I third that, and will add, that I've gotten to know him and he's really a nice kid.

And, when I imagine being a dealer, I can imagine times that it would get really tiresome.

Not to say that bad service isn't bad service. Nor that you don't have a right to demand better for your cheddar. I do think though, that if you let this experience put you off of Basjoe's, you will have missed out. It is one of my favorite places in the universe.

I won't let it put me off and will go again when I'm back in March. But if the boy is there then I'll just ask for his father or leave!

And I also agree that kids grow out of attitude, but it's not good service to have them projecting it to your customers. I'd been in Basjoe before so knew they were fine, but anybody who hadn't may not want to go back.

I went in a couple of days later to pick up a second gram of cream special, and once again he was silent. But this time he was giving me a knowing look and an approving nod. We had connected in his silence. All in all I like the lad and I like Basjoe
People keep calling him James son, isn't he his nephew?

I was always told he was james son but he could be a son of the brother that died. anybody know?

I have never seen the appeal of this place, both times I've been in the green was just ok...I'm sure it's a cool place to chill but the main thing that attracts me is the smoke.

Here we go again, people rushing to defend Basjoes...No other coffeeshop gets this kind of "protection". If people post bad experiences about other coffeeshops, people take it at face value.

Say anything bad about Basjoes though, and people have all these reasons why it's ok and make excuses for the bud being just average, or that his kid is a prick, or that the shop is bland and grungy, or that James will ignore people who are standing RIGHTINFRONTOFHIM if he isn't in a "good" mood...etc etc etc...

I for one don't like the place. The bud was nothing special (actually dried out and harsh in my experience), James was short with me and ignored me, even though I was standing right in front of him, the shop is bland and not interesting, and did I mention that there is better smoke in lots of other shops?

But whatever...you guys love the place, so be it...


Oh, and I work in service industry as well...and there is no excuse for treating customers like crap. Doesn't matter if you've had a bad day, or it's busy, or it's near closing time...You treat people with respect. Just because they sell weed and we're all looking to get high doesn't make it OK for them to be pricks to customers at any time...

I met the kid when I was there in 2011. A bit of background. When I travel I use one of those money belts that fits under your clothes(this oneis similar to the one I have) and therefore it takes me a minute to pay for something and in many cases I might accidentally show my less than Situation-like torso. I bought my weed(some Bas Special, pretty good) and apologized if I showed my belly. He was polite enough to say it was ok and pointed out that it was actually really smart to use a money belt.

Totally sucks that you, or anyone for that matter, have had bad experiences at Basjoe.
I consider myself a regular and I suppose have been lucky(?) that I've never been disrespected, as I have in other shops. I will state that I have witnessed on rare occasions an attitude of indifference towards a customer, which I for one will not defend but I won't chastise either. It is what it is, we are human and are not infallible. No excuses, only an attempt at understanding through rational thinking and explanation, with a bit of Occam's razor.

As for their gear, maybe not the best in town, but not likely to be anywhere near the worst either. Who has the best in town? Who has the worst? Of these, have they ever had less than stellar gear or better than expected?

I agree with your opinion (paraphrased slightly) that in the service industry there isn't any excuse for treating customers other than in the highest regard. However, here is the rub - if I were working in the service industry and a customer decided to show me their ass (bad attitude), they most definitely will receive the same in return. My actions may have consequences, so be it. The customer is not always right and is as much responsible for their actions as the service provider is for theirs, maybe even more so. For every action there is an equally opposite reaction. Hmm, there might be something to this...
The same holds true if I were the customer - show me your ass and I'll show you mine, with a little added insult to injury for being an ass in the first place. Sounds good in practice, never good in execution...

Lot of politics going on here. Sounds to me just like a young man who likes to keep himself to himself. This quote from Bill Hicks pops to mind;
