People have gathered around the Imagine memorial to John Lennon in New York's Central Park.
Singing songs to celebrate the former Beatle, who would have turned 70 this weekend, the gathering around the Imagine mosaic in the Strawberry Fields area of the park, honoured Lennon, who was shot and killed in 1980 outside his New York apartment.
Strawberry Fields in Central Park is named after the Beatles’ song "Strawberry Fields Forever" with a plaque there listing more than 120 countries that have endorsed the small section as a Garden of Peace.
To mark Lennon’s 70th birthday, all of his solo albums are being re-released, along with a new film called Nowhere Boy, which chronicles Lennon’s early years.
This weekend, Internet search engine Google honoured the musician with an animated picture on its home page, while YouTube also created a tribute page.
