Was on a quick surprise visit to Amsterdam today, and decided I'd take the opportunity to buy some connoisseur weed for the very top drawer of my stash, as while weed in Groningen is good if you know where to buy it, it's not quite as good as in Amsterdam - at least not the Area.

Was full, as usual, as I walked, and the budtender seemed to take forever weighing and bagging the buds (even though he didn't appear to be doing much half of the time, and spoke little as well - maybe he was just stoned?). Eventually got myself 3.5g of Headband (I feel so American, this is the first time I've bought "an eighth"), a gram of East Coast Sour Diesel and a gram of the Kandy Kush. I quickly calculated - still sober, at this point - the price to be 74 euros, but the budtender told me with a smile that the 70 would do.

I've only just got back home and have only barely sampled the Headband, which is excellent, but I will have to conduct more tests. However, I have no reason to expect the other two to disappoint either. At least they smell so good it's almost bad. Or is it the other way around? I'm not even sure. A foul, dank odour has quickly conquered my entire room through the baggies.

But yeah, got what I'm used to always getting at the Grey Area - long queues, very busy, never space to sit, excellent bud, and sometimes freebies if you buy a bit more than the average joe.


At one point I was unsure in which direction exactly we had to go to reach Oude Leliestraat, so we decided to ask a local (quite hard in Amsterdam, even the ones that look like locals are tourists about half of the time). He understood we were visitors, and told us not to go to the Grey Area, and that the Bulldog would get us well high enough. We explained that we were visitors to Amsterdam, yes, but not to the Netherlands, at which point he heartily recommended we go precisely there.

Kandy Kush and ECSD both also confirmed to be worth your money. Both have a real distinct, strong, pleasant taste, and a nice balance of spacey head high and dopey body stone.

Echo what Spacefunk said, both the ECSD and Kandy Kushes are fantastic smokes with a really vigorous taste.

I find the Grey Area completely lacking in gezellig.

The ECSD I got from there last week is Epic. Hybrid heaven

This is true. Gezelligheid is far from Grey Area - even if it were dead empty I wouldn't sit down for a smoke, I'd buy and fly, and I always find the service quite slow so it's jam-packed with people queueing to buy weed.

I usually pick up at least half of my weed from the 'Dam from the Grey Area, but never do I go there to smoke. I have never made a disappointing purchase from the Area though, and some of the highlights have been able the match the best homegrown herb I've smoked anywhere, so I guess that's why I keep coming back!

Grey Area was exactly how I expected, really busy but understandably for the nice bud. I went in just after it opened and it was already packed. Purchased the Hawaiian Haze which was incredible, probably one of my favourite strains of the trip. Couldn't really complain about the budtender, I got what I wanted quickly although he was busy. We ended up buying from grey area and walking down to Paradox to chill.

I'd say they have the best selection of strains, alongside gp, but the quality isn't always the best. It's usually good though.

...what did you buy that was substandard? You are right to say each to their own but Christ mate you are avoiding some strains that really should be tried and loved...e.g. the kush, the casey jones, LAConfidential, the nepalese hash and the legendary Golden Soles hash, these are all loved by many of us year in year out so just in case you have got unlucky with shit batches or whatever please do yourself a favour and try some of the A1 strains we all go back year after year for...oh and Ive only ever sat in there twice in dozens of visits, horrible to sit in with tourists staring in and pointing, its a buy and run quality dope dispenser (unless they see Bonglord coming, then they whip out all their ropey old tourist shit weed just to spite him)

I sattled down one time and it wasn't that bad, it was unique for sure..

BUT Look at the BUDS!

I'd like to change my vote to no. Sour Cream in 06 was amazing and loads of others but last two trips ive looked at half the menu, bought 3/5g and been very disappointed especially when paying up to E16.50 per g. This trip silver bubble was very harsh, exodus cheese looked and smelt terrible, as did the ecsd, headband and something else. Golden haze E11.50 was ok but nothing special. Quaze was quaze and Chocolope had a nice tang but no high. Before it was my must go to shop, not any more.
