You can count me as one who will stand by you in this fight, although I'm not sure how effective I can be seeing that I'm not a Dutch citizen or resident.

I could probably guess if I reread the entire thread, but why bother looking for words from a fool?

Some crazy out of the box idea that won't happen in reality but could make a difference: All the cs owners of Amsterdam unite in protest and decide to have all shops closed for a set period of time - let's say 3 days for example. All having the same message displayed in the doors/windows saying something like "With the current gov. plans of the weed pass, our shop would have to close in 2014. By 2015 there would be no more coffeeshops in the city of Amsterdam. If you want to help us keeping our coffeeshop open then please call [gov #]... write an letter or email to [@gov]....".

I know the cs would loose a load of money and some tourists would probably go berserk. Your thoughts?

As an australian we are absolutely famous for writing letters to our government. I would be more then happy to write a letter to the Netherlands government expressing my views, If I knew who to send it too.

You did hit the main snag in your idea, C/S's would loose money if closed for these days, but given what may possibly be in the near future... tough call.
Pulling a thread from your message idea, maybe do a series of posters along the lines of Refer Madness, but instead of the madness being caused by the use, it would be caused by the new policy/law. Depict people out of work, bread lines (wtf? hehe), projected crime statistics, citizens screaming in the streets as cannabis plants are thrown out of windows into large piles and lit aflame, etc...
I'm no artist, but someone with a bit of talent could create something like this, maybe even get it printed and distributed!?

Better to have (and share) ideas regardless of how viewed than to just do nothing.

Originally the Dutch Minister of Security and Justice aimed at January 1, but several villages asked him to put off the ID’s introduction. The provinces of Noord-Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland will start on May, the rest of the country will follow in 2013.

Coffeeshops
Coffeeshops may only allow a maximum of 2000 members who should all live in The Netherlands. Moreover, every coffeeshop should be stiuated at least 350m from a school.
Minister Opstelten believes that these measures will make coffeeshops smaller and more controllable and less attractive to foreigners.

Update Weedpass. Feb 6, 2012

The Weedpass project is causing a lot of commotion in coffeeshops, cities and city councils.

Eindhoven's Mayor says his city needs more coffeeshops once the weedpass is active, due to the 2000 member restriction, he says he has more smokers than places in coffeeshops.

Helmond, a town that had a major conflict about opening a second coffeeshop, now wants to open one or two more coffeeshops, after the former Mayor, who was involved in the coffeeshop conflict, announced to step down.

Maastricht has about 300 drugrunners, supplying their, mainly french, customers through more than 500 so-called 'kilo-houses', where large quantities of cannabis are being sold, and other drugs, of course. The neighborhood committees have gone straight to the government with their complaints about turfwars in their streets, the Mayor says the problems will all be solved with more policing...

The biggest coffeeshop in the Netherlands, at the German border outside Venlo, annonced they will close their shop on May 1, when the weedpass project is introduced, They are serving German customers, so they do not enter the city of Venlo, and go straight back to Germany with their weed or hash. In fact, they are two coffeeshops in one building, Roots, and Oase. The City of Venlo is not happy with their announcement, as they expect the Germans will all come to the city now. They will have the same problem they ahs before the two coffeeshops were moved to the border, if the shop closes. Thanks to the wisdom of Minister Opstelten.

Mayor Lonink of Terneuzen expects a legal struggle around the weedpass project once it takes off, he states the coffeeshops will be starting courtcases against the limitations they are facing.
He also states, although 'only the police' can check the register in a coffeeshop, many customers will not want to register, so that will lead to a lot of problems.

The pressure on city councils is mounting, and they will all go to Opstelten with their complaints.
Will the weedpass eventually take of, or will it die in uglyness? I hope for the last, but on hope alone we can not carry on, the 420 protest in Amsterdam will have to show the Netherlands coffeeshops are necessary, for the Dutch and for the tourist seeking a smoke in freedom....

Well thats all starting to get interesting, as expected now that deadlines approach.
My reluctance to be involved in the protest in Amsterdam is just my old fashioned sense of it being not my house. Were your house on fire I would rush to help you put it out , but the rules by which you run your house are your affair. If I dont like them I dont come in.
But you have my best wishes, and I am active here to get things changed and ease the pressure on Holland. Then we can all loosen up a bit and I can enjoy many more wonderfully high bike rides around the fietspads.
