No law has passed that tourists wont be able to by weed in amsterdam
An owner of a coffeeshop just told us that tourists WON'T be able to buy weed in Amsterdam from Jan 2013. How is this so difficult to understand?

He was told this by the mayor of Tilburg - do you think that its some sort of practical joke or something? Laws change in countries all the time - there's nothing particularly surprising about it. No offense, but you're coming across as one of these conspiracy theorists who rant on about the kennedy assasination / alien landings etc. The point is, that unless you actually have evidence to back up what you say, you end up coming across as a crank. And as I already pointed out, you don't have ANY evidence at all. So you're simply rumour mongering and making the situation worse than it already is. This wouldn't matter so much, perhaps, but I would imagine that its infuriating for people like N, who actually work in this industry, understand this situation better than you and I ever will and are worried about losing his livlihood. This situation doesn't matter to you at all, really, but it does matter to him, so maybe show some respect and actually read what he said in the last few posts...
You do not have any evidence that dam will not serve tourists weed as of Jan 2013 because there is none. It is proposed, and things get proposed all the time.
The evidence i have is in the law and the fact that it has not changed affecting Amsterdam!

Boner mentions the 1st jan 2013, but no law is coming in on that date. it will be discussed this year but nothing has been agreed.
Well the coffee shops in Amsterdam are certainly concerned about it even if you're not. When in Grey Area on 2nd January this year the guys there said the new law would be in effect in 2013.

Yes they seem so concerned...... I find the 2015 bit really interesting...

The official opinion of grey area, from the last week!

For starters I think that any Grey Area stuff is fan run and not them, secondly they keep going back to their statement from Novemeber last year, Nol van Schaik (who owns 2 coffeeshops) is more in the know than any of us and he's obviously worried.

The last good news were that there wouldn't be changes in Amsterdam until 2015. Somehow that point seems to be void with the latest discussions. There is no reliable evidence to prove that the pass won't be in effect in Amsterdam. Would be nice if somebody could prove me wrong!
Big up to Nol for the great insights. Wish we would see more coffeeshop owners stand up the way you do.
p.s. My opinion about the weed pass is simple. I think it fucking sucks!

Insurance companies are already planning to raise the health insurance premium for those who register as a DRUGS USER in a coffeeshop, etc.....
can you smell the sting?
So it will really be limited to Dutch passport holders, and will exclude EU citizens who have the IND residence sticker in their passport (not to mention non-EU citizens who have the IND sticker).
FIrst i have heard of that.
Hey Marco,
I have one of those stickers in my passport but it will be removed once I'm issued my German/EU residency card, which is taking forever to be issued. It's the same card as citizens have but with the obvious differences. It's a new EU thing, everybody will eventually be getting them.
You are a resident of The Netherlands, so you and others in the same boat "should" be fijn... let's hope.
If the Dutch-only policy comes into full effect, meaning covering the entire country, so be it. I feel for those who make their living working in the cannabis industry, but if this is the will of the people... Doesn't make it right, it just is...
Happy trails...

You are wrong boner, greyarea facebook is grey area shop not some unofficial fan run website, the simple reason why they go back to novembers statement is that since then there is no new news on the subject. As soon as there is news regarding amsterdam grey area and others will share it.
Check grey areas homepage, it links to
their facebook and twitter.
I agree Nol Van Schaik will know more than us as to what is happening in Haarlam and the rest of the country, but I havent discussed haarlam I will leave that to Nol because he will know more.
But please everyone stop worrying about Amsterdam, at the time of writing there is nothing to worry about, as grey area and other coffeshops have stated the very earliest any ban could come in is 2015 for amsterdam but they doubt any ban will come in then anyway.

Hi Ron.
I think we are referring to different stickers. I actually have an EU-passport and theoretically all EU citizens are supposed to get a sticker from the IND once they move to NL. I just got mine after 3 years here, so its clearly not mandatory.
I understand that the EU court rules that the Dutch CAN exclude non-residents under the EU treaty since weed is technically illegal. However, I wonder if that applies to EU citizen residing in NL (or non-EU citizens for that matter).

Does not prove a thing. Regardless, I seriously doubt the guys who own GA are going to go on record having a website or FB of any type, considering the limits around advertising and coffeeshops.
