Yes, indeed. The original Barney's is still open, as is the non-coffeeshop Barney's next door to the original. Derry is expanding his empire....

The new one is where coffeeshop Jamaica used to be (you can look this up on the directory on this site).
Address is Reguliersgracht 27. Reguliersgracht is the canal running north/south directly south of Rembrandtplein. This canal is famous for it's 7 identical bridges - most of the tourist boats will bring you there.

Menu in the new one appears to be identical to the old. Burmese haze is my tip, but it is pricey at €10.50/g

It's open alright.

But the opening (esp. kitchen opening) hours at the original Barney's & the cafe have always been a bit erratic. Maybe you went by on a random early closing day?

It was closed when I went too and I hit it around noon. Shrugs. :D I just strolled over to Stix, so no loss.

I've been a big fan of Barney's in the past but my last two trips to Amsterdam have changed my opinions.

The weed and hash is usaually of a good standard but has become over priced due to its hyped up cup awards.

Ended up waiting nearly an hour for an over priced cold bacon sandwich and a drink.

I'd agree that they have become too commercial and it isn't somewhere i'll get my breakfast again but i will call back to buy something to smoke if it looks up to standard. All shops seem to struggle to keep their strains constantly up to standard all the time.

Still got to recommend the Caramella and the Love Potion.

Barney's is good for ONE THING

Post by weedman »

Hello. I have been to Barneys a few times, and the first thing I would suggest is to make sure you go into the correct BARNEYs. I noticed
it mentioned in earlier posts, but make certain to go into the shop that
is NOT on the corner.

Once inside, the weed is above average for Amsterdam, but not top quality. The good thing about Barney's is that is opens really early.
This is good if you take an over night flight from US, and arrive in Amsterdam sometime in the earlier morning (7-8 am).

The breakfast is much like what American's are used to, not coffee and brick of bread, but eggs, hams, etc. the works. After eating, you can smoke OR NOT. Personally the weed there is at best above average.
Caveat: this opinion is from someone who smokes regularly.

However, for what it provides, (good breakfast and good smoke) during the wee-hours of the early morning, it can't be beat.

Now, if we are talking about STRONG weed, look for 222, but that
is another review.

I've never been to Barney's before, so it was my 2nd priority to visit the place.

I went to the Barney's just down the road over the bridge from the Bushdocter (Thorbeckeplein). It was empty when I got there at about 4pm and was greeted by Derry the owner.
The menu was nice with the average price for weed and hash.
I tried out the Willie Nelson and Love Potion #1 and to be honest, the Willie Nelson was not really spectacular or impressive especially when it won the Cannabis Cup. The Love Potion #1 was something though.

The place was quite small but a nice environment. Had a milshake. And yes, this place is not bad to hang out for an hour or two.

I'll give this place an 8 out of 10.

i've always liked Barneys because it opens early and it
serves a decent breakfast. the smoke was good (not great), and again,
despite, some of the reviews to the contrary, the place
is not a bad hangout.

Was there a few years back. The dealer was rude as hell. Of course it could be that having a U.S. accent he found me offensive. The Barney Rubble was fantastic, the Amnesia Haze not so great. In terms of good gear and a good time give me a day stumbling between The Grey Area and Amnesia anytime!! Even considering the prick behind the counter at Barney's the waitress at their brasserie was a real sweetheart. Very friendly and tried to give me my money back saying I had tipped her too much. Since then I'll eat in the restaurant but consider myself much better off procuring smoke elsewhere!!!

i went in several times on my recent trip. i found that after the breakfast rush is the best time to go. the budtender was very friendly and even offered up some of his personal homegrown for me to vaporize. i did have breakfast twice, once the lady completly forgot my order and got my friends order wrong. the food itself was good, i had the blt, think it was 5.75e and i think well worth it. the drinks tended to be expensive but i guess that is to be expected. i recommend the red diesel, it was 11e a gram. it would produce a extremly tasty bag of vapor at temp number 4.

Been to 'Dam 5-7 times but never went to Barney's

I assume the breakfast is only "free" if you buy weed there?

When I was at the original Barney's last October 28 I asked if it was okay to smoke my weed at the Barney's restaurant on the corner. He told me that I could smoke a joint there but that the cops had been around and asked that people no longer smoke pipes there or pull out their weed or hash and "play" with it. I stayed in the original Barney's because I like to spread out my lighter, my pipe, my weed or hash on the table in front of me when I'm in Amsterdam, or when I'm at home for that matter. I had been to the place on the corner the previous July and smoked a pipe at one of the outside tables on a beautiful sunny day so the policy is a new one. I guess this goes along with the idea of trying to get smokers to be more discreet.

:D Barneys can suck my ass. I walked in the door with my friends from Paraguay and the uptight haggard woman at the door stopped us from going any further and told us to leave. I hadn't even set both feet in the place yet and I was being told, not asked, to leave? Okay? Why was that? Was it because you had a ten inch metal rod jabbing you up the colon? I understand that it may have been crowded but there was room. We were nothing but polite as we smiled on our way out. Fuck you Barney's. I hope you guys close down. I'll come back and piss on you as you unload your tables and chairs as well as shit in your kitchen. :D
I step on your feet and don't apologize. You need to hurry your ass up.
