BasJoe's was the 3rd coffee shop we visited on 17th November 2011, and knew straight away had found my place!?!? Absolutely fab ambiance, friendly budtenders who can give a good recommendation and they can make tea! (hey I'm British - Cup of Tea and a Spliff and I can put the world to rights).
Music was good and not too loud - enabling good conversations to be had.

Will definitely visit again when over between 13 - 20/02/2012.
Only downside (if you can call it that) was no Backgammon board - they only had chess. Oh well - not such a big loss - just have another spliff!!

There was one there doing the Cup, I saw it used several times.

Went to Basjoe on Saturday (New Years Eve). Firstly when I passed at about 11am they were all shuttered up so I guess they don't open until midday.

Later in the evening (about 11.15/11.30 pm) I passed there on the way to Nieuwmarkt with some friends and popped in as there was no queue, though the shop was busy. The man with the (longest in the world!) dreadlocks was rapping to some music being played by a DJ behind the counter. And there was a young man (looked much younger than 18) serving.

I asked what they had which was especially nice right now and he just stared right through me and shrugged his shoulders. I asked again and got the same (very rude) response. He pointed at the menu at one he had and let me smell it. It didn't smell great so I just got 0.5g to tide me over.

He bagged it up and handed it over. But I've never experienced such a rude, unpleasant and totally disinterested attitude from anyone anywhere in Holland, or even the UK come to that. I should have just walked out and told him to stuff it, but that's not really my style.

I was just starting to warm to Basjoe but this kids attitude completely stunk and has put me right off. Spent my money in Grey Area instead - always friendly and always great weed.

IM sorry you had that experience. I am assuming it was james' kid. he works there. I remember when I was there once, I ask the kid for a bubbly water and the kid had this attitude. I already knew james so I didnt give it much thought. He first told me 350 euro. I was like "how much??" and by this time james came walking down from the back room and the kid changed his tune and gave me a lower price. After that no more attidtude from him. And I try and buy my weed from james not the son.

I did wonder if it was the owner's son. And to be fair it was close to midnight and things were very manic outside so maybe they'd had a bit much by then.

Thanks peeps - I'll give it a go when I'm back in March.

Definately try again. If its the kid again ask if james is around. If james is there tell him your a part of ACD group. You will get treated extra special. It its just the kid tell him you just wanted to say hi to james and leave, unless he doesnt give you attitude then stay :)

i went in a while back and he seemed all right, spoke about and sold me some weed made me some coffee and then left me to it, sadly tho he seems to be tainting the reputation abit, i understand why but sometimes you gotta grit ya teeth and smile away like you say that comes with age & experience
