I am one of the fans of the Abraxas coffeeshop.
The staff was polite, and very customer minded.
The place is an artwork by a tripper and i loved the details and the atmosphere.
We smoked a lot of pre-rolled on the trip an they were kind of expensive, but it was all around .
White widow with tobacco was one i tryed more than once.
The offer to use the internet was nice. I could check my Facebook and mail home.
OF THE BAD STUFF: Please sell me some food. Abraxas would score even more if I could buy me some breakfast, and a nice piece of pie with no weed in it You know what I mean. I cant wait to visit there again. Love from Denmark[/b]

I had been in here twice previously. So I knew the tea was 1.75. I asked the girl at the bar how much for a tea and she said 3.75. I assumed the price went up, but was suspicious, so later I emailed the manager who assured me it was NOT 3.75
Their weed has always been good, but this bad experience will keep me from visiting there again

Abraxas is my favorite coffeeshop in Amsterdam.

I visited the Abraxas every time I was in town and was never disappointed by anything I scored there! All budtenders that I taked to were very competent and friendly.

Sure, the menu is not so overwhelming extraordinary as in other top coffeeshops but the stuff you can get there is always worth the prize and if you´re looking for some good maroccan hash it´s definitely the place to score

It's a very beatiful and good quality coffeeshop.they have good weed at honest prices,and in particular a very good hash,crem de maroc(14euro/gram).very nice location,near dam square;both the abraxas are in very narrow streets

My wife and I found the Abraxas in the spring of 1993, and have visited the shop on every trip since then (and that's a lot of trips). We have watched it grow from a tiny little shop without much decor into the place it is today. It has expanded up and sideways into the next property. Over the years the weed has been consistently good and fairly priced. We've met some interesting folks there, too.

If there is anything that has gone downhill in these years, it is the staff behind the counters. In the long ago, there were people working there who remembered my wife and I from trip to trip. Now, the staff is different every time you go in, not day to day, but over a year or so. I think it is because the counter people, and I suppose the budtender, have to count every candy bar, orange, and cookie at the beginning and end of every shift. Who wants to work that way?

The last time I was in there, October 09, I ordered two cups of "thee, normaal." She immediately started making lattes. I tried to stop her, but she was staying on task. When I told her I didn't want or order lattes, she just about had a bird. I might well have tipped her enough to cover them had she not gotten so shirty about it, and she gave them to the budtender and another patron anyway. She made my teas and was pretty snotty about it. It really burned her when she had to give me a token for the computer access, snapping it down in front of me with a glare. On another visit that trip a different girl got crazy when she thought I took a picture of her. I do not take pictures of individuals without their permission. I was taking a photo of the decor. I showed her the picture to allay her fears, but she wouldn't shut up about it.

I have no kick with the weed. I don't pay too much attention beyond looking for the most expensive and something different. Abraxas is fine. I've never felt I was getting short weight or quality.

If I can find them, and if I can figure out how to get them on-line, I'll send some pictures of the pre-historic Abraxas.

Hi dude, dont take this to heart but do you see why americans get such a hard time when abroad. You say that you have been to dam many times, then surely by now you will appreciate how delicate the whole thing is and how nobody would appreciate someone waving a camera around in a coffeeshop, for christ sake some people have professions/careers that dont fit in with being pictured with a fat joint in ones hand etc, even in the background etc. This is a good example of why you U.S. fellows receive such a bad reception in Dam (and beyond), just because you think you have a god-given right to take a photo doesnt mean its ok to do so, its a fast way to get a boot up the arse. Its called cultural arrogance
Quite agree about the moody people serving tea and buds there though, last two trips they were right miseries.

They get right to the heart of the matter with their trenchant analyses based on what they find when they've got their head up their "non-culturally arrogant" asses. I said very clearly I was taking a picture of the decor. There were no people in the frame at all. I said specifically I don't take pictures of anyone without their permission when I'm in the shops. Did you even read the post before replying?

The Bluebird has a "no pictures" policy so I have no pictures of that shop except for some taken 15 years ago with special permission. The owners of Abraxas have never expressed a "no photos" policy, probably because they are proud of the artistry and craftsmanship demonstrated in their decor. I have many pictures of Abraxas and its counter staff and budtenders. All were taken by permission.

I try in all situations, at home and abroad, to be polite. I carefully use please, and thank you, good day and good night, sir or ma'am, in the local language. I queue politely with everyone else. I try to "do as the Romans when in Rome." I try to change by good example the bad reputation of my countrymen.

I base my good opinion of the British based on my three vacations to the UK and a goodly number of hours spent socializing with them in the shops. I do not base my opinion on the 20 year old idiot who threw a perfectly good pint on me as I passed the pub on the way to my hotel in London. Nor do I base it on the drunken football fans who kept me up quite late with drunken carousing in a sports pub on the Wijzelstraat. The police had to come and arrest a bunch of them for harassing passers-by.

Meet me, and my wife, in the shops. Share a joint and a cup of tea. If you still think I'm an ass-hole, I'll just have to live with it. But please don't presume to judge me on the basis of preconception and prejudice.

Peace and love is for all, even Americans.

Whoooops, touche, you dont suck and neither do your countrymen, and actually I completely agree with you also about brits abroad and brits drinking, I hate them en masse and can only say for every tale you might have about pissed brits that are horrible to have around I probably have two. I also apologise if I worded my thoughts harshly, and I certainly dont think you are an arsehole at all, I hadnt read any of your other posts but have now and you seem like genuinely nice people. I think you hit a raw nerve when you told of your photo aggro, as I have had a very similar experience in a coffeeshop a few years ago with an American guy, and I was travelling with some good friends, two of whom were put in a very uneccesary position by someone who like yourself was adamant that they should take a photo despite us asking very politely to put the camera away and it was dreadful and eventually the guy got thrown out and it ruined the supposedly chilled smoking session - one of my friends was a legal aid lawyer and the other a civil servant, neither of whom particularly wanted their employer to see their face in the background on someones facebook/blog. Sorry i know it wasnt you obviously, but as I said, in my humble opinion it is not ok in these coffeeshops to wave a camera around at all from a stoners point of view, bugger what the coffeeshop allows, it would annoy me and it clearly annoyed that lady, no matter how gentle or discreet you may think you are being. Having said that I shouldnt have widened it into a U.S. bash or worded it like that, forgive me I was having a grumpy moment and I went too far Im probably just jealous about your medicinal dope vending and like most brits cant express my emotions

i thought it was a case of yes,take pics of the scenery but what goes on in amsterdam ,stays in amsterdam.......and unless you from holland we all have 1 nationality....foreigner!!!in amsterdam... all with common aims,enjoy the city and sample its delights whether it be cultural,herbal,alcohol......or business...........share a table with strangers from all over the globe and have a toke n talk,you'll find people are people...some from the U.S. side are very funny ...Roy,BigrigRob....although.some are crazy and others are truly inspiring hahaha...the whole thing is just remember it isn't our backyard we're playing in so play nice
