!) and is a fine start to a busy day - the NYCD is also a firm favourite - great flavour, and of the hashes they serve there, I have to say the Parvati Creme always does the trick for me.

See how easy it is?

ok, point taken :) but believe it or not i do actually know what your talking about. i just havent got the the time or the greatest grammer to write all that down. i know the difference between a sativa and a indica how some strains can be more of a uppy energetic high and some a really stoned and cant move high. basicly i was just generalising saying the skunk in there was alright. i think i had the nevilles haze and i wasnt too impressed with the taste or the buzz and a few mates had a few different strains each and one of them i tased was the 420 kush which i did like. thats the reason why i said their skunk was ok. i didnt know how this forum worked (although i have been a reader of them for at least 3 years on ond off) but next time in write a review on a cs i will try to remember the strain of "bud" and the reason i used the word skunk is because thats just the word i use i also use the words "punk" or "green". but never weed cause that means your talking about things like high grade and ses. its just the words i use and i have been using them for years. old habits die hard i supose lol.

but all the replys to me about the word "skunk" even know the most of you probaly knew what i was talking about have been quite quite insightful to the workings of this forum and i thank you all for them.
next time i write a reveiw i will try to be more specific :D

Dudes the guy makes a very valid point.

Im British and im sad enough to know alot about Cannabis,

But in the UK if i say to my mates, "shall we get a bag of skunk" we simply mean "shall we get a bag of weed" its just a way of describing green, weed good strength hydro...

Just like saying mary jane, herb or green.

So no attacking saying im a retard and dont know anything about Cannabis just because us Brits, nickname weed Skunk, like yanks call stuff "Dank" etc etc..

But yes Skunk is a type of strain, Like Super Skunk, Lemon Slunk.. hence the confusion.
Thats some Dank Dank Indica............

my mum still calls her dyson a hoover....

apart from waiting on a cease and desist order.... is the above any different ?? ?? .... thanks to the UK media / government and local dialects, here in good ol blighty skunk is skunk, skunk is weed - i.e both the generic and a specific.

In fact, until I learned better I assumed dank / danky was really bad weed - In the UK a dank / danky area is cold, wet, smelly, unpleasant, dark

We are all on here for the same reason - to meet up and discuss our experiences of a common subject

Written text makes things difficult enough to express emotion, inference and dialect - sure the poster could have typed "skunk [the generic]" but who actually would do that !! ... and my moneys on it was typed and sent without a second thought - as its natural to the poster to type / speak that way.

Anyway - I have finally grumbled about it...... Now who wants a smoke? (or vape or eat or however you personally prefer to take / say it :) )
