I have been involved with a $1 M (US) Ice Rink outside Chicago. What happened was that a limited partnership was formed. There were 10 partners who were the limited partner and a professional manager who was the general partner and ran the operations. It worked out well and the last I heard they had bought another Ice Rink.

The property alone on a major downtown thoroughfare might be worth close to half a million. That's for someone else with more time to research. Hey, they had a full house in the hotel the two days I was there. I bitched and moaned about my stay there last November, and justifiably so. Many of my complaints were symptomatic of a disinterested management, and fairly easily remedied. I can't deny that the place has potential - say in Lemming's or Boner's hands.

Is it really that cheap?
Heck, give me a couple of weeks and I might be able to scrounge a downpayment. But only if this is serious. We would need to create a LLP or some such corporate entity. A lot of paperwork. I don't know if stoner's can move quick enough and I don't know Dutch law that well. In Cali you can open a smokers only lounge and get around the public smoking ban. Although they are more pissed off about cigarettes than herb. I saw Ben Harper play in Santa Cruz and my friend almost got kicked out for lighting up a cigarette. Mind you I'm smoking a joint and so are about a dozen other cats standing nearby and they pounce on my friend for the tobacco smoke, and said "Hey, don't you know second hand smoke can kill" . The absurdity still makes me laugh my ass off.

I'm serious about getting some investors. I have enough for a 5% down payment right now, but like I said, I don't know Dutch law regarding foriegn ownership or transfering the coffeeshop license. The coffeeshop license is the dealbreaker. no coffeeshop license no sale. Looks like I'll be surfing dutch legal sites tonight. Oh Yipee!

I might be interested in helping out. Unfortunately, I don't think any of us (in the U.S.) would be able to use it as grounds to stay in the NL. Only because on the IND.nl website, it states that an immigrant from the U.S. looking to open/operate a business, must be opening a NEW BUSINESS. If they just handed over ownership of an existing business to you, I'm not sure that applies. Still, it would be cool to be part owner of a coffeeshop. I'm interested to hear what you found out Pharcyde.

I'm not sure...maybe someone else who's more familiar with Dutch business law could answer this...I'd be interested to hear the answer as well.

well i stayed at the hotel utopia 2 weeks ago and we disscussed the problem.It is really hard selling a coffeshop.You need 6 different licences.You must have a clean record.And he said CLEAN.Nothing nada...I would do it with my brother but now i have a family and we cant move to amsterdam just because i want to run a coffeshop

Has any other information came around lately? This sounds like a deal I may want to get invovled with.
