opening a business

we're considering relocating to the amsterdam area. any idea how difficult it is to open a small business? we own a tattoo studio in NY and want to relocate to the 'dam (and possibly open a coffee shop).
We've been trying to find information on real estate and prices but it hasn't been easy.

all i know is opening a coffeeshop is pretty much impossible, as far as i know no new licenses are NOT being given out at all anymore!

so you would be much more likely to succeed with a tattoo or other shop

Even if ya had 750,000 euro sittin about in spare change, by the time ya could get everything sorted for a coffeeshop, some version of the no smoking law would be just touching down to totally fuk ya. If you're legal to work here you're legal to open a business but if you're hoping the buisness will make you legal then it'll take awhile to get it organised. Search this site because I remember somebody (maybe fbn) posted an americans account of how he did it and it was very detailed. If you are legal then I'd say you'd have to be here to find a location, property moves fast here plus it's a minefield of shifty bastids lookin to scam people. Before doing anything though, take an interest in the politics....for the times they are a changing. Which could quite literally tear the arse out of this city...buisness wise.

that is what DC is referring to, whole section written in laymen terms about legally relocating to the Netherlands. Doable but sounds like a bit of a pain....if you want to start a business and have lots of $$$$$$ on hand to start with, that seems to be the easiest way.

getting a coffeshop....as DC said ...not really gonna happen without LOTS of money AND connections.
