Re: My first grow - journal w/ pics
Made qwiso with the lower buds and trim from the kandy kush plant I harvested. Got about 3.5 grams worth, only did one extraction for about 30 seconds. It's darker than I would like, I think that's because of the leaf material, the iso turned green almost immediately. However the hash is dark brown and when the light hits it just right it sparkles like crazy.
The bud from that plant has been combined into one jar, and is holding a steady 63% humidity. The good smells are starting to come back too, and when I put a bud in the grinder the odor really comes through. I took some of that bud and threw it in the bong with some of the qwiso about an hour ago and I'm feeling really good. One bong hit and I'm still really high. The qwiso does the trick!
I think I'm going to the head shop today, I need something better to smoke the hash/oils I will be making. Probably thinking of an attachment for the bong, as well as a handheld device...I saw something, you put oil in the little glass vial, and screw it into the stainless steel pipe...Then you hold a flame near the vial as you pull through the stainless steel pipe...supposed to work really well?
I flushed another gallon through the 8 remaining plants on tuesday, and I'm going to do it again on friday, which will be the 4th gallon I've run through the pots. I was gentle when watering, but now I've been pouring the gallon of water into the pots as fast as I can, practically dumping it in. My thinking is if I want it to run through, taking salts with it, it needs to be super saturated...I hope this is the right way...the plants seem to be taking it, so how bad could it be?
Pics of the bud in the jar and qwiso to come later today...
Alright...I'm going out for some breakfast before I have to get on this conference call...

Re: My first grow - journal w/ pics
Couldn't help myself...went for another bong hit w/ qwiso instead of breakfast...this stuff is pretty good...not the best qwiso I've made but good. It's awesome that it's made entirely from trash - most times I make concentrates (either qwiso or bho) it's because the bud I bought wasn't worth smoking or I had a lot of really good bud around and wanted to treat myself...but the cost of making a bit of qwiso out of say 5 grams of weed when it $15 a gram...

Wow, nice looking gear.
Had to have another hit from the qwiso eh? Too good for just one hit.
Sounds like your flushing technique is working out, cool. One gallon per plant per flush, correct? What is the size of the containers, again? (too lazy to go back and read). As long as there is a substantial amount of water seeping out of the bottom, good. If only a trickle, not good, not enough water is passing through the medium to properly flush the chemicals/salts. As if I had to mention it, sorry.
Another week to ten days and the plants should be ready, all things considered.
When's the party?
Happy farming.

Thanks for the compliments. I think it looks pretty damn good too. Better than expected, to tell the truth.Uncle Ron wrote:Wow, nice looking gear.

One gallon per plant per flush, and they're in three gallon pots. I think each plant is going to get a total of 5, or I may harvest half after the 4th gallon and half after the 5th...
I figure the party is still at least three or four weeks away, for drying and curing...

Damned if I don't start to drool when looking at the pics...
You mentioned earlier that you thought the qwiso was darker than you liked because of plant material, please explain.
All things considered, I thought color had more to do with land-race (hence the difference in hash color), ie... Trans Himalaya (Iran, Afghan, Pak, India, Nepal); South America (edit: Colombia and Brazil); Northwest Africa (mainly Morocco and Algeria); Indochina (mainly Thai); etc... Either way, this stuff looks awesome, yummylicious.
Note: I realize that any strain grown long enough in a region could be labeled a land-race, I used the more commonly known varieties.
I don't recall if you are making it to the 420 festivities, but if you do, may I suggest bringing some samples?
Happy farming.

Re: My first grow - journal w/ pics
As soon as the iso hit the trimmings/leaves, it turned a deep neonish green. In the past when I've made qwiso I only used buds and the iso would only turn green if I left it soaking for more than 30 seconds, and it was a much darker green/black color. I guess because there was a lot more green material like sugar leaves and stuff that much more chloryphyll got in the iso.
Once dried though, its not green at all, as you can see...

Re: My first grow - journal w/ pics
Thanks for that bit of info ZBeebs.
Bleak shared some of his qwiso last September and it was mighty nice. One of the many things I plan on experimenting with in the not-so-distant future. Might as well set up my own lab.
Qwiso, BHO, Ice-o, and any other 'o' method/process I can find or think of, not to mention increasing the yield and quality of bud.
Happy farming.

The remaining 8 plants got flushed with another gallon of water today, thats 5 gallons through each pot. It's roughly the 56th day of flowering. Going away for the weekend, the plants will be on their own from Friday morning until Monday evening. They will get water on Thursday night, and then not again until monday night...They will definitely be suffering from drought/underwatering.
I could harvest them Thursday night (60 days) and then they would be fine drying over the weekend on their own...

Do you have someone that can mind the plants?ZBeebs wrote:The remaining 8 plants got flushed with another gallon of water today, thats 5 gallons through each pot. How much water is seeping out the bottom of the containers when you flush?
In my opinion, it's a waste of time if less than half the water used seeps out. My reasoning: If the medium isn't flushed expeditiously, the plant will continue to absorb chemicals. Every time the plant is flushed, water should be literally flowing out of the bottom of the container. The purpose of flushing is to rid the plant of chemicals, so why do it half-assed?
Something I've been thinking (theorizing?) is the potential benefit of flushing the plant twice on scheduled days, at first and last light. My theory is that the first application would provide water that the plant needs, plus the removal of chemicals from the medium. The second application is targeted specifically for the removal of chemicals. When the light is out, photosynthesis stops, which in turn dramatically decreases up-take. This would allow (theory or fact?) the medium to be flushed without the plant absorbing chemicals in the process. Given that the plant will only be flushed on four or five occasions (days) over a two week period, there shouldn't be serious concerns of over-watering. Actually, there shouldn't be any concerns of over-watering, this is the intent after all.
Happy farming.

Re: My first grow - journal w/ pics
My estimate is at least half the gallon of water is running out the bottom of the pot. The water runs through pretty well, and quickly.
I am also getting a lot of yellowing and drying out of leaves, from my reading this is because the plant has used up much of the nutes in the soil and is now using whats stored in the leaves?
I have no one to watch the plants, so it's either risk it and leave them from Thursday night to Monday morning or harvest on Thursday night....my frame of reference on this is when I was watering normally, I had to water every other day or they would begin to show signs of underwatering. Now that I am flushing them with 3 times as much water as a normal watering, I am able to go an extra day before the soil is dry, but the additional extra day while I'm away worries me...The last time I tried to go an extra day without water (during veg, not flowering) they wilted badly.

If your going to chop them when you come back why dont you just set the timer for 24hrs dark the dy before you come back , that way you might get away with the water you have fed them (no hot light for 12hrs) and the alleged method of giving dark for 24hrs to try boost resin production (dont know if thats fact or fiction!?)

Yeah I'd chop them once you come back, it wont really matter if they are wilting as you want them to dry once they're chopped anyway.
cisco, I reckon the dark period stuff is bollocks just like hanging the plants upside down makes the resin flow into the top cola.
