I guess its all down to who's serving and what mood they're in.
However they should realise that they are not the only cs and people if they have a bad experience will not normally return there.
Word of mouth travels fast, esp if people are unhappy.
Having said that I've had good experiences in all of the chain :D

I am a New Yorker who has visited Amsterdam six times, so I feel I am qualified to give my 2 cents worth. Here goes:

My favorite shop though has to be Rokerij II on Singel. The thing that really makes this place special is the windowed seating area in the front, where you can puff while watching the passerbys through the large windows. This place is literally a two-minute walk from Centraal Station, which is why it is always my first stop. Menu is always solid, the Royal Skuff is a really nice, mellow blonde hash to get things started after arriving from a long trip. They have an African theme going on, with colorful tapestries and tribal masks on the walls- very cool stuff. Watch out though, this place is so damn relaxing that you might pass out in there if you're jet-lagged or something. I recommend Rokerij II very, very highly.

Looking forward to hearing what all of you think...

Got some of their fabled White Shark last week from the one on the Singel- nice weed, nothing exceptional.
As for the place itself, I love it- lovely location, and if you're lucky enough to get a seat at the front, its great for people watching.
If you don't, be warned that they don't have conventional seats, but low down cushions and tables!

I've only been in the 1 on Singel as I recall. Have to say I was well impressed with the look and feel of the place. We had seats at the front at the windows (which felt strange for some reason) as it was fairly early in the morning and there was very few people in there at that time. But there seemed to be quite a few people coming and going after there buys.

The place gave me a good vibe and in time I'm sure this place may well make it into my top 5 coffeeshops if the next trip I go there feels the same!.

As it's been said a good mix of people in here due to it's location. Loved the view out of the window too. Possably a well underated place on the view front alone?.

Visited two Rokerij`s on my last trip to Amsterdam. Both places were very good. Friendly staff, quality products, nice atmosphere and good music. It does not get much better than this, i think. We probably spent the most time in Rokerij II on Singel near Central Station of all coffeeshops we visited.

They dont have a tobacco section yet, but they wont give you a hard time if you mix your smoke in tobacco as long as they dont see you doing it. You can roll a spliff with tobacco inside the coffeeshop, but just keep your pack of sigarettes hidden in your bag or pocket and its all good.

I think this was the best policy on the smoking ban i saw in the coffeeshops.

This is an excellent tip - thanks man! I'm going this weekend and it's good to know firstly that some places are already installing 'tobacco sections' and that some will also turn a blind eye if you're nicely discreet.

Don't suppose anyone else knows any places you can happily drink and smoke with tobacco these days... I'll be there on Fri! (not gloating... honestly!)

Every trip i take i visit the singel shop without fail. Like the staff as they always ask me for I.D then nearly pass out when they see my date of birth. I have met many people from all over the world in this shop and mainly come for the NL5 Haze but just lately i have got the taste for there Riffman Dunya.
Its always an enjoyable visit even if i have to show I.D and take my hat off.
You gotta love it :D

As I said in another post, these are my favourites for the atmosphere.

Rokerij I - The best one. Pretty dark. You can forget completely the world outside. Nice places to sit down and just chill. Trippy fans. And in the evening a DJ that makes really nice music.

Rokerij II - Great too. You have to sit down on the right side when you come in, so that you can get lost in that big painting. Once I interpreted it as the different stages of being stoned... Better go there in the evening, as the chaning light effects are incredible.

Rokerij III - The cathedral. Nice idea, but too small. The atmosphere is not as good as in the first two

Rokerij IV - Hard to find. Nice, but something is missing there compared to the other ones. It doesn't have that unique atmosphere. Just the very colourful toilet is amazing. When I was there, I thought I would be a character in a cartoon.

The Rokerji's in the Leidesplein area has a nice ambience and a friendly staff. My partner and I toked a bit over the line and the bouncer helped us down with a bit of chocolate and a cup of warm sugar water. I would recommend it for it's helpful staff. :D
