Lafe, have you taken tram and had problems or are you curious? Used it extensively on my last 2 visits and went all over w/little or no problems.

Actually, I'm the Tram King :-)

I buy multiday passes. 3 days for 13 Euro, that works for me. I take trams everywhere unless it's a short walk. I probably walk miles daily in the 'dam, but ride quite a bit as well. And I don't stay in Centrum all the time.

Doog was "reluctant" to try the tram, so I gave him all the info he needed to do it and was curious if it actually happened. Hell, the worst that can happen is you end up somewhere you didn't intend to be and you cross the street and catch it back the other way :-)

regarding Amnesia - look for a small street called Bergstraat between the Singel and Herengracht canals.
Amnesia is on the corner of Bergstraat and Herengracht and it has entrances from both...good luck u will love it there!

Yeah man you found Grey Area right?!?!? If you are facing Grey Area head up Herengracht (canal on your left) one block and its on the corner. If you go up Singel (canal on your right) its quite subtle...I missed it the first time going that way, but I found Siberie instead that trip, which was nice!

I came away "needing" to go back because there were places I didn't manage to get to... in retrespect, not such a bad thing really

This is Doog reporting from Amsterdam on a wet and windy Saturday morning to bring you the highlights from Friday.

After posting my update. I went out and came across Prix D'Ami down a lil sidestreet off the Damrak. Went in for a coffee and looked at all the big mostly empty tables and sat down to start smoking away my stash.

Took out the cone roller for a big ground up cherry bomb fatty and sat there just driftin away. No hassles and no need to buy any smoke.

The shop was now filling up and I decided to make my move towards Nes. Yes DC was there, yes he did have the book and yes I did sign it and mine was the first entry. Must say that DC picked out a nice style of book (kinda like a bible) with hard black cover and lil strip so you can remember how far in you are.

Was smokin and chatting away with a few drinks as well for about four hours then I decided to take a little break and head back to the hotel for a freshen up before heading out again for a few liquid refreshments.

Nes is definitely a place I will go back to before my time here reaches an end. It's a great little coffeeshop with a great atmosphere and never any hint of trouble and the toilets are easy to get to.

Abraxas is maybe a bit too bright and colourful for my liking and the winding staircase to the toilets is a nightmare when stoned.

Sensi Coffeeshop is a good idea and if you keep the drinks orders coming then you'll be fine smoking away in there.

Pink Floyd is one shop that I had been to before and it was the same as I remember it. Great service, great sounds.

Greenhouse Centrum probably wins the smoke of the trip award for the Silver Pearl and was also a good place to hang around if you get a seat (even had tables and chairs outside).

Please don't ask me to list the other smokes in order of preference. I just know that Silver Pearl was the best of the lot. All the other smokes were in joint second place.

That answers my question Doog "it's all good isn't it?"

Nice one Doog, sounds like your'e really getting into the pace of 'Dam now.

Do try to make it to the Heineken museum, a great place to wind away a couple of hours with a few beers thrown in for the 10 Euro entrance fee. As well as the free gift of a Heineken souvenier glass in a presentation tin. Then maybe try Mellow Yellow coffeeshop when you come out.

Good to hear you have made the first entry in "The Book" I will be there at the end of June to add my name.

Say Doog, I was going to check out the window seat at Sensi Coffeeshop on my next trip and do some people watching but from what you've written it sounds like they hassle you if you don't keep ordering drink after drink. Is that correct? I probably wouldn't be spending more than an hour there. A coffee and a tip sounds reasonable to me for that amount of time.

Great reports man. I'm going to definately sign the book at Nes when I get there.

Hi Doog, each reporter brings their own twists and turns to the story of venturing out in A'dam. I enjoyed your reports.

I probably just sound like a parrot, but add my voice to the group that likes to hear about all the ups and downs of a trip. It's real, and it does happen to everyone, in some form or another.

Here is my bit of girl scout advise for dealing with beggers, and any other persistant types -

If someone approaches me, and they do catch my eye (avoiding eye contact lets you march right on by), I put a very weird look on my face, and give them a slightly bizarre look. Most people scuttle away right then. No one really wants to deal with someone that looks a little bit crazy or daft.

If they are still trying to get my attention, I will begin slowly and quietly barking at them (woof, woof - arf,arf - dog sounds). That usually does the trick and I am down the road laughing by the time they figure out that they have been scammed.

If anyone *bumps* into me - not the accidental kind - but the let's-see-if-I-can-distract-you while I feel in your pockets type of bump -- I start spinning around. One or two spins will do it. Again, they seem to think I am, um, unbalanced, and they back off.

Well, you won't get this kind of advise in a guidebook, but it has worked for me all over the US, Europe, and Mexico. Of course, it does help that I am a bit crazy.
