Train, shuttlebus or even taxi if you're feeling flush.

The easiest/cheapest way is via the train which just happens to be underneath the airport and takes you directly to Amsterdam, just buy a single ticket at the ticket desk and ask which platform the train departs from, it takes approx 18 mins and will cost you €3.80.

Tell your work mates they're idiots.

Cheapest way, train straight to central station, costs a few Euros.

I personally always take the hotel shuttle (mini bus), takes you from the airport directly to your hotel/hostel (any central hotel/hostel), costs 14 Euro.

I can't disagree with that. Take the train, it is also very easy to find at the airport. Your best way to go for sure.

Always use the train. Can't find any reason at all to do otherwise.

If you have a lot of luggage and your hotel is off the beaten track then the shuttle bus (if it goes to the hotel you're staying at) is a godsend.

10 Euros more than the train (+ no walk from train to hotel) is not a lot to pay for a door-to-door service.
Worth every penny in my opinion.

I use the train, really nice train ride in. Some interesting graffiti if you like a bit of graf.

Dead easy to get your bearings too if you arrive on the train.

If you don't get your ticket before you get on the train I believe you can be fined. But you can't miss the ticket stand in the airport, then you just head down the stairs to your platform and wa la.

In any type of traffic the train will be much faster than a car...if you need to be in the center.

If you are unsure about buying tickets from the machine all the staff at the ticket counter opposite Burger King speak english, no need to be shy, just ask for a return to central station.

If you are staying a few days you could always buy one of these -

I did post a demo of using the ticket machines a long time ago but cannot seem to find it in the search. It was quite cool practicing getting your ticket whilst planning your trip.

Have a great time.

Edit - found the link in one of Boners posts. http://webdemo.ns.nl/webdemo.e2000/

Nope... thats not the ticket machine for Schipol to Central hmmmm It;s on here somewhere.
