Heating Engineer work in Netherlands

I'm a fully qualified plumbing and heating engineer(NVQ level3 and acs gas accredited for boilers cookers and pipework in both natural and lp gas).
I'm Just wondering if any dutch residents know if there is any work for a plumber/heating engineer in holland?
Would I need to apply for a work permit, if so is this difficult where would i find the details?
Would i encounter any trouble as an immigrant worker?
Any help gratefully received, thanks in advance.

You should probably ask this at an Expat website like http://www.expatica.com I would almost think you would need to speak Dutch for your line of work. You don't mention where you're from so can't comment on whether you'll have problems as an immigrant or if you need a work permit. When I decided to move to Amsterdam the first thing I did was a web search, have you tried that?

I'm a uk citizen and do use google but was just looking at the forum and thought wouldn't it be cool to live there and as a few members like yourself have made the move thought i'd ask. Get a bit of on the ground info as it were. As it happens I didn't even think of learning dutch so it was worth a post just for that.

Being UK resident you don't have to do much, other than register at the City Hall. I wish I could give you links for job postings but I have none for your field, that's the only reason I suggested a search. If you have the money and the time you could pop over for a visit to test the waters. Drop by some of the staffing agencies with your CV.

There are a lot of plumbers and heating professionals in Amsterdam. But I don't know how many of them are really professional.

The problem here is that buildings are old and obviously build the Dutch way. So if you are not Dutch you can have extra difficulties in understanding how things works here....and how they have been built.

That said, I suggest you to search on google.nl terms like "Monteur CV Ketel", "Warmtservice" and you get an ideas of how many companies there are around here. Put the same terms in a job search engine to look for vacatures! Of course another option is being self-employed but for that you have to build your customer circle....

Good luck. Shouldn't be that difficult to find such a job!

I would agree that if you don't have extensive experience with the strange heating systems at residences here (and on top of that don't speak Dutch) you may not have much opportunities. However, if you have experience with commercial/large-scale HVAC, especially as it relates to Green buildings, the language barrier may not be such a big deal.

Your qualifiactions will be recognised and welcomed and as a Brit there are no visa problems.

You might want to contact City & Guilds, some countries do demand a sort of top up qualification for sparks for eg and if this the case with your trade they will organise it if there is enough demand. Unions are pretty good for this sort of info (Unite covers building services trades).

If there is a labour shortage they would be happy to employ an English speaker who could wing it until you picked up the essential Dutch. There's plenty of trade sites online with cross-Europe vacancies. You could try other near by Dutch cities as well.
