Border cannabis cafes to close

All the coffee shops in the border towns of Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom must close by September 16 2009, the towns' respective mayors confirmed on Thursday.

The mayors said last year that by closing the coffee shops, a euphemism for cafes selling marijuhana, they hoped to bring to an end the nuisance caused by the 25,000 drug tourists a week.

Lawyer Harrie Nieland who represents the coffee shops told the paper there was little he could do until they are actually closed down. 'But if you want to change drug policy, you first need to discuss it nationally and also check EU law if you want to discourage European tourists,' he told the Telegraaf.

and then watch the tourist trade,hotels,bars etc close down because the "drug"tourist aren't coming!!!!!!sounds like financial suicide for those areas

Think about it!
Who was Holland before she relaxed her views on cannabis. She was a nobody, then she donned the sexy garments of Mary Jane and became quite appealing to us dwellers of other countries... We've spent countless millions in all currencies in their small lil country the size of my back garden, and go back relentlessly, for the love of herbs...

Holland know this! - Its one thing givin us hope for worldwide awareness of Cannabis and its benefits, then quite another when you throw our hopes and aspirations away for worldwide legalization by changing your attitude... it's hypocritical, and almost atypical of western governments.

Cant wait for 420 - I'm gonna blaze out the whole of DAM!

By the looks of the ACD Directory there has been an ongoing issue with the CS's in these towns. Most have already been shut down. These are small towns not the RLD. The Dutch are a very tolerent but who wants the raise the kiddies in the RLD. We need to all remember that we are guests in this wonderful society they have created. Have a good time but also have respect for your hosts and considerations for your surroundings. We don't want to ruin a good thing.

Now I'll get off my soap box and have a smoke!

this position is exclusive to switzerland

the netherlands just are a big gate to the EU, so it would still be important without the weed, but there would be less tourism...no idea how many, but a lot

i meant in the past Shady.

I wasnt aware of that about Switlerland. I just thought they hated cars, ate chocolate and travel on trains which are never late.

I didnt know the netherlands did so in the past, but as far as I am concerned many countries have big amounts of money at the banks of the Netherlands....maybe I am wrong here.

I didnt know the netherlands did so in the past, but as far as I am concerned many countries have big amounts of money at the banks of the Netherlands....maybe I am wrong here.

no, this is only a country for people to "wash" the money (is this phrase right in english? because thats what we say in german)

yes ur right, we would usually say "launder" there money, just another word for wash!
