Can anyone tell me what the average exchange rate is in dam at the minute. Post office in the UK here is only offering
1.11 (for under £500)
1.13 (for over £500)
1.17 (if you order online)
They charge no commision

I was trying to understand the Dutch Travelex website, but google translate spat its dummy out.
Basically, am i better changing my money over here in the UK, or when i get there (maybe in the airport)? Any advice, much appreciated,

Good question, is it cost effective to just use our UK cards in the ATM's ?

^^^ Depends on which bank and which card you've got. Works out best for me to use atm w/ creditcard, I get bank rate so 1.20 at the mo and pay 1% interest. Look on moneysaving expert for the best way to spend money abroad.

btw 1.11 at the post office is scandalous when the tourist rate stands at 1.16/1.17.

Im with Halifax and they seem to have the highest charge for using the ATM's outside the UK, typical
We have a account with Barclays and if i order Euro's via them its commission free, so looks like a massive wad of Euro's it is then, with a debit/credit card as emergency back up.

my credit card's a halifax clarity (i think) card. have a look best deal out there for foreign cash.

Tourist rate is what the bureau de change/travel agents charge. It's usually 2-3 cents less than the bank base rate.
It's the commission the post office and all the other travel agents are charging you even though they don't charge commission

Go to somewhere like Cash Cheque Centre their pissing all over the likes of Tesco etc at the moment I got 1.17 last week

Got to agree with Cisco here, i change my money online through a broker with the Change Group(1.17 today), i always seem to get a better deal here than anywhere else. Happy Hunting

I got mine from Thomas Cook travel agent for 1.18 (think you get slightly better rates over £500) last Thursday/Friday. Then top up as necessary using hole cash machine, think that bank charges ok rate when I checked last (few years ago tho).

Moving in the right direction at last, the £ is back to 2008 exchange rates, Currently at 1.22 via Thomas Exchange who consistently give high rates - http://www.thomasexchangeglobal.co.uk/e ... -rates.php

Some pundits predict a rise to 1.27 or 1.28 by the summer :

I always get my Euros from these type of places. The rate is always a bit better than anywhere else, and I'd rather get the best deal and get 'up' on my spends.

Yeah - got some silly rates in London £1 = E1.23 got some but think it will get better.
