I'm beyond ancient as I'll be 75 when I visit Amsterdam next year. I get carded in almost every coffeeshop I visit. I laugh and start looking at the menu!

but as we left I couyld hear Gapie sniggering as I walked past ....just got the feeling that as we werent local we were interupting there conversation and were not welcome......basically I would not treat people like that ...and I think it is piss poor.....I live in a tourist seaside town and the locals dont like the ( emits ) holiday makers ........ So I get why they wouldnt want us there ....but I had been looking forward to checking out this shop and walked out feeling dissed

I agree with you that sounds not ok but usually the staff at Utopia is very fríendly and don´t treat you like that... but we are all only humans and maybe they simply didn´t recognized what they done... I would give them a second chance because the staff is like I said before usually super friendly.
That ID checking thing is normal for a dutch coffeeshop. Coffeeshops don´t want to loose their license so they try to make everything 100% save. They don´t only check it because of the age... some shops also look if the ID card is not out of date.

If you say so yeah I am looking forward to make a "longer" trip to Amsterdam in the beginning of feb. ... it would be a lot of fun to meet again and have a smoke
I think I will also make a day trip in january but one day is not much time to have a chilled conversation and smoke without stress... so I will msg you before I go to Amsterdam (and of course not last minute ).

what do you think is the most potent truly old school import hash at the moment?

To be honest I didn´t find much really good oldschool hash in the last time. Well El Marssa, Massawa and Flashpoint had good quality moroccans on my last visits. I liked the Marssa Special the most from the three but like said before all were good for their own.
Personally I really liked the moroccans with foreign genetics from afghan, paki, nepal... but I didn´t find any good on my last visits
I will make a short trip to Eindhoven next week... maybe I can find there some top moroccan from Coffeeshop The Wall... furhermore we want to check out Kruidentuin in Nijmegen wich is also pretty famous for their hash quality.

Think it's not really fair comparing shops in general but somewhere you have to start, no? Anyway, I'm with DeLeuksteNugs16 here(by the way I read your first version you edited and didn't find it too harsh)and would trade Utopia instead of closing De Graal anytime.
Mostly bought hash at Utopia and never found it overly interesting. Nice enough shop but disposable, no character at all in my humble opinion. One thing is definitely better than at De Graal though: they have a proper selection of clean glass bongs(rarely happens in coffeeshops)compared to De Graal with them sometimes even providing plastic ones(yuk).
Apart from that I prefer De Graal definitely. Even boycotted Utopia this time as read before they gonna stay open most probably anyway. Even though I'd wish De Graal would stay open I can live with others liking this place here. Each to their own and all that.

My favourite smokes from here were:
1. Grand Cru, moroccan hashish when it was introduced here
2. White Fire OG, supposed to be outdoor grown weed from the Usa and indeed the best I smoked in years at coffeeshops. So distinctively different from the usual coffeeshop schwag. Very different but pleasant taste.
3. Amnesia Cream ; while I think it has nothing do to with Amnesia at all, especially with all those Amnesias popping up these days, this here is more a fancy name with probably genetics from Afghanistan/Pakistan

Great reviews jess, you're on a roll today keep 'em coming. Need to got some last bits of choice hash before the holidays whisk me off elsewhere, so I'm certainly keen to hear what you have to say on what's hot around town at the moment. Hope the holidays are treating you well!

Just look at my current posts I pointed that out as always. Tastewise as in general it would be OG Cheese or for strength and overall experience this pricy Chemdawg, both at Bluebird. That Tropicana at Katsu could also be worth a try. El Marssa's best seems to be a sure shot for traditional moroccan hash, too. Enjoy!

Didn't make it to Eindhoven this month but am optimistic about next year they're finally getting rid of that crappy Wietpas(again hopefully other towns in Noord Brabant to follow ). If you're looking for traditional moroccan hash you should consider Casablanca too but on the other hand you're going to Nijmegen anyway ! Enjoy!
