De Kuil was my favourite coffeeshop initially and I usually end up popping in at some point of the day since it's pretty central. We tend to use it as a meeting place as well. I've never smoked anything from there that I didn't enjoy greatly, but our first favourite was definitely the Parvati Creme.

420 still open
I really hope they don't change the way it looks in there, I love everything about it - the bar, the huge display case thing behind it, the lighting, everything. It has such a nice ambiance that changing all that would kind of ruin the vibe (man) and it's just become another coffeeshop, which would be tragic. God, hark at me!!
I popped into the 420 (aka De Kuil) a couple times first week of Feb. Its still open, there is a bunch of scaffolding out front that makes it look like its under some kind of construction, but its not - its some kind of upper floor renovation and not related to the shop according to the budtender. But, then he did not know what would happen to the shop April 1. It seems the alcohol-cannabis separation law has been on the books for 10 years, but A-dam got a reprieve. Now time is up.
It seems no one I talked to really understood the actual impact of the law - I guess you will be able to drink and smoke in the same place, but you cannot purchase alcohol and cannabis within the same location. So, I guess bar-shops like 420 will remain more or less the same and move the bud-station to a separated area?
Its also possible the bud-tender had no idea what is going on and maybe 420 will expand to multiple floors like the Canna place nearby. I don't know, we'll find out soon enough I guess.
Anyway, 420 is a great place to hang out, quaff a brew, chat with the pretty girl behind the bar and have a smoke :-)
The gear they have is good, but the not the best around. Their pre-rolled joints are convenient if you are in a hurry to light up and they are generous in size.

I just returned 3/17 from an 8 day stay. Overall, the 420 had to be one of my most favorite places. It was only a 3 minute walk from my hotel, an extremely friendly and helpful staff, and the best music I heard all week.
Even though I don't drink, people I was with did, so this place was perfect. A great mix of locals, regulars, characters, first-timers, retirees, and everyone in between. Plus, they brew an excellent cup of coffee here.
The Volcano was a bonus, as it was usually available. The weed IMHO, was as good as most other shops I visited. No games or hassles at the weed bar either. What you pick out is what you get...I spent some time in 420 everyday and loved it. They made me feel welcome!....What's not to like about DeKuil/420???

Visited last week - very empty when I visited. Lots of people still not realising it had lost it liquor licence!
The weed was OK but the atmosphere of the place destroyed - now merely another score and go shop.
To top it the girl at the weed counter seemed a little offish, I was not the only one to notice!

I have to agree with Worsall. This used to be my favourite shop in Amsterdam by far. Unfortunately since 1st April the soul has been ripped out of this place.
Whilst the herb has always been good, it was never a Connoisseur shop like the Grey area, Tweede Kamer or Barneys / Amnesia. To me the beer was more of a draw here than the herb.

I agree, Zunk. The weed isn't like those other shops, but the music in here was GREAT and I loved boppin & singing to Zappa and many others. I'll chill in here just for the music... same with Nes, they played Balou the Bear's I Wanna Be Like You from the Jungle Book... doesn't get any cooler than that lol that song always makes me smilezunkii wrote:Whilst the herb has always been good, it was never a Connoisseur shop like the Grey area, Tweede Kamer or Barneys / Amnesia.

atsmophere was relaxed,the weed fine.
only one thing i didnt like was paying 4 e for a pkt off papers,ok they was the gold slim ones but 4e seems dramatic.
can easily see how you could spend a few hours chilling here thought.
there was a couple off old timmers chilling at the back,i joined them with no grufs or seedy looks, just melted in and enjoyed my time there.
deff relaxed astmosphere.

Great Shop
Great shop was convenient to Dam Square where we stayed. Went there first and got the Super Haze. Wow watch out maybe you should not start with this strong weed when you first arrive in Amsterdam. 3-4 puffs and I was blown away. Much stronger than what I am used to smoking at home. I think the fellow's name working was Martin a very nice guy. I Highly Recommend this shop.
