Last month the FDA said it does not support marijuana for medical use.
This month the FDA approves synthetic marijuana treatment.

Seems to me that the FDA still does not TOTALLY support the use of marijuana for medical purposes (especially in terms of smoking as this means that the majority of people would probably buy from a dealer, so this does not benefit the US economy in any way and takes up extra police time as they try to chase down and arrest the dealers.)
The growth of the marijuana used for the new treatment will no doubt be strictly controlled and monitored by the FDA and any other federal department that needs to be involved.
What they are doing is merely extracting the active ingredient from the plant and obviously using the ingredient in some sort of pill form for ingestion and not inhalation.
I think it is a good idea that people WHO NEED the drug can now have access to it without the need for smoking or for visits from the local police.
I suppose all you tokers out there will still be keeping an eye out for the cops, but while you are please remember to smoke one for those less fortunate than yourselves who will now be able to have better control over the side effects of what is a very severe course of treatment (chemotherapy)
Ole Dubya's not all bad after all.

no offense there Doog but i think you totally missed the point here.
First this drug has nothing to do with real/live marijuana. The pills contain a SYNTHETIC cannibinoid. Meaning it is made from chemical in a chemical factory, not grown and cared for.
The FDA, DEA and all the other govt. agenices are stictly, ignorantly, arrogantly, and blatantly opposed to real world research with real marijuana. The are opposed to this because they are paid to be against it. "Big Pharma" is one of the real controlling factors of our country, and THEY are the ones that don't want marijuana legalized in any form, particularly medically. Vaporizing real quality marijuana is clearly a better alternative for most people that would be prescribed this drug, but the govt. won't even allow the research that could clearly PROVE this. Instead they line their pockets with money from "Big Pharma" and go vacation with Dipsh...errr Dubya at the ranch.
Ole Dubya's not all bad after all.
and i hope that was just a joke or something......i won't even get started.
Cliffs notes: This drug is "better than nothing" but a sad step towards what these people really need. The US govt continues to wander around aimlessly in the dark with its head placed deeply up its arse!! And the FDA is a joke!

Hmmmmm. Probably have but I was only drawing my own conclusions after reading up on the Fox and CBS news pages posted by Sonicblue. I always thought that synthetic meant man-made and so that's what lead me to believe that they were extracting the THC from actual plants.

I have to admit that I was being serious here but only in relation to the issue raised by this thread. I can't make jokes about anyone's leader when my country (of residence only) is ruled by Dubya's pet poodle, "President" Tony Blair

On a somewhat related note when the FDA released their recent statement once again that Cannabis has no medical value a few Senators actually asked the FDA this time to present their proof for this statement since it goes completely against what has been proven to a number of countries and US States satisfaction that Cannabis is most certainly a legitimate and useful medicine.
So far of course the FDA has made no reply to their request.

I'm with you, Alaskan Biker! The government continually says that marijuana has no medical value, yet the pharmas are continually trying to make synthetic THC to add to thier "pills". If it *really* doesnt have any medicinal value, then why are they trying to make a synthetic drug out of THC?!? I smell a rat.
"If you cant dazzle them with brillance, then baffle them with bullshit"!
