Strangest sights you've seen in Amsterdam or the NL

Post by Nimrod »

Amsterdam has a wild side and we've all witnessed some strange things. Let's hear about yours, and if you have photos, all the better.

Queensday 2001 - saw someone board a train, being pulled in head first through the window. It was one of the last trains out of CS until very late due to a mini-riot.

Same Queensday - saw a large boat, the size of a tour boat, steaming IN REVERSE down a major canal. Seemed just a little reckless, as it was going FAST in reverse.

October 2009 - walking from The Noon with smiley420, we get to the intersection of Spiegelstraat and Kerkstraat, where we witness an older gentleman riding a bicycle proceed to hit an invisible brick wall in the intersection and go down like a load of coal. Others attended to him. Maybe he was an attention-whore, a scammer/pickpocket accomplice, who knows, but that was just plain weird.

Either October 2009 or 2010 - saw someone dressed as a cigarette pedaling a bicycle around that was made up to be a giant ashtray. If I ever upload my photos, you'll see that one.

Walking through Dam square with the missus, early winter 2002 I think, saw a nude female, model-type, being photographed in front of one of the lion statues. She wore stripper heels and a long coat, but naked is naked. Through all the other gawkers, I got my poor quality photo, shown.

Was so gobsmacked I never took a photo, my mate and I were hanging around the Leidesplien when an entire band went by on bikes---one guy had a massive double bass strapped onto the back---other guy had a tuba and about seven other guys had various instruments either strapped to their bikes or their backstrailing after them came another twenty or thirty bikes with what were obviously fans all in various states of intoxication, maybe they had just done a gig in a bar somewhere and had another gig somewhere else and the whole caboodle ( good word ) were moving en masse from one gig to another.

2002 - Saw Sinterklaas and his lackey, Zwarte Piet on a motorbike around Spui.

Witnessed the Friday Night Skate a couple times. It's what seems like two hundred mostly in-line skaters plowing though streets on a mapped route, in a long, thin column. Not a mob feel at all. More like a rapid procession.

Watched an asian woman skip across dam square while pushing a goat in a pram.

Been asked by a tramp on warmoestraat if I wanted to buy four cans of coke, or it could of been four grams of coke lol.

watched 4 japanese girls take photos of me in abraxas throwing up, up stair on the 2nd floor.

seen two trannies fighting in the street. My mate nearly pissed himself when one of the trannies wigs came off.

Witnessed a gorilla fuck a woman in the banana bar lol. I was high as a kite, it was so funny to watch.
Next trip 1st August 2015. 2 weeks camping/putting my feet up.

Please say you're not being serious? I just can't believe this -apart from being utterly horrifying it would surely be illegal, no? (

It wasn't a real gorilla, but someone dressed up as one.

on one occasion me and my friend where tripping on shrooms, smoking a few j's on a bench about 3am. we noticed a weird object across the canal and spent a hour or so guessing what it was. we really could not figure out what it was meant to be so we walked over to discover it was a dutch elephant ! the most random thing it could have been! then we went on a walk and kept seeing them, all dressed up in different outfits. it was very funny at the time lol

another time one of them street performers had it in for me. i kept laughing at him and he stared at me, i laughed more, then he got of his step and trudged towards me. i then ran of almost weting me self but fuck me that guy was strange.
