I like this thread.
Some more: American / British
"fuck the shit out of"/"smash the granny out of"
"there's a line at the door"/"there's a queue at the door"
"she's hot"/"she's fit"
noggin/canister as slang for head
While I'm at it, can someone here give me a discourse on what a 'whitey' is exactly. I've never heard this term here in the U.S. and I've gathered it means something along the lines of THC-induced unconciousness. Is that pretty much it?

A whitey is more the result of chemical reactions in the bloodstream after too much THC which in turn causes the face to grow pale and brings on cold feverish sweating. Vomiting is common during the experience and blackouts have been known to happen as well in extreme cases.d3lt4-9 wrote:While I'm at it, can someone here give me a discourse on what a 'whitey' is exactly. The person's condition quickly returns to normal afterwards.

A dual carriage is something completely different mateDoctorJim wrote:Some of my favorites:711 wrote:And then there's some everyday things like trainers, and one I jsut learned from Rez, lorry.
What else is there?
Americans Rent things, the English Hire them
Americans travel on highways, in England they are motorways and further north dual carriageways.
English cars have bonnets and boots, American have hoods and trunks. And tyres instead of tires. If a car breaks down Americans call a Tow Truck, in England you call a Rescue. The mechanic won't be wearing Coveralls in England, it will be a Boiler Suit.
Americans enjoy Home Improvements if they are Handymen, The English are D-I-Y (Do It Yourself) enthusiasts. Americans Paint their walls, the English apply Emulsion. Americans consider a strip of ceramic tile around the bathtub an average project, the English tile the entire room floor to ceiling in a day.
Americans visit the Doctor's Office, in England you visit their Surgery. If an American wants a Flu Shot in England you ask for a Flu Jab. If you need to see a Specialist, in England they are called Consultants. When you are seriously injured you don't go to the Emergency Room, you visit the Casualty Ward.
Americans press the Elevator button, in England you "call the Lift".
The only drawback to learning all the correct terms is that the longer you spend there the more "English" you speak when you return home.
