The Wall - Review Inside ( spoilers )

Post by Iko »

The Wall opened in Toronto this week, seems to be regarded almost unaminously as a somewhat epic 3 night opener.
Really looking forward to Vancouver.
Those who have already seen multiple shows are saying that its a different show depeniding where you are sitting.
My wife and i decided it will not "spoil" anything checking out these vids as it is going to be beyond sensory overload, so atleast you'l be able to grasp what your seeing :

Gillmore will be playing atleast 1 show this Wall tour, hopefully Vancouver but if i had to bet it will be MSG at the show just announced last night.
Adamster you sound like your willing to cut off your nose to spite your face, if your even a small Floyd fan this really is unmissable, you know they are goiing to level Montreal for there show, Montreal is like the old Prog headquaters.

Floyd were one of two bands (Genesis w/ Gabriel being the other) that I wish I'd seen live.

Saw Waters in Manchester a few years ago and the gig was excellent, would love to see one of The Wall gigs but the timing isn't great.

Well, i am still recovering from Friday nights Roger Waters The Wall in Vancouver.
30 years of going to see concerts left me unprepared for what Roger Waters dealt to the sold out croud.
Death, decay, famine, war, despair and isolation were trotted across the wall in in full psychedelic glory.
This is not a fun light hearted affair, this show is seething darkness.
Which makes the few moments of beauty sparkle like diamonds.
The sound was very loud, maybe the loudest concert i have ever been to, with Water's bass literally leaning on my chest.
From our spot dead dead center row 29 the surround sound seemed to be constantly swirling around our heads.
If your even a cursory Floyd fan go check this out, it really is one of those once in a lifetime type of productions, but be careful with your dosage as we definately saw a few casualties including one in our own group  .
Here are a few vids from the show :

Ha ha....yes!

Sounds like a Vegas show....

To put that in context, I simply cannot stand old rockers. I love some of the music, but folks, time moves on! There is tons of new music being made, so I can't quite understand the fascination with multiple nights from a 'band' that was last relevant in the 80s?

I was offering my opinion, don't get snobby. I get it, I have been to loads of Dead shows and all that.

I simply do not see how music moves forward if you are listening to the same band, from shows 30 years ago!

There is great music being made today...and they are taking it to another level that takes effort to find it. When Pink Floyd was relevant, they were innovative and new and they pissed off the older fans of music. How much today is of PF is the light show, videos, etc and how much is actually innovative and forward-looking music?
