Amsterdam Street Photograhy

I'm in the middle of choosing my first 'decen't camera, maybe a compact system or a DSLR.

I would like to photograph Amsterdam better than I have done over my last 14 trips.

Although I know there has been other photograph topics like this, a lot of them are of just buds ( i'm not complaining! ).

Could everyone post a few photographs they've taken of street scenes in Amsterdam, coffee shops, bars, pubs etc?

I would love to see them and have a camera chat, and find out what equipment you used.

i use a nokia ,coolpix p510,..42x HD
seems to work fine and the videos good as well

this site seems to limit bandwidth and features reports more than pictures.

I tried to upload some pictures after i took a lot of trouble to resize them. it wouldn't let me as i got a message that it had exceeded pictures or something (it was a while ago).

I chose a micro 4/3 format and I like it and it takes great pictures in my estimation. the glass is the key many times also. the better the lenses on the camera, the better the image.

I prefer a pocket sized camera . Don't want to be burdened with a lot of stuff ...Canon a1000 $60 ebay .

decent job in low light ,particularly if you can find a stable place to set it.

easy enough to use so I'm not fumbling around when a shot presents itself ...



and will take a decent enough shot of a menu !

i use a cannon g-10 most of the time just got a new nikon d3100, havent really used it much.

Here are some shots I took back in October, shot with a Canon 7D and with various lenses. I think wandering around with a Leica M9 would result in some stunning images (damn expensive, though). I also think some of the micro 4/3 cameras would be very useful. On my next visit I plan to bring an Olympus OMD and some fast prime lenses. The smaller camera is usually less attention grabbing than a big DSLR making candid shots of people much easier and less confrontational.

I might look at buying one ahead of the Nikon, it looks just like what I want to be doing.

i havent taken many photos with the nixon yet, but the photos on my flickr account are from the cannon G10

All the photos I posted were taken with an Canon EOS 7D and either a 50mm f/1.4 or 17-55 f/2.8 lens. It is a camera that I really love and is my go-to camera for wildlife or action photography. I love the lighting quick autofocus system.

However, for classic "street photography" the 7D is pretty big and intimidating when taking candid shots of people. They tend to find it quite unnerving to have a big slr + lens stuck in their face. Using a smaller camera is more discrete and seems to get people less stressed out to where one can almost be ignored. If you are concerned about image quality, I suggest you choose a camera that has a larger size sensor. For fixed lens cameras I would consider the Canon G1X (large sensor & good quality zoom lens, but relatively slow, but accurate auto focus) or The Fujifilm X100s (spectacular color and image quality, but fixed focal length lens). If you are interested in small size camera where the lenses can be changed, you might want to check some of the micro 4/3 cameras. I like the Olympus OMD or the Olympus Pen cameras.
