Have you ever smoke Cali weed? I understand hating on the high prices, but I don't see how anyone could hate on stronger weed. Not to say all Cali is fire, but the little I have tried of it here was like crack, much stronger than other weed I've smoked, it's just very overpriced.

As you can get real cali, what do you think of it ? is it worth the hype ?,
had a couple of bits from Canada which was nice, don't get me wrong , but not really worth price or hype to be honest, but maybe that is sometimes the same with the latest strains full stop. I remember a visit when we were looking for GG4, all the shops had these amazing buds on their instagram pages and when we arrived it was just tiny mugs with little smell :)
but with all the strains available over there you will be getting a lot more choice and quality ? ,

Actual Cali grown weed is tops, terpenes off the charts, but I wish y'all were in Amsterdam in 2005-well grown examples of Dutch grown weed gave me instant eye droop and a feeling of being walloped upside the head, oftentimes with just the 1st hit off a small pipe. Good times.

The Dutch can grow insanely powerful, highly crystallized weed, based on my experiences in the early 2000s. They just need to be given an oppurtunity if you know what I mean.

Maybe the Dutch growers from 2005 who have been scared off can lend their expertise to those who supply The Plug(Spanish sources?) on which nute recipe to use to grow the mind blowing, dab-like weed they used to supply Mokum coffeeshops with.

I should add, I've never actually bought Cali from a Coffeeshop but have bought it at home to see what all the fuss is about, it's actually a little bit cheaper here than in Coffeeshops. It was amazing, but way overpriced and in Amsterdam especially when there's so much to choose from I would not buy it. Though as it seems it's cheaper by the canals maybe I might treat myself next time

It doesn't answer the question as to whether you have ever smoked any Cali or not. You have a lot of opinions about something and we haven't even established if you've ever even tried said thing. You had a similar rant previously hating on Barcelona, even though you've never been. Could you do us all a favour and at least go and experience things before you start chucking shit at them? :P

Excellent question: the short answer is depending on relative price, absolutely. As I work full-time nowadays I have A.) less free time to consume excessive amounts of weed, and thus consequently burn through the weed less frequently; B.) more disposable income and champagne tastes.

For me a lot (note: NOT ALL) of the Dutch grown weed has gone downhill a bit in recent years. The fresher batches from non-coffeeshop sources, and the small-batch homegrown from friends being somewhat of an exception - but the changing landscape of the weed game in AMS both within and outside of coffeeshops has certainly shaken things up a bit.

Basically with my new extra income and more snobbish tastes a lot of what I would buy would be top-shelf (local grown) from the ---shops, and even most of that lately has not been to my liking. When I can get top-shelf import for what the top-shelf local costs in shops (and still under the ceiling price in said shops), and the former is markedly better - why would I not opt for the former. I mean growers not withstanding I would say it's also better quality and priced than most of the UK local-grown that's on the market over there. I mean the prices Cali goes for in the shops and in the UK, hell no would not pay that - but at the 'relatively' more favorable rates I can source it for...sure why not?!

My experience is little compared to you traveling to get the "Cali" that's sure, i'm not dissing anybody, i would love to weedtravel. Cali people used to grow in ams not so long ago, promoting strains with exclusivity for coffeshops, everything changed with legalisation in the us.

I will always look for new strains but this quest has limits just look what is happening to the cookie hype berner is getting flames.

Not dissing anybody, but you put 'air-quotes' on the word Cali. Again not sure what that implication is, I can't speak for my Celtic comrade but again, as I've ordered and tracked deliveries myself I know mine comes straight out of the Golden State no ifs, ands or buts about it.

Berner is getting flames? What does that even mean?! Care to elaborate, please? A good haze (and/or G-13) is great but unbeatable assuredly not... plenty of these newer strains do beat it, period!

Lastly, yes the smaller batch stuff well grown locally by passionate growers can be some of the best, but nowhere and nobody in this country has the kinds of technology and state of the art facilities/grow-gear at their disposal as they do in the (legal) States. Only Canada is really (close) to being on par in that respect.

Anyway, not dissing anyone...stay crispy, stay vigilant and stay selfishly drugged y'all!

Sorry gonna have to chime-in here on a couple points buddy.

Firstly - tastes are subjective. There's no 'best' strain. So if wlow rates his G13 as unbeatable. So be it. I feel much the same about Amnesia / SSH. Never had another strain that beat a good example of either on flavour. Ever. Fuck Zkittles, and Cookies and the horses they rode in on. Breeding started and ended with Neville. (OK - exaggeration - but you take my point).

Secondly. This snobbery around 'cali' is getting ridiculous. it's exceeding the so called Uk VS AMS quality 'debate' level of snobbery and that's saying something.

Now - it might well be that the examples you've tried are amongst the best you've ever had. That I can accept as I know you persaonlly and 100% trust your tastes and recommendations. But I don't accept for a single second that Californina is any better at growing Cannabis (specially indoors) than any other country. They haven't been doing it longer, or better, they don't have access to equipment that no-one else does (in fact an awful lot of the lighting/controller/nutrient tech is developed in Europe; NL specifically). But what they do have are very loud voices and they LOVE to create and beleive in their own hype. I'm postive that the US has high-quality cannabis. As does just about every other country on the planet where consumption and a subsequent commercial marketplace are taken seriously.

But my point is when it's grown indoors - it could be from anywhere and still raise the quality bar.
EVERYONE in the industry is working with similiar genetics and similar equipment. The quality of the output is down to the producer.

I've seen 'no-till' bio-organic farmers with decades of experience that claim to be able to spot 'dirty Hydro' with the eye (unknowingly) smoke hydro-grown product and be blown away. My point is - 'quality' is highly situationally subjective and even growers with huge amounts of experience are subject to their own confirmation bias. basically - I simply don't trust the opinion of the community writ large. Largely because it's so subject to trend. Which is a common predictor for bias.

When someone shows me some unbeatable quality OUTDOOR Cali. Grown in the ground, organically. WITHOUT dangerous levels of pesticides (good luck with that). THEN I'll beleive the hype. Till then - these claims of unbeatable quality raise a good old eye-roll from yours truly. This seemingly all pervasive idea that the growers of California have access to some mystical golden skill-set is an absolute nonsense. Marketing hype: A big ol' slice of the American dream pie.

Everybody's favorite argumentative cunt checking back in. A lot of your points are valid, I shouldn't have been so assertive about the haze bit as I mostly agree - hell I'm puffin on some Pandor's Ghost (haze on haze genetics) right now in the Dynavap - but it's just so overdone that it's nice to have some fresh new (and astoundingly potent) flavors available in abundance over here.

Regarding grow-gear I'm not talking about silly nutrients, I'm talking about high-quality lighting and automated and climate-controlled environments, sorry the space, shops and leniency from law enforcement just don't exist elsewhere to have that. Find me a big state-of-art grow area in the UK as described and I'll pull down the curtain and show you some Vietnamese indentured-servants propping up the proverbial "Wizard of Oz" gimmick, right next to the tuna errm weed can counterfeiting factory they're churning out.

Regarding outdoor though, the climate of Northern California is those rebellious hills of Humboldt seems to largely favor our sacred plant, and usually spurs levels of trich production and just overall yields that I've not seen even closely matched elsewhere. But I am obviously not the end all be all of such knowledge...surprise! Again I could be wrong, but of all outdoor bud I've countered I would argue that Cali grown sets itself even more apart (than with indoor) from other areas/countries. I've never seen outdoor bud from anywhere come close to the best NorCal outdoor I've seen. And like you until I see a convincing example, my mind is unlikely to be changed.

Nationality doesn't preclude anybody being a better grower, but would anybody knock someone lauding Italian wine, French cheese, German beer or Belgian chocolate as the best?! No, they wouldn't - similar to the US, even from Amsterdam's early days many (if not most) of the pioneers that helped start intensive indoor breeding over here, were from the US. The Dutch just as a whole, really lack an affinity with weed, in the US and especially Western states that is not the case at all. The US is the propagator of much of what we view as "stoner culture" for better or for worse. They have undeniably spurred much of the advancement in new methods of consumption. Take Rosin and BHO: techs invented in and diffused from the US. There's many more examples I could insert here, but that should be a good enough start to speak for itself!

Of course equally (well again refer to state-of-the-art growrooms bit so with limitations actually*) or rather close to equally good ganja can be grown anywhere, but it is not done anywhere else on the same scale, with the same consistency for the same price except maybe Canada.

Anyway, I know you'll have your objections and counterpoints here, but that's how I see it any matter.

Hmmm. "high-quality lighting and automated and climate-controlled environments" don't require an end to prohibition - and can be done on even a hobbyist scale. Size of operation doesn't equal better quality. If anything I'd argue the complete opposite: Scale brings complication and less attention to each individual plant and the treatment of the end product. Also - automation isn't an indicator of quality. Rather an indicator of how much work is needed. We definteily have our share of state-of-the-art closed-loop grow-ops that rival anything seen stateside in terms of technique (if not size) ;)

This I can accept might indeed be the case. Terroir could well be the factor that provides 'the best' Cannabis.
However - in judging 'quality'. I'd also want to see and consider the residual pesticide PPM count as part of my appreciation for what I'm inhaling. It's easy to wash chemcials off apples before you eat them. Not so with Cannabis. And California definitely has its problems in that regard. My point being - there are benefits to indoor-grown when this factor is considered. So I'm still not convinced that 'sun-grown' provides the best experience. I'm prepared to be. But my value judgement on quality is a marriage of intense potency and flavour, importantly - combined with as much harm-reduction as I can realistically manage. So for me. I can't judge ANYTHING as 100% unless I 100% know what the inputs were. Which can never be said for CS grown or imported product. Period ;)
I don't trust import hash for the same reasons. It's impossible to know what's in these products without lab testing - so for me. It's impossible to really hold a credible postion on their quality.

Sure. Agreed. But again. France and Italy make the same claims about their Terroir. Which I hold with a similar snarky skeptical disregard. The Danish think their pastry is best, The UK their fish and chips. Blah-blah-fucking-blah.
And again I think you're using some confirmaton bias to drive your point home which isn't necessarily relevant. The US didn't invent hydro-carbon extraction. Nor were they the first to do this with Cannabis. You could argue that they pushed up quality and I'd agree. And they did create the concentrate market to the degree it exists now. But again - these are techniques known commercially world-wide so the UK and Europe catch up quality wise very quickly. Albeit in a smaller market-place. So while North America (Canada included) might push the industry forward in many regards. And I'd agree that they do this more consistently and on a larger scale than anywhere else - this doesn't mean that they're the arbiters or the end-game of quality.

Again I'd refer to the problems arising in California around legalisation and remind you that this new found legal 'freedom' doesn't necessarily transpose to an increase in quality. I've heard from a number of sources recently that regulations and licensing issues are making top-shelf quality (at realistic prices) increasingly hard to find on the shelves of dispensearies state side (some states being less affected than others) with California suffering the most.
So ultimately - who knows what this import contains?

Anyway - you're right. I am an argumentative cunt. And I need to get some work done (and have a dab).
I appreciate the debate though.
