People in the south of the Netherlands who wish to continue buying soft drugs in their local cannabis café have to request official council papers to prove they officially live in the Netherlands, the Telegraaf reported on Sunday.
Local councils are gearing themselves to cope with thousands of requests for proof of residency ahead of the May 1 deadline for the introduction of special passes in Maastricht, Eindhoven and the rest of the south.
In Eindhoven, for example, the city’s 15 cannabis cafes or coffee shops expect to cater to 40,000 clients. Breda expects some 8,000 requests for print outs from the city council official residents' register.
The government is forcing towns and cities in the south to become closed-members clubs in an effort to reduce drugs tourism. Coffee shops will be limited to some 2,000 members, who must officially live in the Netherlands.
The rest of the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, will follow next year.

As of right now Limburg, Zeeland and Noord Brabant will implement the Wietpass starting May 1st. So you would have to head to Dordrecht, Rotterdam, or Nijmegen.

Thanks guys, however I am fully aware of the restrictions that are comming in, what I am asking for is any information comming out of the coffeeshops in zeeland and noord Brabant as to how they will react to it.
Will the coffeeshops ignore the law?
will it be closely policed by the authorities?
Basically......what are my chances of getting served.....?
I know the rumours and rhetoric comming from the online world but does anyone have any first hand info, have you asked in the shops in these provinces?

Ok ,sorry if I got the wrong impression. You seem to love the dam as much as any of us ,s and s. You, also, seem very passionate about this issue,as one would expect. Passive in reference to being non-violent is greater but we need to be more aggressive when it comes to demanding our rights. It is kind of shameful the way we are bulldozed worldwide for having the nerve to get intoxicated using a method other than the state approved alcohol route
The problem is that I think the government is well aware how much this will cost them, and they just don't care.
Marco , one reason they don't care is because the loss of revenue to stoners is no big deal to them as they will just grab the real estate and put in some new attraction . If you keep many of the shops in place there is a good chance they lose the replacement revenue..beloved me they want to get rid of those coffeeshops

Another reason they don't care is because we are not assertive enough..they don't see a coordinated effort to strike at them.I say boycott the hell out of products that they produce. If this does not change their mind it will surely make others understand we will try to bring pain to those who would fuck with us. Judging by the passive reactions by the ACD members I would say we are destined to keep taking it in the backside worldwide.
And we deserve it.

On the plus side this might give me an excuse to take 2 trips this year and move up the plans to move to Holland..I knew my wifes European citizenship might come in handy one day

Which is precisely why I showed the letter above in the hope some of us could be more assertive.
We need to be tougher like those in other countries who don't take things lying down and give a fight.

I do not think money has any thing to do with it now, it is all about power and control and pushing an agenda down the throats of the public. However prohibition is an ugly, expensive beast to unleash on a free society. I believe it will fail and have booked my hotel for April 2013.

It seems to me that we have heard all the possible predictions on the eventual outcome of the pass.
NONE of us KNOW what will happen, we can't see the future.
So,
Instead of continuing to speculate, which has undoubtedly created some negative vibes.
Why don't we turn this thread into a "what can I do to help" thread?
Or something else that might help change the outcome, something positive?

Not sure why some get offended and angry because of the wietpas discussion..
Weed in Amsterdam is the main reason for this website afterall and the wietpas definatley has to do with weed in ams.
I for one hopes it will be repelled once street dealing and loss of income is realized. I have been going to Amsterdam as a weed tourist for 20 years now. I would not go back and spend my usual 3-5000 euro per trip again if it is implemented. I have seen every museum and attraction that interests me.
BTW is there another election before implementation of wietpas?

I'm with you BDH. While I only started visiting AMS in the past two years, I haven't been to any museums, even the ones that interest me
Since I usually drive, all I need is a few days notice if the wietpas is implemented. I will miss my (every 4- 5 month) AMS visits. But it won't be that big of a tragedy for me. I could actually use the break. This was one of the reasons why I couldn't settle down in that island paradise known as Hawaii, too much weed (albeit indica, I'm realizing)
I've had a little of the AMS experience and this site has enlightened me so much. It would be nice to meet some of the personalities here over a bowl or joint, and get more enlightenment or perhaps even entertainment.
I don't understand why politicians would want to mess up what makes AMS special to the world.
Take away weed, and well, what does AMS have that will make it different from any other European city?
I guess I'll be researching which European cities to visit when the wietpas happens.

I'm no expert in NL or AMS politics. Perhaps the passivity can be explained by the fact that members of this site are not NL/AMS residents or voters. I'm surprised that the names of those who want to change AMS weed laws aren't mentioned. If they are elected officials, then maybe the voters can vote them out. If they are not elected officials then heaven help us. How does that happen? And I wouldn't know what to boycott.

While I'm not a big fan of the UN (they like to bite the hand that feeds them, overpaid bureaucrats, and incompetent peacekeepers) I can get behind this.
This might even make the UNESCO brand relevant.
It seems like a humorous & bizarre process to keep an industry legal.
But hey, I'm not the Educational, Scientific, Cultural scholars that these guys are... and if it works, we all win.

Maybe it would be a good idea to discuss what we can do to help. The idea of writing a letter is a good one if enough people do it. Maybe some kind of Facebook campaign page?
If the ban comes in and is enforced then it will not be so easy to dismantle the framework of oppression. Remember there is an industry involved with suppression, enforcement and punishment. These industry leaders are a strong and established group. Much more powerful although somewhat less numerous than stoners
Any physical protest needs to be Dutch driven IMHO
IMHO a better idea than a protest would be countermeasures pushed through the usual channels by an established industry. There needs to be an industry driven response before the general public can join in besides letter writing and discussing strategies on forums like these.
In the end the industry will only gain legitimacy by paying politicians. ie - lobbying. This costs a lot of money.
Anyone willing to volunteer?

So as a foreigner visiting Eindhoven, u wont be able to buy from the coffee shops there after May 1st. So what happens if i buy 5g in Amsterdam before heading to Eindhoven. Am i still allowed to carry 5g with me?
