The subject still seems to be quite fluid. As an outsider I can't truly understand the problems shops cause or be convinced that the only solution is a tourist ban. I've been to NL many times & have never seen any trouble inside/outside a cs. One time I remember a guy rolling up on a scooter at a cs...he came inside with a bag...sat at a table...pulled out a huge slab of hash...showed it to the tender and left. I was trying to mind my own business; so can't say I saw an exchange of cash or heard any of the conversation, but it was quite low key in terms of an exchange. The only time I've seen any real trouble was walking around in the RLD and some drunk dudes were yelling/pushing. Some locals appeared to step in & told them to knock it off....it kinda ended right there. I'm not suggesting that problems don't occur, but rather the problems/concerns are exagerated to some extent and many are alcohol related. When i travel, I think of myself as an ambassador for my country. I act appropriately, knowing I'm a guest in the host country and try to fly under the radar...it's my no drama rule. Anyone that chooses to travel with me is asked to act the same. 17 trips under the belt with zero problems. If it's the younger kids causing the issue then whey not raise the age to something like 25, where people are more mature for the most part. Why penalize shop owners & responsible tourists for the acts of a few. If it's the backdoor policy of drug runners/organized crime then let the shop owners grow their own gear. There has to be a better way for the Dutch to address their concerns...imo.

The EU leaned on NL to close the coffeeshops, but more specifically the border countries of France and Germany. They would have made same the pressure if the EU never existed/

I do know enough to tell that at a certain point it wont matter who is in charge anymore. I might not care about dutch political parties (their programs in particluar) but that doesnt mean that I dont know about the dutch society. Imo the pressure from France and Germany could have gone on for 100 more years, but without EU backup they couldnt put pressure on. As a native German I am not that far from the melting pot...

Alchahol is the problem with incidents in Amsterdam, I have seen several fights where alchahol is concerned in Amsterdam but only fight I ever saw in a cofeeshop was once when a guy came into Dampkring and attempted to run off with a jar of buds and once when a budtender tried to cheat some local and then a huge argument started.
Marco, are you saying you believe that if new elections are held there will be no change to the cofeeshop scene?? Really interested in the local view on this.
I guess I can see the changes as being neccessary for the border towns but to roll it out in the whole Netherlands seems overkill.
I also know it was a popular topic in Birdy's and other cs's when I was there in feb 2012. The locals were really against the new limits as far as having to register and having the shops track their purchases. They were planning some sort of rally I believe...
BTW I know zero about politics in AMS.

I'm just back from the dam today.. Of all the locals and BTs I spoke to, the general feeling is one of doom and uncertainty.. No one could say for certain if it will be or not and budtenders are unwilling to commit to a negative outcome but everyone is uneasy about what the future is going to bring either way especially the shop owners/budtenders

So from that link it looks like the earliest this will be implemented in amsterdam is 1 January 2013. Is that right?

Just kinda scared that it is being brought in on 1 May in the south....

Definitely being brought in on 1st May in the south - places like Breda, Tilburg, etc. From what I've heard the shops are mainly all set up for it down there already with barriers and the like.

It's Amsterdam and others that seem to be 1st January 2013.

As soon as this happens... As soon as Amsterdam itself is coffeeshop free... I'm going to go there with as many people as possible, get drunk and act like a dick!!! I suggest you all do the same!

Interesting if all Amsterdam CS did this. The project would just fold.
Laws only work if their wanted. Realise that some want this around Netherlands
but not so in the Dam.
Think they should all just not comply...
Dress it up as a civil liberties issue and conspicuous discrimination of non-Dutch people...

Think they have to just not comply. They wont be able to stay in business with a limit of 2000 members, and no foreigners allowed.
