For what it's worth I have some friends in Amsterdam who don't believe it will ever be introduced in that city. I pray they're right, but I'm not convinced they are.

As somebody said earlier in the thread, this is not going to affect just the coffee shops but all the tourist vendors, etc. Loads of excess stock that they can't get rid of. This will result in people going out of business. The whole thing is really sad.

nolvanschaik wrote:No, Opstelten seems to be able to get passed all these hurdles, because he insists on introducing the Weedpass, as you know.

Joossy was rambling about Amsterdam being of the hook, and felt sorry for my shops in Haarlem, so she is wrong in that. She also told me no worry, why have the Tilburg coffeeshopowners been told they have to hire a bouncer to refuse non-Dutch and check if the Dutch visitors are registered or want to be registered. Tilburg did not change the APV, so WTF, they just do it, see?
Hi Nol,

"Opstelten seems to be able to get passed all these hurdles"

What do you mean "seems" ? please explain.

You recent posts seem a bit contradicting/confusing.

Thanks.

It amazes me how one person thinks one place will be able to go against the rest of the whole country.

Joosy do you believe that only Amsterdam will be without a weed pass?

Can anyone find this oppressorvelt splein or what ever his name is email address?
slip & sal, on your first point, its not a case of going against the rest of the country. Nol has sort of explained how it works, i have said plenty of times it is down to local council to decide.

Will Amsterdam be the only place without a weedpass? I dont know, all i have ever spoken is in relation to Amsterdam. I only know about amsterdam & not the rest of the country.

that is kind of what i thought when i read nol's latest explanation regarding the need for help from the city council. it seems like the fascist christian democrats have to circumvent present law or create new law if the dams govt really does not want the weedpass.

Either way i still think it might be a good idea to look to secure a revenue stream to the dutch coffeeshops to keep them solvent. if they go bankrupt and are bought out they will be replaced by sterile ubiquitous shops etc. it will be a lot harder to start new ones than protecting the old ones from going down. look to soros and other supposed legalization advocates to help out. if they want to help the cause this would be a good start. we have a system(other than the back door policy) that illustrates that legalization or a de facto version has (according to the opponents themselves) not driven up consumption . those who oppose legalization always talk about how usage has exploded. netherlands is a good example of this not happening. any visit to the dam coupled with research ,also, illustrates that there is not a huge amount of social disorder or lack of productivity(netherlands is very productive per capita). the biggest argument against the cds rationale for closing down the shops is the present reality. legalization supporters should make sure that it does not fade away. hopefully, when the government regains it senses and realizes the discrimination of the weed tourist is pointless, counter productive and unfair the new laws(if they are enacted) will be overturned. high times or some organization would do well to take donations from the millions of stoners worldwide that don't appreciate being fucked with and help out the coffeeshops

I have been right in stating many times that legally in law Amsterdam will get to decide if they want the weedpass, it is Amsterdams choice plain and simple. As we know the Amsterdam mayor and council are against it for many many obvious reasons. Amsterdam coffeeshops are not worried. This is a good thing people :D

Why does the government like to fuck around with these kind of things? Such a waste of time and effort. Resources could be better used in other areas rather than fuck with a policy that has suceeded. I mean it is not broken so why fix it? This is a perfect area to attack for the political opportunist though. This backdoor route of getting rid of coffeeshops satisfys the party's popular Christian agenda by being unfriendly towards immigrants/migrants who are said to control a lot of this trade.

Nasty lot, hope they don't last long.

More bad news...

There is still hope though, as can be seen in this paragraph..

. If you look at the comments on the Dutch news sites, everyone is almost universally against this, not because they smoke (most Dutch do not), but because they know it will bring street dealing of cannabis back to Amsterdam. Nobody wants that!

Yes you've been totally right in stating that's how the law is now. Do you want a Donald Duck badge or a Mickey Mouse one?

What I think we've been trying to say the whole time is that these laws may change and the choice to participate would be taken away from the Council's and it would be enforced nationwide in the future.

This means that that law would change Jooosy. NATIONWIDE. This means Amsterdam as well. This means you'd be wrong then. All signs so far show that this will probably happen. They will try to change the law so nobody can go against the weed pass.

Oppreselten or whatever his name is, is shown to have said this. He will try to change the law. He wants all the weed shops, everywhere not everywhere but Amsterdam. Its almost like he read your comments and explained again just so you'd understand.

Your wrong if you think the politicians can't change the law. They can and said they will.

I see politicians do dodgy things every day. Australia didn't want a carbon tax, our Prime Minister gave us one anyway.

A law might change

You don't say

At no point have I argued laws wont change, I havent even discussed it!
All I have tried to do is let people know that the earliest anything can change in Amsterdam is 2015. I have done this to stop all the doom mongers and rumour mongers spouting rubbish that as of jan 2013 no tourist will be able to buy weed in Dam when its just not true. You say im correct in stating how the law is now, well that is what most people have been confused by because of all the mis information on the net.

In Amsterdam nothing can change before 2015 and even then i doubt anything will change. coffeeshops will always be debated. For 30 years coffeeshops have been debated its nothing new, the weedpass was first discussed in 2003 nearly ten years ago!

No need for badges, as long as people are not fooled into thinking amsterdam coffeeshops will be closed to tourists in jan 2013 i will be happy :D

Just looked at the linked article, with the title "wietpass coming to amsterdam 2013" that is exactly what i have been talking about. mis information / irresponsible journalism / bullshit angle on the story that just confuses people, then it gets re hashed by another 100 websites adding to the bullshit rumours. Its portraying that the weedpass is coming in jan 2013 as fact, which is not true. The article does not tell you that it is not opestelton's choice to bring in the weedpas in dam does it?

The story then gets linked to a forum with the announcement with no fault of the poster "more bad news" all this does is stokes the flames of mis information

The website is just trying to get support for the smokeout & its not telling smokers the whole story just the bits they want you to read.

EDIT
just looked again and the story is just copied from another site, so its already in the rehashed state! content is king so anyone with a website to do with marijuana will just add this story to their site. All this does is adds to all the confusion already out there!

so Joosy you think that a law can change, but Amsterdam is definitely safe for the next 3 years?

Call me crazy as well, but where you got all your evidence that it won't happen, is from one story also being rehashed.

the Dutch Tolerance Policy, that provides the legislation under which the Dutch coffee shops can operate, was renewed on 1st July 2011 and will be valid until June 30th, 2015.

For a law change to happen that could over ride this would take years to pass anyway.

You're crazy :D

Why are you so determined for a negative outcome as far as tourists are concerned?
