It isn't though as skunk is a specific strain.

Say you're going to smoke some hydro then, saying that how do you know it's hydro? it may of been grown in soil.
BARBIE wrote:But when not in Amsterdam you often rely on your local dealer, and they tend to talk shit about what they have. I know Americans take more pride in believing there dealer really does grow super shit. And i also know Americans grow alot better weed than UK, by a law of average..
But we're talking about Amsterdam, the coffeeshops and the specific strains they sell.
Your last statement is bollocks as well, I read a lot of grow forums and us Brits can grow weed with the best of them, geography doesn't mean shit.
BARBIE wrote:But seriously lay of the Brits who refer to weed as skunk, im not going to pull you up if you walk to the bar and say your going to order a beer,. Oh what type of beer, what do you mean. What strain..
I'm a Brit and when I go to the pub I ask for a pint of ..... whatever the beer is called I dont ask for lager, bitter, mild or cider.
BARBIE wrote:I mean weed ego's can stay away on these types of threads because its not a penis measuring contest guys. Its how one country describe weed.
And plus i have a small penis.

Yes because actually wanting to talk about specific strains is a good way to measure someones penis and by constantly referring to all weed as skunk is just inorant but if you're happy with that then fair play.

Wow, on the defensive am i.. lol
For starters my main point is that british people say the word skunk as a reference to weed, mary jane cannabis.. Not a single stype and not refering to the strain skunk, which we know is available. Have a made myself cleare there. I do hope so.
Now Boner i know your a seasoned forum member and i have read many of your posts and you talk sense, so let me answer your responses.
Your first point i said as much, yes skunk is a strain, i made clear my point as above.
My second point i used a bad example, by hydro i meant, green, weed mary jane.. Not a way of growing weed, i was wrong there choose my words wrong.
I never said Brits cant grow and trust me i know 1 or 2 chaps who get some very handsome weed, grown locally and im talking 15 - 18%THC which is great for a UK grown. What i meant in my experience of forums others research and just chatter to others.. American weed on the average is better, they pay alot more money, the risk is greater (the punishment) and in my experience Brtish stuff is either great or bollocks, and tends to be sprayed alot as of late, but hey im from Here, your from there.. Miles apart in terms of who we get our shit from.. Just my opinion none the less
Again was just my choice of words, like saying im off out on my bike.. not saying, im off out on my GT Mountain Bike.. Just an example of using the wrod "skunk" as describing green. weed..
i didnt really get your last comment, i personally pay alot of attention to strains, and there Genetics effects and the way they look etc etc etc... I was simply making a point about the word skunk..
Hope that made better sense, didnt mean this to turn into a usa vs uk growing weed skunk weird debate..
Im british as well, so no need for my bias

Bullshit, what about Mexican brick weed. Good weed can be found anywhere, bad weed can be found anywhere, to say on average is a pretty big jump, i take it you've smoked enough weed in both countries to make that judgement
Its not a UK vs. USA thing, its purely an issue with validity

The best weed I've ever smoked was grown here in the UK.

Born in England lived in the U.S.A and Australia a combined 8 years..
Most of my judgement is on forums and just looking at pictures of peoples personnels, again just an opinion, theres no way you can do a survey on this.
I have to say on average it seems Americans pay alot, i mean i hear alot say they pay like 280 - 320 on an ounce. Now my conversion isnt fantastic but i make that around £200.00. Now depending who your buying from and quality thats alot.
But again, i never get by eight deals if i buy an eigth for 20.00 i generally get 2.8g.
The main issue i rasied was ignored none the less, but im sure youve got my point.
And the best weed i smoked was Australia, im sure it was pretty shit and i was just a n00b but none the less i havent been that high since.

Interesting to hear you refer to all weed as hydro, I haven't come across that before. Hydroponics is always used as a description of how the weed is grown, in my experience

In the states hydroponically grown weed is sold as 'dro'. It sounds slick and all the tools who don't know anything are unaware they're getting a product that is inferior to that which is grown organically in soil. Works well as a sales gimmick to the uninitiated.

I think the point Boner and many others are making is that when you post on a forum dedicated to coffeeshops in Amsterdam and the product they sell, whether it be weed or hash, there is shall we say, a certain
understanding that a review of this or that shop should normally include the actual strain that you've been smoking perhaps?
If you are on the street chatting with your mates, then you may just refer to it as skunk or whatever, but this is a FORUM. The fact that so many people in this country (UK) don't know the difference has no bearing here, where the whole point of posting on let's say
this Grey Area thread would be to discuss how good the Yellow Cab is right now, or how badly the Golden Soles hit the back of your head (just to try and keep things slightly on topic).
If you have no interest in learning more about this stuff, then why bother joining a somewhat specialised forum like this?
I certainly wouldn't want to read a travel report that read,
"... so I went to Amsterdam and me and my mates went in this coffeeshop and we bought some skunk and it was crap so we left and we went to another coffeeshop and the skunk was better so we smoked up some more and then we left and went to another coffeeshop and it was ok and we smoked some more skunk there and it wasn't as good as the last skunk which we thought was weird so we went and found another coffeeshop and bought some skunk in there and it was the best we had smoked..."
You may have noticed that are all sorts of sub-menus for even more specialised areas of interest on the ACD forums - filling these threads with mindless generalisations is actually the opposite of their original purpose.
But seriously lay of the Brits who refer to weed as skunk, im not going to pull you up if you walk to the bar and say your going to order a beer,. Oh what type of beer, what do you mean. What strain..
I mean weed ego's can stay away on these types of threads because its not a penis measuring contest guys. Its how one country describe weed.
I'm sure that there are many, many people who go to Amsterdam on holiday every day and the first time they see a coffeeshop menu they are bedazzled by the vast array of different strains, or go to a bar and find a menu for the different beers... Hmmm - what do I do now? Walk away and find somewhere that just sells one kind of weed or beer? No - I'll go to the Grasshopper instead and behave like the rest of the tourists.
Hang on - I'm going to a restaurant next week and I'm gonna treat myself to some... FOOD. I mean, that's what I order when I go to the chipshop - "£3 worth of FOOD please..."
You have to look at these things IN CONTEXT. When you're with people who may have no knowledge of the finer things in life, feel free to call it skunk or hydro or whatever they have seen the ignorant media describing it as. Here, there are too many "weed ego's" because this IS the place. On THESE types of threads.
Like Sir Niall, I'm a weed snob too if you have to put it that way - and like Boner, I also smoke better weed here (Apollo11) than I can generally find in Amsterdam - and yes, we all have something in common - we come to Amsterdam to enjoy the whole experience, not just the "skunk".
And please excuse us if we bore you with mindless details about the LA Confidential or Big Buddah Cheese in Grey Area or the merits of whatever fine dining establishments we frequent... We're only trying to help.

Without turning this whole thread into an arguement please just read my comments.
I defended an earlier poster who was pulled up on saying the word skunk as a meaning for just cannabis, when he explained what i did he was also jumped on.
I too see myself as a connossiour of weed, pardon the spelling on that. But all i ever stated was it is refered to as skunk as weed.
But tottaly agree about your earlier comments about the know how of the weed right now in the GA, hence the title of the thread.
I just keep having to defend myself when people are undermining every line of what i say when they are merley all metaphors for the point a had been stressing originally, but this could go on forever.
And dont assume because im defending someone who refers in his normal hours his bagweed, as skunk is clueless. I may not have posted 2000 times, but i have certainly earned my stoner badges.
I refer to my penis metaphor earlier, some forum posters just have to make clear the size of there keyboard penis more than others.
But agreed, on the GA comment of keeping the topic relative and about the quality. I apologise for straying of comment.

I agree, these are supposed to be coffeeshop review pages.
Went Grey Area in summer was was very dissapointed. After hearing loads about it I was really looking foward to going but found it a real let down. I knew it was small but it really is small, and for me not somewhere I wanna chill as I like a bit of personal space. The weed and hash prices are reasonable compared to somewhere like barneys, but the gear i tried didnt live up to hype. IMHO the big buddah cheese (e12.00 1g) was mellow compared to wot I get here never mind HGF, the golden soles (e12.50 1g) was very 'coughy', and tasted somewhat bitter to me. The one plus was the yellow cab, great smoke for price 1g for e8.50 seems a bargin, batch i had vas very uplifting and a great smoke for sight seeing. The dealer was friendly enough but stoned off his tits! I do think this place is overhyped, especially to us brits. hope this helped

Generalisations such as labelling all weed as ‘skunk’ contributes to the constant negative press cannabis receives. The following article shows that even the deluded leader of our nation believes ‘lethal skunk’ is a completely different drug to any other strain of cannabis:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7372876.stm
Anyway, back on topic – I always make an effort to visit Grey Area as the weed is always great and the prices are very competitive. It is on the small side though so you’ll be lucky to get a seat.
