Re: Utopia
Had some great evenings in Utipia this week. They've got good weed, nice bongs, friendly staff and thanks for the taster of the new icolator hash. Will be back later.

Strawberry Cough - not bad. Can somebody confirm whether or not it's OK to come in to the coffeeshop and just buy a coffee and sit down and roll a joint, or do you have to buy weed every time you visit this shop?

EDIT - I thought it best to recant my opinion and stick with the following...freaky wrote:Strawberry Cough - not bad. Support the shop by purchasing more than a drink if you intend to take up space.

Re: Utopia
Well Mr Ron I suppose that's an opinion you're entitled to but when I returned to Utopia a 2nd time, still with a pocket full of strawberry cough that I'd bought the day before, the lady behind the counter wouldn't serve me without buying weed.Uncle Ron wrote:EDIT - I thought it best to recant my opinion and stick with the following...freaky wrote:Strawberry Cough - not bad. I already had some herb that I'd bought from Utopia the day before on me, and didn't need to buy any more. Clearly I don't "support" this coffee shop enough, but after many years of visiting the dam, this sort of behaviour (ie no sitting down without buying weed EVERY time) is not the sort of behaviour I associate with "decent" coffeeshops - it's the kind of action that the lame tourist traps pull.
I did want to be sure before posting, because I could have just been stoned and misunderstanding the lady behind the counter's intentions, but it seems that Utopia is indeed pulling rank manoeuvers and I'm afraid, while places like Paradox offer up better (and cheaper) weed and 10x better vibes I shan't be visiting Utopia again.

If I were to return to a shop later in the day or the next day with gear I had purchased from said shop, and I didn't want to buy any gear just a coffee... hind sight now, foresight for tomorrowfreaky wrote:Well Mr Ron I suppose that's an opinion you're entitled to but when I returned to Utopia a 2nd time, still with a pocket full of strawberry cough that I'd bought the day before, the lady behind the counter wouldn't serve me without buying weed.Uncle Ron wrote:EDIT - I thought it best to recant my opinion and stick with the following...freaky wrote:Strawberry Cough - not bad. Speaking from experience, I've received 100% positive responses when I've done just that. Too easy...
I realize my approach may seem a bit much, but given the alternative...
If you decide to go back, I hope it will be better experience than the last...

Re: Utopia
@ Freaky- sorry to hear of your experience.
It is not our policy at all to insist on weed sales with every visit and I will be looking into this. Can you tell me when you were visiting?
cheers

Re: Utopia
On my last visit we popped into Utopia every day, and although we pretty much tried to buy the whole tub of Champagne Haze over the course of the trip
on a couple of occasions we just bought drinks and smoked what we already had with no issues at all. Indeed personally I found Utopia to be the most welcoming and relaxed place possible.
Who knows, but I'd guess there may have been some sort of misunderstanding rather than anything else?
I know Utopia will be our first stop when we hit town in just over a week, what time are you usually open on a weekend Nel? (we're on a 6am Sat morning flight from the UK, lol)

I was there about 2 weeks ago... I really hope it was a misunderstanding on my part, the place has such a good rep here and I can't fault the bud one bit...

@Nel: I blazed up some White Fire OG in your honor at the Melkweg last night.

Re: Utopia
Budtender here kindly sold me a half gram of White fire OG. Wish I had bought more but really just wanted to try some weed from California so a half gram was enough. Had such a lovely smell and taste. Makes me want to book a holiday in Cali.

Re: Utopia
This is one of the most welcoming coffee shops I've ever been to in the Dam. The Cali Sissor hash I got from there a few weeks back might have warped my opinion a little but I have never been given attitude for just buying a drink.
