I watch Germans coming over the border past my house evry day to get high.

In all of the shops that would give me a straight answer in Enschede, they told me their clientelle was between 60-80% German.

WTF?

Have you ever visited Overijssel? It hasnt changed in 200 bloody years mate

I doubt the majority of people in overijssel are against the weedpass and rightly so if 60-80% buying are german, It makes sense to have a weedpass.

I am certain the majority of people who live and work in amsterdam will be against the weedpass because the centre of amsterdam is based on the tourist industry and it will effect the amsterdam economy and therefore people negatively.

I just figured he was being misled by the coffeeshop's optimism. Makes sense why would a coffeeshop tell any possible customers that they should cancel their vacation. I wouldn't.
Thanks for posting that table. Very interesting but one vital category is missing.
It displays the % of people who visit AMS primarily for the weed. We can thus count them out if a weedpass is introduced. However what about the people who would visit Amsterdam if it 'cleaned up its image?' Hard to measure right?

Also let's remember that every potential tourist destination has a list of 'attractions.' If there were no attractions then there would be no tourists. AMS of course has a long list of attractions eg canals, art, museums, Churches, flower market, boats, bikes, weed, hookers, etc, etc.
All AMS is doing is attempting to remove a couple of attractions from tourists. It makes the city less or more attractive to visit based on who you are talking to. Would someone who is not into weed but would visit a coffeeshop in AMS (the vast majority) change their travelplans if they could not visit the city's coffeeshops?

Doubtful.

The problem with the weedpass of course is that it does not ban coffeeshops. They still will be there you just won't be able to use them. Would hoardes of big spending tourists suddenly decide to visit AMS because tourists can't go into coffeeshops anymore?

Of course not.

It would have no impact whatsoever. The only way people in this category would come to AMS would be if they closed down all the coffeeshops, banned weed just like in other EU countries with strict laws and of course got rid of the hookers.
Then you might see more church outing style tourists. The weedpass makes no sense from a positive tourist viewpoint at all.

ps - sorry for the long post.

That is where you miss the point, the amsterdam council and mayor have the last say and can over rule the dutch government for the juristrisction of amsterdam. and they say no to the weedpass, so the weedpass will not happen in amsterdam.

As far a Amsterdam specifically goes the situation has not changed since summer 2011 when the mayor and council came out stating the weedpass would not come in for Amsterdam. So there is no new news, which is why the coffeeshops in amsterdam are not worried

This is deeply musguided. Please, anyone reading this thread, disguard what this guy is saying.

Who are you josssy? Really, who are you?

Do you have a direct connection to the coffeeshop owners of amsterdam?

If not, you ought to stop spouting unfounded crap.

Please.

He's a guy who says that he isn't Dutch and works for an airline; yet he claims to be an expert in Dutch politics and has made a series of completely unfounded statements which amount to some of the worst rumor-mongering and actually plain lying I've ever seen. On top of this he's been sarcastic and plain nasty along the way when people have disagreed with him about anything. Who knows who the hell he / she / it really is.

I think Joosy should either agree to stop posting on this thread or else be banned from this forum - all he's doing is pissing people off, leading to a bad atmosphere.

All the Dutch authorities are trying to do is get back a grip on the weed situation, the "Tolerance" has been stretched too far.
Sadly I'm old enough to remember Holland with dope but pre-hippy. The Dutch tolerance goes back long before we turned it into Weed-World..

Blue skies and happy trails :D.
What a long strange trip it is.

See your point, perhaps a bit extreme :) But by god its like a brick wall. Its NOT because he's disagreeing with me - I've no problem with this at all, and will happy argue with anyone about anything. Its because it just looks like he's deliberately spreading misinformation, which is why the poster above suggested he was working for the coffeeshops. Having an opinion is one thing, deliberately spreading misinformation is a vastly different thing. And I'm definitely not alone in feeling this way...

Please provide the "black and white and clearer than day" evidence in the form of the written law that states this.
Until then, I, and I'm sure most of us here, believe that you are talking absolute rubbish!
Show us proof that the mayor has more power than the government.
What the fuck are you on?
It must be good!

BTW, I have always felt (and said here) that I don't believe it will happen in Amsterdam, but I'm more fearful lately than I was before.

The coffee shop owners, other business owners, and as many others as possible, need to start pulling their fingers out and start making a lot of "noise" at every available opportunity. The longer that there is no big outcry, the more chance the government have of implementing the law.

It shouldn't be just about weed either, the Dutch government are trying very hard to reduce a lot of the freedom that Holland has always been known for.

Did anyone read the statement that I linked to from the Dutch government? about what they are going to do?

Can you all stop answering Joosy as this thread was for people who had thoughts about the weedpass, not whether you think it's going to happen or not. We have heard her/his argument and believe that he/she believes in it, ok. we need not fight her for her opinion, we can just ignore, him or her as a ranting idiot, if they keep it up with no one talking to them.

Is that link from the government by the way?

Another thing, obviously you can all see that the Nederlands government is tolerating a lot less. here is another example: http://www.globalpost.com/dispatches/gl ... olland-ban

here they have banned Khat. Another natural product. They even incite racism, because they state that most addicted or troublesome are within the somali populace. If this is their heritage or home used drug, then banning it isn't being very tolerant towards the Somali's right, to use a drug they always have. this is another example of Tolerance lost.
I don't take drugs, I am Drugs.

Mayors can drop dead and political agendas change like the wind, especially when thousands of German, Belgian and French tourists drive the extra 100 miles to get their weed in Amsterdam because all other parts of the Netherlands introduced the weed pass. As for dealing in the streets?. With the amount of cctv cameras that have been installed in this city during the last 10 years...lol, goodluk with that. The dramatic reduction in class A dealers is proof the police system works and a dozen or so extra cams would nearly galvanize it. Then yer left with going to some well ropey area to 'hopefully' buy some 'sort' of 'nice' 'weed' from what is probably a complete stranger, you just met on the street. For a holiday desitination without sunshine and a beach close by, fuk that. For an effective way to procure marijuana for consumption, fuk that too. I'd go to Spain and find a dealer or ring some Dutch dude and tell him to drive across the border to me, the extra cost being well worth the reduction in hassle. The Netherlands get to 'clean up' their act while letting their own nationals continue smoking, export a shitload of expats and reduce the amount of tourists that come here primarily to get 'wasted'. The weak perish, get replaced, the strong survive and the international image of Holland goes from strength to strength....unless yer a non-dutch stoner. Put that on a scale with the 400 million in grey taxes coffeeshops provide, hmmm....if I was a non weed smoking Dutch national?. The 400 mill would lose. Non weed smoking (Often Christian) Dutch nationals, aren't they those freaky people with the majority vote?.
