Damn you geekymonkey! After reading your review I had to go and add Big Buddha Cheese from Basjoes to my list! I'm almost up to 20 strains in 3 days, there's no way I'm getting through all of them lol.
Great write ups, I'm enjoying reading them. And I'm really looking forward to meeting James too, everyone has nothing but positive things to say about him and Basjoes.

Juzz- don't worry if your list is that long, as some of it won't be worth smoking at the time, and just pass it up. Also, don't forget to venture off your list if the budtender has something particularly good to recommend. The best strain to smoke at any shop to me is whichever is the kindest at the time.
Have a great trip!!

I paused on the way out the door to put on my sunglasses and headphones. Summertime Running http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Summe ... ing/2IxBOS, a Mos Def reggae remix by Mos Dub came blasting out. My joy came bursting out in a happy wiggle and I turned it up even further. I turned to wave goodbye to James, and with one more glimpse of his sweet smile I slipped back out into the sunshine. It was already a little after 5:30 when I made it out the door of Basjoe’s, so I really pushed the pace as I cut across the bustling center of the city. Thanks to my last year spent camped on the side of a mountain, I made excellent time, and hit Herengract only a block or two down from Amnesia https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/amnesia.html.

Basjoe’s Cheese
I was still feeling bubbly and all right from that nug of cheese and the quiet was striking after racing through the throbbing summer heart of the city. I took a deep breath and took off my headphones while my eyes sucked in the softer light and quieter energy of this part of the city. A sizzle of sweet anticipation ran through me. DrD is my best friend and DrJ’s best friend. They became Drs together, and we spent years having twice-weekly dinners, celebrating together, failing togther, and behaving shamefully together. He is my older brother in my heart. We hadn’t seen each other in person in over a year, because as both his and the mr’s careers have taken off we have all been way too busy. But really that is no excuse, it had just been too long, but that was about to change.
The whole reason we came to Amsterdam now is that DrD and his siblings were going to be there, so even though DrJ had work ("fuck work" said he), we seized the moment for a reunion. In Amsterdam. Sweet! And now it was mere moments away. Even better, Quick Monkey that I am, I wasn’t even 15 minutes late.
And…hopefully they would be there, I briefly worried… did D even remember to write down the address to the apartment so that he could eventually find us? (never a certainty, as, like most academics, D is a wee bit flakey).

I approached Amnesia, my eyes nervously scanned the benches out front. Sure enough, there were DrD and JD, smiling and heavy eyed. DrD popped up and swept me into a warm hug, and JD handed me a joint. I took a huge pull and exhaled my momentary stress into the blue sky. My the next inhale brought on a warm buzz and I passed the joint to DrD. I hugged JD, who I had chilled with a few times before and really liked. He’s D’s younger brother and he is a kind artistic quiet type of guy. Very Smart. Very Nice. He has good energy.
“Yay!” was the first thing I remember saying. “Where have you all been?”
“Uh, everywhere. We got in at 11 and we’ve been drinking and smoking ever since. I think we’ve smoked six grams. We’ve been on a tear.” DrD said with a huge grin. (That’s my boy. He’s a bad one.)

“Oh, I don’t think your phone is working because I couldn’t get you a few hours ago.”
“Yeah, sorry.” D looked at me sheepishly. “I’m not sure why it doesn’t work.”
“Eh, no worries, Where’s little sis?” I asked looking around.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, she decided to stay in Madrid, sorry.” (See, a bit flakey.)
“No worries.” Then I burst out laughing, realizing that a trip that was once going to be six people, three girls and three boys had become me and my pack of men.
“I seem to have become queen of the lost boys. I feel like Wendy. Whee!” This was going to be sooo much fun!
The boys were pretty burnt at that point, and really looking forward to the apartment, so we set off towards Leidsplein on foot. The boys agreed it was lovely but the walk was beginning to feel long, so we stopped briefly and I passed around some of the Heaven Haze.

Basjoe’s Heaven Haze
The haze smelled like haze perfume with notes of lemon and thyme. The high was sunny, expansive, lightly energetic and very visually clearing. It seemed to perk the boys right up and we were at Koningsplein in no time. Seizing the opportunity to hit the Albert Heijn on the way by, I asked the boys to stand outside while I ran inside and stocked up on food for dinner, breakfast, and snacking. The boys carried the bags and we were bopping up the steps into the apartment in mere minutes.
I threw open the windows to the evening sunshine, and we all flopped onto the couches. We all pulled out our weed, and the boys admired the S-5 Haze as being absolutely ridiculous looking. “We’ll smoke that for breakfast tomorrow.” I promised, “it’s insane.”
JD pulled out a huge joint that he had rolled earlier and sparked it up. I hit it, it was a bit harsh and tasted fruity and a bit like berries on the exhale. “What is that?” I asked.
“Uh, some stuff from someplace. I think with the snake on the sign,” says JD.
“No, it was from that place with the yellow sign,” adds DrD.
“The upside down sign?”
“No, Man, the one with the writing.”
Ah, lost boys.
I will save them, I thought to myself with a smile, and began to pack some of that beautiful Buddha Cheese.

The minutes flew by as we caught up, smoked around, and laughed a lot. JD and DrD both seemed to like the Buddha Cheese, so I passed most of the bag over to JD for him to roll for us while I took some pictures .
I told them about my misadventure in Mellow Yellow, and after they finished laughing their pants off at me, Joe gave me my first joint-rolling theory lesson. (I was way too high to practice.) I got a text from DrJ that his flight was on time, which put his eta only a few short hours off! Fortunately I realized that I hadn’t eaten since breakfast before we tore into the huge (1.5g) joint of cheese that JD had just rolled.

I tore myself away from admiring that beautiful bad boy long enough to cut up a bunch of apples and cheese (mmm Old Amsterdam) and grab a bag of kettle chips and a pack of stroepwaffles. I also got everyone glasses of water, or more accurately, I got us a large mug, small vase, and a plastic cup full of water, respectively and plopped everything on the coffee table. I realized, for the first time, that I forgot to buy any napkins or paper towels.
I sat back down and we lit into JD’s beautifully rolled joint. It hit beautifully and burned clean and even. I could feel my joint karma beginning to turn. Here was a capable teacher! I hadn’t even been close at Mellow Yellow, it’s no wonder that went poorly. It’s a good thing I am not afraid of fire.
Also, I have to add that smoking James' Big Buddha Cheese out of a joint really showed it off to its full advantage. As the bud got toasty, it brought out more of the cheese flavors, and the smoke remained unbelievable sweet and flavorful top to bottom.

A few minutes later, DrD got up and set his water down on the table and stood up. JD noticed and the water and asked DrD to please get him a glass.
“Oh- I already got you one. It’s there on the table.” I pointed, and JD noticed the food for the first time. A huge, relaxed grin spread over his face. “It’s nice to have a wife.” I said to him with a smile, thrilled that he was so happy.
“If the wife’s you, maybe.” mumbled DrD. (High praise indeed.)
We snacked and finished the joint and before I knew it, DrJ texted me that he was on the ground at the airport.

I left the boys to shower and nap off their earlier bender, and set off to pick up the mr. I decided to go on foot, as I couldn’t resist another walk through the city, deciding to follow the tram tracks through the center of the city in case I got tired or started running behind. I slipped the pipe, the heaven haze, and a little nug of cheese into my bag. Feeling like a nice wife for remembering to save a bit of the cheese for DrJ, I ducked quickly back out onto the sunny streets.

It made me so happy to see DrJ standing there looking all tall and fine at Central station. Even after ten years together, I still miss him every minute we aren’t together. It’s a bit silly, but he really is the other half of my brain, and even though I manage to have a ton of fun on my own, everything is better when he's around.
We stepped over by the bikes outside the station for a minute while I passed him a bowl of the heaven haze. “What are you in the mood for?” I queried. His eyes flashed and he exhaled a big cloud of smoke with a chuckle and reached for me. “Down boy,” I said to him, laughing, but letting him catch me up for a moment.

Basjoe’s Heaven Haze
He passed me the bowl and I was again struck by just how delicious the Heaven Haze was, and the high was lovely as well. Soaring, warm, and distinctively hazy without being too racy. DrJ kicked the bowl and I put it away before anyone had even walked by.
We decided that there was no rush to get back to the apartment, so we would stroll back via Amnesia and stop in for a brief smoke and drink. We were there before we knew it (damn that’s some good haze). The budtender was restocking when we got there so we just quietly perused the menu, chatting about what we were in the mood for. After a minute, he looked up, a little harried, and apologized, “I just got cleaned out, I’m sorry, it’ll be a minute.”

They always have great customer service at Amnesia, and I appreciated the apology, but it was utterly unnecessary, which I reassured him, “Don’t worry about us. We’re chill like cucumbers.” It was actually nice to have some extra time to look over the menu to my hearts' content. When he finished restocking and straightening up, he returned his attention to us. I told him we were interested in Indicas, as it was getting late in the day and I had several good hazes already. He immediately recommended the Vanilla Kush, the Red Cherry Berry, and The Nightshade, all of which looked great.
“I’ll take a gram of the Vanilla Kush for sure,” I said, and he started to put a nice bud on the scale. “Actually,” I interrupted him, as I had spied a particularly lovely nug, “I’ll have that one, if that’s ok.” I asked, pointing to it.

Amnesia’s Vanilla Kush
“That’s a lot bigger than a gram.” He cautioned. (Which was also nice of him.)
“I know,” I smiled, “But it’s just so lovely, and this is vacation.” It weighed in at about 2.5 grams, and the tender was nice enough to recommend rounding it up to three grams, as it was more weed for the same price. After chatting briefly, I also settled on a gram of the red cherry berry as it looked really lovely, and sounded so nice with the vanilla kush. I left him a nice tip, ordered a juice for me and a shake for DrJ and we went to sit outside in order to catch the last few rays of evening sunlight.

Amnesia’s Red Cherry Berry
DrJ started telling me about that days meetings, which had been full of fun and exciting developments, while I pulled out the small nug of the Vanilla Kush. A wave of sweet funkiness wafted up to my nostrils. I could definitely smell that dusky dank kush aroma as well as hints of bourbon and vanilla. It’s a really intriguing combination, all beauty and the beast-ish.
The stanky kush flavor filled my mouth on the inhale, and the smoke instantly began to expand in my lungs. The warm stone began to pool in my ears and toes as I was forced to exhale with an audible “whoosh.” I started laughing through my coughing fit as a warm heavy happiness suffused my body. “Be careful,” I said, passing DrJ the bowl. “It makes your lungs go _kush_. But at least your coughs will *gasp* *hack* taste like vanilla.”
The second hit of the weed brought a on a strong sweet heavy stone, and instantly wiped out the little backache I had given myself with the luggage. This one seems like it would be a phenomenal painkiller. We sat, smiling quietly and finished our drinks. Before we left we smoked another big tasty bowl and the sweet Kush made for a wonderful walk home.

As the Mr and I strolled back towards the apartment, I caught him up on my day so far. I told him the story of JD and the water, adding at the end, “So, I really think that they are going to like sharing the wife.”
DrJ stopped dead in his tracks, burst out laughing, and exclaimed, “Good god, Amy, that’s not what you said to them is it?” I was slow from the Vanilla Kush so it took me a minute to replay what I had just said in my head.
“Oh no! Of course not. At least I hope not…” I blushed and started laughing so hard that tears started to leak out the corners of my eyes.

Bushdoctor’s Purple Kush (left), and Amnesia’s Vanilla Kush
DrJ pulled me into a tight hug and growled through his laughter, “Do NOT say that to them. Remember, it’s not nice to tease. Seriously, woman.” He released me with a light spanking, which was probably deserved. It’s a good thing I have my mr to keep me in line. It’s not nice to tease, he’s right. (Peter Pan would have been a different story all together if Wendy had been a little slut.)
We passed by the AH again, and I ran in for plastic ware and plates, as well as a few other things I had forgotten earlier. I forgot napkins and paper towels for the second time, despite spending at least ten stoned minutes in front of the paper goods.

The boys were sleeping when we got back to the apartment, so DrJ and I shared the rest of the cheese. He loved it as well, and it was a nice pick-me-up after the heavier kush. The boys were soon awakened by our cheesy giggles and we all shared some of the Vanilla Kush and good times. Soon we were all raring to go, so we decided fun over food for now.
We were originally heading towards Basjoe’s, so that James could meet the boys,. When we passed by a closed Barney’s Lounge, I realized it was seriously late. Like the crack of 1 am. Where had the time gone? Ah, Amsterdam. It was a bit of a bummer that it was too late to get to Basjoe’s before closing. I briefly suggested NES, but no one was much in the mood for drinks, so we ended up ducking into Bushdoctor, because it was right there, and open.
Bushdoctor is right on Rembrantsplein, and is to me the epitome of a tourist shop. Decorated in run-down global rasta hippie style, there is a lot of mural work, varying in quality and cohesion. It has several floors of indoor seating and a large outdoor seating area right on the square. The budtender was in a surly mood when we came in, and the boys hit the counter first. They got a bag of white widow, pre-bagged and torn off a big ring.

Bushdoctor’s White Widow
I got up to the counter to see the menu, thinking that I’d just get a gram of something to try. My eyes scanned the list of prices, which started at 15E and went up from there. Only two gram bags. Shit. I looked for the boys to suggest we just head out, but they had already disappeared. Double shit. “Is there anything you would recommend?” I asked, hopefully. He just grunted at me impatiently. “How’s the Purple Kush?” I tried smiling cutely, as that usually helps. He managed, somehow, to give me an even more impatient look with his next grunt.
I once again wished we could leave, which I definitely would have done if I had been on my own, while I debated spending 15E on something I knew I wouldn’t much care for, vs spending 22E on the Purple Kush, which I had never tried before and was at least curious about. I got the sense very clearly that Mr. Grunty Pants across the counter would hassle me if I didn’t buy anything. It was just that kind of evening for him. After a brief consultation with DrJ, where he reminded me that it was vacation, I went for the Purple Kush and we went to find the boys.

Bushdoctor’s Purple Kush
After a few trips up and down the stairs, we found the super secret hidden stairs to the third level. (That were in plain view but on the other side of the room on the second floor, and therefore completely invisible to us stoners.) JD was almost done rolling a fat joint of the white widow, which I was excited to see because my buzz was definitely fading a bit. DrD introduced us to Torrance/Dorrance/Terrance, an expat from Australia who works in the UK.
We all did the expat thing while we smoked the white widow. It didn’t have the most distinctive flavor, but had a bit of the mildly numb sweetness that is characteristic of white widow. I was pleasantly surprised that the weed hit smooth and pleasant. No trace of chemicals or nastiness. My buzz began to immediately soften as the white widow set in. A nice stone, that reminded me of putting Vaseline on the lens, or turning down the lights on a dimmer switch. Things got a little softer and slower. Nice for night-time. Nice for me, because as you can tell, I tend to run a little hot.
“So this is how the tourists end up so fucked up that they pass out on the sidewalks.” Was DrJ’s comment about the white widow. “They think they are getting the easy stuff from an obvious tourist trap. Huh.” I agreed that this would slam a novice as I pulled out the Purple Kush, taking a moment to admire the dense, chunky bud structure and visibly ambered crystals. It smelled a bit like funky kush with herbal notes, reminiscent of lavender. Not the strongest or most distinctive smell, but strong enough that you would have been able to identify it as a kush even with just a passing sniff. I packed a huge bowl to pass around, and lit it up.

Bushdoctor’s Purple Kush
“I’m surprised by how good this is.” Is the first thing I told DrJ on the exhale. The weed tasted hebal and kushy and the heavier stone set in immediately. He cautioned that it could just be because it was late and we’d had a ton to smoke, but after hitting it he had to agree that it was nice. I was actually glad to have two grams of it, because I was curious how it would hit when I hadn’t been marathon smoking for ten hours.
The boys chatted and I studied the murals on the walls. One of the images is a drawing of an orgy scene from an old Chinese pillow-book. That piqued my interest, and I studied it at length. In the orgy were fifteen women and one man, which struck me as terribly wrong. I wanted to give those poor ladies some cocks, or at least some dildos, but alas I had no scissors or tape.

On the walk home, I asked the boys if they had noticed the Orgy, which none of them had. (Good boys, dirty geek.) I pointed out that the artist must have been a man, because I’ve never met a woman who would take 15 woman and 1 man as a fantasy configuration. I knew women who would pick 15 men and 1 woman, roughly equal, and all women. They all agreed that 15 women and 1 man was just about perfect, unless they could have sixteen women instead.
We arrived home to raving munchies, easily salved by the excelled Doner from downstairs. “Doner, means fat witches turd in Turkish.” DrD informed us. I’m still debating whether or not I believe him. On one had, he does speak Turkish and has lived in Istanbul. On the other hand, he is a bad boy, and I am a gullible monkey.

I’ll leave it for you to decide.

Oh yeah, geeky! We're going to try out mixing the food with strains like connoisseurs, substituting the wine for something better.

It's hardly your fault you aren't making much progress through the thread. I was looking at this, and I've been more than a tad bit wordy. Apologies everyone, I'm in the middle of a book project, so my writing is clearly out of control.
