The 2013 Visit to Grey Area Coffeeshop:
I arrived in Amsterdam on Saturday, 13 April and soon after meeting gapie at Utopia we left to go to the Grey Area. This was a fairly amazing experience and to be honest, it has been several years since I spent any appreciable time in the Grey Area. Let's face it, the seats are some of the most uncomfortable seats in any coffeeshop... however the amount of business this shop does is nothing short of astounding. The place was packed when we arrived and the budtender greeted us warmly as we took seats on the uncomfortable metal stools. I shot some video while we were there, being careful not to show anyone's face. Overall, a great experience.
Finding the Grey Area:
The Grey Area is tucked away just inside Oude Leliestraat off the Torensluis bridge over the Singel canal. The Torensluis was built in 1648, it is an arched and exceptionally wide bridge. It is the oldest remaining bridge in Amsterdam, and also the widest bridge in Amsterdam.
The landmark you want to look for is the bust of Dutch writer Multatuli. The bridge, also known as Brug 9, crosses the Singel near Dam square, at Oude Leliestraat and will lead you right to the Grey Area.
The original music is performed by Kevin MacLeod and it is provided royalty free from http://www.incompetech.com/

Re: Grey Area
Great video. I have only great memories of that place. It's usually my first coffeeshop stop in Amsterdam. It's the only cs where I always get 5 grams at a time and there's always something special here - gorgeous buds with some soaring highs over the years. The line is well-deserved. Great budtenders who will take as much time with you as you need before making your order. A buy and fly place, for sure, but it can be fun to hang out a little while if a seat opens up. The ensuing walk through the neighborhood, western canals, and the Jordaan, high as balls, is one of the best Amsterdam expeiences.

Re: Grey Area
I've always really enjoyed the golden soles hash at grey area, it's cheap enough as well.
as far as weed goes I just stick to the stuff that's been on the menu for donkey's years. yellow cab, greyberry, grey haze, that sort of thing. it's by no means the best weed in town but it's competitively priced and tastes good.
like lots of Amsterdam's coffeeshops the grey area is as much about it's history,(for want of a better word), and it's place in people's hearts as it is the weed they sell. some of the more pleasant and relaxed half hour periods of my time in Amsterdam have been spent at the grey area's window, all three sashes open, smoking golden soles.
the noise of the place is a great thing, all those odd American voices, talking all sorts of American nonsense. pretty euro girls packed five to a tiny table making those wanky Danish joints with the long filters. what's bad about that?
grey area is far more unchanging than many of the other big name coffeeshops and all the better for that. coffeeshops and drug tourism have been around long enough for there to be a legitimate market for a bit of nostalgia. I mean who wouldn't want pink Floyd back?

Never found the product good or unique enough to justify queueing for ages

I only went there during the cup cause it was in the cup, got a camping cup the grey crystal and evergrey/ECSD for 25 euro, had quick look at thier menu and most strains were cheaper elsewhere, may go back when cups not on to see for myself what the weeds like the rest of the year

Re: Grey Area
Stan made a 420 joint for John today. it had 5 roaches. i think thats enough description to explain its size, and there was no tobbacco in it. it got passed round basicly the whole shop, it was beautiful. also a girl who was going home gave Sebastiaan the last of her weed. I picked up some grey haze, which had a slightly lemony taste and was exactly what I was looking for, and reminded me quite a bit of liberty haze (although grey haze is thankfully a lot cheaper

Re: Grey Area
went here after buying weeds at bij and de graal
usually i dont hang around here for long , but John was behind the bar , with no1 sitting around him so it was cool
stan immediatly went in and sat while i waited in line .
i only had 20 bugs left lol , so i told john i was running low on cash after smokin all day ,
and asked him to just give me 12euros of whatevers beautiful .
He asked if i was into sweets or sours , i replied sour , and he gave me a beautiful stingy sour diesel .
it smelled like a dead rat , and was the best Sour D I've smoked in my life .
Stan began rolling a 4;20 joint and we sattled for a smoking session.
Lots of people strolled by , from ACD members , to people living in my region .
Kind of weird hearing some guy talking Limburgs in the grey area .
Everybody that stood in line and was lookin at the strains , i whispered Sour Dieseeeelllll in a spooky way ,
which lead to some people buying the sour D lol
at about 5:20 there was an even bigger joint
It was my best GA stay ever lol
