The Edinburgh posse is joke, a figment of my disordered mind :D. I dont do physicals 8)

Slip and Sal, you have been to Amsterdam, been bitten by the bug and are now passionate. I respect that, I bet it happened to us all. The reason I blew is because this thread is going round and round in speculative circles and it's quite depressing because all of us non Dutch wont have any bearing on it at all. Facebook & Twitter campaigns, mass smokeouts, forget it, I know the Dutch it will be settled by them in their own way.

And for the record, I've thought Jossy had his finger on it all along.

45 years my love affair with Holland, no wonder I'm depressed :(

Peace, out.
What a long strange trip it is.

Now you can only buy 5g and you can't drink alcohol in coffeeshops.

When these changes came about were they imposed at a national level? Or did municipal authorities have the right to reject these changes?

I assume not, because these are the rules that govern all coffeeshops and are a condition of their licenses as well. I've not come across any suggestion that local councils can change these conditions in their given area, even though they themselves grant the licenses.
.
In which case, it seems to me that if local authorities didn't have the right to over-ride these proposals (because the legislation was established at a national level) then a weedpass could also be imposed at a national level and the local authorities would have to accept them as well, whether they want to or not.

National laws clearly frame the coffeeshop policy, while local councils implement them (if they want to) at a local level. But that doesn't mean that councils can change the legal framework under which they operate (maximum amount for sale, amount for stock, alcohol, age limits, and so on). So if national laws change then presumably councils are required to operate within whatever new parameters they establish.

So if a weedpass is imposed at a national level, then the councils would have to implement it, whether they want to or not, just like the changes concerning the amounts coffeeshops can stock and sell, age limits, the alcohol ban, etc.

The responses by councils like Amsterdam and others indicate they don't want the weedpass, but they've not actually said that they have the absolute right of veto, so presumably the haven't got that right. If they had then the discussion taking place now wouldn't be happening. Councils wouldn't be saying they don't want the weedpass, they'd be saying they're not having it period, end of conversation. And the git proposing the legislation wouldn't be in a position to say that it will definitely apply to Amsterdam, as he has been doing. So presumably he thinks that national laws will over-ride any objections to the pass from local councils and stop them implementing it differently from the national guidelines.

I personally think if the weedpass is legislated at a national level, then councils will indeed have to implement it, just like the quantity limits, the booze ban, age limits and so on.

And presumably that's why the coffeeshop owners are so concerned. And rightly so. Because if the government legislate for it at a national level, then it'll probably happen, just like all the other conditions/restrictions currently in place.

That's not to say that it can't be challenged legally - on the basis of residential criteria, violation of privacy, restrictions and limitations concerning membership and the like - but that would be challenging the specifics of any law, not the principle of the law itself.

This is just me expressing my opinion, so please don't threaten to beat me up or anything if you disagree.  Just my thoughts on the weedpass thing from reading this thread and looking at the legal policies that seem to frame the coffeeshop policy...

Sorry to bump this up again but it's the best post I have read on here for a long time. Probably because it expresses exactly what I think and fear about the whole affair. Had I been structured or articulate enough I flatter myself that I might have been able to come up with something similar.

Thing is, I'm an old bastard and can remember going to Holland back in the days before coffeeshops even existed. It was 1970 or thereabouts.

It was hell, I can tell you. Scoring dope was an absolute nightmare.

Er... maybe it was because I was only 10 though come to think of it.... :?

I hope Joosy is a woman otherwise I might have to smash more heads! :) I'm sick of the speculation now as well. I want you all to think broader and what the ramifications would be if it were to happen.

Like a seedpass?

would another Amsterdam spring up? if so where?

Would weed in general suffer?

I'm not meaning to piss anyone off by talking about it. I just find it an interesting dilemma. Other countries worldwide seem to be becoming more and more lenient, where as Nederlands it would seem is tightening the noose.

I'm sorry if my interest and passion is annoying you. If this does continue on about whether or not it will or won't happen, I'm done also.

I sure hope one day all of us can share a joint or some bongs in Voyagers or a coffeeshop in Amsterdam some day.
Spidergawd, I don't know why your still reading it, if it's upset you.

Nol van SchaikAmsterdam 2012 - 420 Style Anti-Weedpass Smoke-out PROTEST!

BREAKING NEWS!!!

I just received an email from the 4 foremost cannabis Lawyers, they are going to start a court case to stop the weedpass from being introduced in the South, May 1. The case is based on the Resident Criteria I mentioned in earlier posts.
The case will be won, and it will stop the weedpass dead in its tracks.
Sadly we all need to remember that this has already been tested in the highest court available, the European Court, in the test case that was brought regarding the proposed introduction of the weedpass in Maastricht back in 2010. Unfortunately, The weedpass was deemed to be lawful by them.

So unless European laws are trumped by Dutch national laws, then if passed, any appeal is likely to fail. The fact this was established by test case doesn't bode well though. :(

Unfortunately, this proposal doesn't sound as if it's just being made up on a whim. By establishing a test case it seems to me that this has been carefully mapped out in advance by this far right leaning neo-nazi Dutch government. Let's be absolutely clear what they are and what they represent.

It can only be hoped that common sense will prevail and the present Dutch government recognises that they'll be committing a form of economic suicide if they continue with their plans, plans which are driven purely by ideological and probably racist motives.

The hope is that this can be stalled in time for for a change of government with a different agenda. Whether this is likely only a Dutch person with a better sense of the political dynamics of Holland will know.

Again, just my penn'orth, for what it''s worth

Nol's posting a lot of things on FB right now. Unfortunately much of it is in Dutch and I haven't had time to translate it all. Will try and look later and come back here with anything relevant.

There's also a page for the 420 Smokeout (run by Peter Lunk) - might be an idea to join that group to keep updated with info.

Dutch would also be fine. Please copy the dutch text in here if you find some time.

Puff..Don't forget to only post positive findings because if you post anything negative you will be accused of scare mongering and over hyping the situation..

Hence why I have stopped sharing information in this thread!! :?

It's pretty clear that this guy and his party aren't just planning to stop tourists going into coffeeshops. They really want to get rid of coffeeshops entirely. What's even more ominous is that he says: " The introduction of the Club Card is a start". What he really wants is to stop people smoking cannabis and to end the tolerance policy completely.

He's obviously seen how successful the war on drugs has been throughout the rest of the world, and now realises that Holland needs to join in .
