't Reggie Bar on Nieuwendijk - straight up, wasn't even a legal Coffeeshop haha. It was the first stop off the train for half a dozen Welsh lads on their first ever visit. We wandered past and popped in for a pint, only for the Barman to start pulling deals out of his bumbag! Massive red flags, be we neither knew or cared. Closed within a few months of our visit I believe.
Hahaha, that’s class welshmans_beard. I’m not surprised it didn’t last long

Echoing @welshmans_beard this is a great idea.
My first trip was in the mid 90s so I've seen many come and go.
My favourite was probably
Lucky Mothers located just to the south east of the canal ring. It was a super chill shop with a downstairs area that always made me feel like I was in a squat. Their Mothers Milk weed was a beautiful smoke back in the day.
Other natables include:
Rokerij - there were 4 of them I think but the one I frequented was the Singel shop. I loved it's ornate carvings and it was a good place to chill, play cards, smoke bud. No caps allowed! It's the CS Amsterdam Lounge thingy now.
Homegrown Fantasy - On Nuiewesijdz Voorborgwal. Cheese anyone?
Noon - Now Terps 2. Another eastern influenced shop, very hippy-ish. Loved their Blueberry deals and the Honey Hash. Used to go every trip until we got some attitude one year and never went again.
Mellow Yellow - always a favourite. Same menu as Noon iirc. They used to have a ring bound folder with all their music in, I recall the tender letting me choose once or twice - I chose Black Uhuru.
Pink Floyd - Now Coffeeshop Amsterdam. I was never a huge Floyd fan, I like the Syd Barrett era but not DSotM or the Wall or any of that stuff. This place was three floors of wall to wall Floyd, murals, all sorts - a feast for the eyes. And while I may not have been a huge Floyd fan I was a fan of their UmmaGumma hash and the vibe of the place in general. When it changed I couldn't bear to go in, until this last trip just gone.
Just off the top of my head...
@HitTheNorth, The closure of Homegrown Fantasy has always intrigued me as it got closed down due to the school distance rules and had to shut 6 months before Utopia was due to be closed down as HGF was on the same side of the street as the school. Utopia got to stay open for that extra 6 months but with 6pm opening times on weekdays. Then if I’m remembering correctly the school moved and Utopia got to stay open indefinitely and went back to its normal opening hours. And as we all know, it’s still there now, albeit as The Plug Utopia.
I always wondered whether Homegrown Fantasy ever tried to raise a case with the council, mayor, municipality. I guess not otherwise they might’ve returned? They were there since 1989 and got forced to close due to a school that moved 4 or so months later. Absolute joke really.
Thanks to Lemming for a lot of old links, the internet archive and some major searching around the internet of yester year I found photo’s of most of those shops. Have a little nostalgia trip mate
