I used to be an avid golfer and fan, that is until a couple of years ago, and here is why I no longer am...
In recent years, people watching golf from the comfort of their home would notice an infraction and call it in to the tournament officials. WTF????
No other sport, professional or amateur, is this allowed. Imagine the chaos if officials in every sport were to pause the game to review video every time an audience member called in a supposed infraction(s). A few years ago, the National Football League (NFL) instituted video replay, but only under certain circumstances, none of which include off field officiating.
Another example has just made the news - a film editor, while reviewing footage, spotted what looked like an infraction by none other than Tiger Woods. The editor reported the violation to officials, and by the end of the day, Tiger was informed that he will be receiving a two shot penalty. The infraction - when he was removing a twig, the golf ball moved ever so slightly. Imagine the camera shot needed in order for someone to notice this infraction.
Also somewhat disturbing is when I look for stories/reports of these "nannies" reporting rule infractions committed by other professional golfers, there aren't any. I'm not suggesting that no other golfers are being penalized for rule infractions, however... I may be reaching, but I think this stinks of racism. Regardless of Tiger Woods' popularity, nothing else seems to explain the actions of these "nannies", except racism.
Sad...

They have to offer something to attract an audience, and keep them awake. How else are they going to get large numbers of otherwise sane people to spend hours watching someone occasionally hit a ball with a stick?

Also a golf refugee here. For me my motivation is different. Trying to de program myself from things like golf and indeed s It has not been easy. It is tantilizing. A carrot for the middle classes. Behave yourselves. Work hard for the dolts in charge and you can have a chance to play this nice game. It is a nice game too. Like I said. Tantilizing. Buy into the system and all that goes along with it and it can be enjoyed.

Tiger Woods is a twat like most other golfers both pro and amateur. A cheat both on and off the course if he thinks he can get away with it. He is no man of the people. I have some experience of this subject. Do you know who the number one propagator of racist jokes on the PGA tour was before Fuzzy Zoeller took over?

Tiger Woods is no different from 99% of golfers both pro and amateur by the way. Race has nothing to do with it. Complete red herring. The only color that matters with this type of person is the color of money.

Fuzzy made one comment, not sure how that makes him the number one propagator....we dont know whats said in the lockerroom....and Sergio Garcia has made his comments too, some very recent.

My problem with Tiger, he lacks morals....you cant say 99% of the tour is just like him. No way guys like Mahan, Bubba, Phil, Weir, etc cheated on their wives and families....and certainly not like Tiger, a man who paid professional hookers, porn stars for one on one and group sex....not to mention the Sex parties in Dubai and Asian.

Just because someone apologizes, doesnt mean he is sorry. Ive not seen a single ounce of change in Tiger since he was outted. We just talk about his health problems now.

I don't care about Tiger Woods' private life, or anyone else's (family, friends notwithstanding), that's their business.

It's not a matter of making mistakes or willful cheating... it's officiating outside the game that concerns me.
Touching on cheating as it pertains to this latest example, Woods didn't willfully cheat. I'm a golfer and would not have given any thought that the ball moved ever so slightly. If the movement would have been to such an extent where it favored the player, then perhaps a shot penalty is warranted. But how this all came about has gone beyond the reasonable, especially given the comments made in this thread. Nothing to do with the game of golf... prudish judgmental nannies.

There are no replays in golf, no guy in a video booth making corrections.

The home viewer calling in to help fix a missed wrong is exactly what golf is about: not cheating yourself, your opponent, or the game.

If you dont like watching the PGA tour roght now, then you are not a golf fan at all.

Golf has never been more competitive, right now any one of 144 entries could win any given week. Look at how many different major winners there have been since Tigers last major.

I seriously doubt you play the game, or at the least have a passion for it above going out for a round or two a year if any. Part of playing is getting the score right, and challenging yourself to improve...and if your playing partner corrects a score, then thats part of the game...just like the dude at home on his couch.
