A despicable act committed by a disturbed individual.
In spite of yet another tragic shooting, life won't change very much in the states, because the gun lobby in America is strong. In rural areas, living with firearms is a way of life. Eerily parallels some inner-city situations. Just as a shotgun blast in the country is normal, so are pistol shots in da hood.
With the U.S. slowly sliding toward third-world reality, with the economic woes people have, and law enforcement budgets eroding, crime is more prevalent everywhere and people need to be able to protect themselves, because LE won't always be there for you. There are areas that I don't feel good about passing through, unless I'm going 'heavy'.
This is The New America. This is the price we pay for the freedoms we have. I can take my pistols out to the country or to an indoor shooting range and blast away if I so choose. A new range just opened up a few minutes away from me. People in most other countries don't have this option. They must be far more civilized. Such savages we are.
Psychos really need to get more creative. An automobile, tank, or other large piece of machinery can be effectively wielded to cause loads of damage as well, and often are. Chronic drunks plow through crowds of innocent people taking multiple lives and causing life-changing injuries...but that's apparently OK, and more acceptable, because this is allowed to repeat and continue. Just happened in my area over the summer. Despicable, yet it continues because who knows how many lawmakers and people in control are closet alcoholics and drive impaired themselves. Protecting their own, just like cops. The outrage only sets in once a lawmaker's family is affected. THEN, it's a big deal and something needs to be done right now to change this horrible law.
Pothead is right. Control the rounds and end the violence. Guns without bullets are just threatening paper weights.
Gun control means using both hands and hitting what you're aiming at.

Wow. Did you just say its harder to buy a gun on the black market than it is to shoot people? So what would someone who gets a gun on the black market "save it for" target practice at the local range? Oh wait, no only government is allowed guns, so only government allowed at the shooting range... Hmmm maybe he will just use it as a beer opener. Yup that sounds about right.
Baaaaaaaaah
Wow. Did you spectacularly misunderstand what I said. Deliberately? Or just being a bit dumb?
Let me explain again:
redeyezman wrote: Did you just say its harder to buy a gun on the black market than it is to shoot people?
Er no

.. What I meant was, it is is incredibly hard to obtain a gun in the UK on the black market. You have to know the right people AND those people have to be willing to sell you a gun in the first place. Those people wouldn't just sell a gun to a random, slightly odd, boarderline-asperger's, goth-teenager from small-town USA (the usual profile of the high school shooters) because those teenagers don't come into contact with the types of people who sell guns on the black market. Also, those gun-sellers tend to be rather careful in who they sell to due to the severe repercussions they would face if the gun is traced back to them. So logic would lead us to believe that if a damaged individual, such as Adam Lanza, snapped and decides to go on a gun-toting killing spree, they will find it a hell of a lot harder to get a gun to go on said killing spree if they have to go through the black market as opposed to opening his Mom's cupboard and pulling out 2 semi-automatic handguns and a fucking rifle!
Does that make sense? because it seems pretty clear cut to me.
As I said before:
Lanza + gun* = 20 dead kids.
Lanza on his own = 1 dead or injured mother.
So
Make it a LOT harder for Lanza to obtain a gun= Less chance of dead kids.
redeyezman wrote:

The majority of firearm related incidents in the UK are gang-related. So actually they tend to 'save it' for gang-related violence. You're common-a-garden 'gone-postal psycho' cant get a gun in the UK so hasn't really got anything to use 'down the local range'. Admittedly we are not immune from the atrocities seen in Connecticut, Dumblane in 1996 and Derek Bird in 2010 being the last two on this scale, but the huge difference in the regularity of such events happening is clearly down to something (I WONDER WHAT THAT COULD BE??? HMMM)
redeyezman wrote:Oh wait, no only government is allowed guns, so only government allowed at the shooting range...
I'll ignore this because I literally don't know what you're wittering on about.
redeyezman wrote:Baaaaaaaaah
Appropriate sign-off there chief because you sound like a deluded-sheep who will follow the rest of the "It's my right to own a gun.. fuck the implications it has on society" sheep.
Also to clarify some other points:

Sorry man, trying to figure out how what you said has ANY bearing on this argument. I mean, talk about a moot-point! lol
Dubious US foreign policy has the square-root of fuck-all to do with internal firearm polices.

I know, which is why I asked this question:
weoftenscore6 wrote:Authorities recovered two 9mm handguns from the scene: one a Glock, and the other a SIG Sauer. A .223-caliber Bushmaster Firearms International rifle was found in the back of a car in the parking lot. The guns were owned by and legally registered to the gunman's mother.
The kindergarten classroom where the shooter's mother, Nancy Lanza, age 54, worked as a volunteer teacher's assistant was the scene of the majority of the deaths.
Why the fuck does a 54 year old teaching assistant in a sleepy, quiet town need to be tooled up like that? It's madness. America's gun obsession is ludicrous.

Alot of people like to point their finger at America as the worst for gun violence, but when you look at the per capita statistics we don't even rank in the top ten. I think that's pretty good considering we have more guns than any other nation. Jamaica has about five times as much gun violence per capita than the US, mostly because Kingston is a scary ass hellhole. I think there's a good chance that the US government will reinforce the assault rifle ban that expired in 2004 as a result of this tragedy. Will it really solve anything? Probably not, the psychos will just buy and use handguns instead. Take away their handguns and they'll use hunting rifles. The problem goes alot deeper than gun control, some populations are just more hardwired for violence than others.

What Matty is saying is where is the outpouring of heartfelt sorrow for all the children killed by American drones etc (I think) , propaganda is a tool of the Government

+1
There is no outpouring because those who rely on the government (aka the worlds socialists) wouldn't dare criticize it. The socialist who posted above says US forign policy has fuck all to do with internal policies. So there are two Americas? Our foreign policies are not internal policies!?!?! LOLl! This just illustrates the fact that foreign interests now controll USA because fools think their are two seperate Americas... Because there are in fact. There is the real USA where we all live, and the forign US that controls all our assets without Very little or no consent from the people who pay the bills.
The original American experiment requires lots of hard work. It wasn't perfect, but the best humanity could conjour up based of the knowledge it had at the time. If one system has 10,000 problems but the alternatives have 100,000 problems which one is best for the "collective"?? I don't understand this desire to revert back to socialism. If there is so much new information now vs 1776 why don't the self annointed devise a system with only 1,000 problems then we would be even better off...I won't hold my breath....

Let me sum it up simply for you:
Lanza + gun* = 20 dead kids.
Lanza on his own = 1 dead or injured mother.
* Well 3 guns actually: one a Glock, and the other a SIG Sauer. A .223-caliber Bushmaster Firearms International rifle - All acquired with relative ease.
Our 'criminals' find it very hard to get access to guns like that. You have to go through some serious back channels and deal with some extremely rogue elements to even get hold of a handgun. So if you are going to go to the hassle of getting hold of a gun, you're not going to use it blowing away 20 innocent kids. A 20 year old kid with mental issues, from a small town, simply wouldn't be able to get hold of a gun.
So it's not a case of people following our gun laws. Its our effective gun laws make it dramatically harder to do something like this. It's very simple.[/quote
speculation is the death of evrything, there is no way that ypu can state that he would not have killed more the one person without a gun , and to do so is just moronic

He could go to a gun show and buy a hunting rifle with ease.

Thanks to all for keeping a civil tone...
Banning guns in the US is nearly impossible, however controlling bullets (or components) is an entirely different discussion.
Immediate ban of commercial sales of black/gun powder; ban the sale of re-loaders; ban the sale of primers. Done.... wait for it.... now come the lawsuits.
No ban on guns, own as many as you want, they'll make great paperweights not to mention mop handle broom handle, ax handle, fly swatter, baseball bat, hockey stick, etc...
So go ahead, buy all the guns you want.
My point is that there are more options that an attempt at a ban or modified ban on guns, which would probably be worse. Food for thought...

Why?...because like it or not, we're allowed to possess that kind of shit here. Legal or otherwise. Along with many, many bullets.
You'd be surprised how easy it is to go to a gun show and be able to walk out of there capable of tremendous damage. I'm not saying that you wouldn't be possibly watched or videotaped while there, especially if you're attempting a transaction. People walk around wearing signs advertising a firearm they may have for sale, and are likely carrying it in plain sight. It would likely be a personal transaction, with little or no paperwork involved. The firearm may not even work properly, and you may not have a chance to test fire it. Frightening, innit?
A friend has a Mahdi Egyptian AK-47. Not your typical household defense weapon. I try to stay on his good side.

Give a message to your friend for me - he/she is an idiot.
Good luck with that Egyptian-made AK-47. BTW, they are notorious for jamming and cooking off rounds in the chamber. Hope he has good medical coverage, living will, and a forgiving family. My credentials are 24 years in the Army and seeing a lot of shit, including a teenager whose face was unrecognizable after a -47 round cooked off in the chamber and blew apart the bolt housing group.
As I stated previously, don't ban guns, ban bullets and/or components. Eventually people will run out of their ammo stockpile, and with no gun powder to load them, NO BULLETS. Simply too easy...

Yeah...well, no one is perfect. Some people acquire things just to 'have them'.
Anyway, you're not going to get your face blown up when you're blasting away from the hip, like super-cool movie stars.

imo, today's all-too-realistic, killing-based video games are a horrible influence for delusional minds. Cheapens life and promotes unaccountability.
People ask...how can anyone justify having an assault rifle?
Two words...zombie apocalypse.

First, a right handed shooter holding it Rambo-style may not have their face ripped off, but they won't hit much either. If a left hand shooter (like me), can you say spent cartridge burns?
Next, I think only certain members of law enforcement should carry bullet launchers, tactical response teams as one example. The "beat" cop should be well trained and armed with the latest NON-LETHAL systems (pepper spray, electric shocking devices(?), bean bag projectiles, etc...).
I disagree with the price of bullets, they should be banned outright. Difficult to fire a gun without bullets.
The black market may fill the gap, but I think only temporary. Eventually the gap will widen as materials become more difficult to acquire, raising the price for bullets beyond the average Joe/Jane's reach. $5000, not high enough given that some people will pay that much and more to have someone murdered. Outright ban on bullets!
Lastly, to ensure the message has some bite, anyone caught with a loaded gun, ammo, or any other materials to make bullets will face MANDATORY LIFE in prison. Why life? There's no parsing of words - because what the convict did was dealing in death. In addition, forfeiture and liquidation of ALL ASSETS which will be used to pay for the incarceration. If the residual value is less than the estimated cost of incarceration, the convict will WORK to pay off the difference. No club fed, no time hanging out in the exercise yard, no movie nights, no library, no internet, NOTHING but hard time and a religious text (if requested). End prisons for profit as well... another topic for another thread perhaps.
Let's all go out and buy guns to protect our selves and families from guns. This makes about as much sense as paying a bully for protection, against said bully.
There has to be a compromise, HAS TO BE, or we will continue to bury and mourn the loss of loved ones. Fits more than just gun control, doesn't it?
Peace to all...
