Cameras

I'm heading back over in April and I want to buy a digital camera to take along. I have to make it a pocket sized unit, because, if I have to carry one around in my hand I will probably leave it somewhere when I am heavily stoned. If there is one with autostabilization, even better, since my ability to hold it steady is also questionable. Anyone have good results with a camera that fits the bill? I have checked a couple of sites that give reviews, and prices on them seem to be coming down considerably, even the ones with the larger megapixel count. Any recommendations are appreciated.

I've got a Sony Cybershot. Love it, great little camera, has all the features i need, nothing to fancy tho.

In general there are alot of great digital cameras coming onto the market these days for GREAT prices. I am thinking about upgrading to a 7 or 8 MP, since you can get one now for under $300.

Bottomline....hard to go wrong with Sony, Canon, Nikon.

Thanks MAZ. I've seen some of the Sony's advertised for less than $200 including 5 and 6MP devices. Have you posted any pics from your Cybershot on this forum, so I can see what the quality is like?

yep got my Sony right before my trip to the dam in May '05...i believe its a 5.1MP and was just over 300 at the time.

got lots of pics online check the links below;
A-Dam buds
A-dam 'safe' pics
Hot air ballooning pics, cam works great for outdoor long shots as well

after lookin at those pics again, i think i will be hangin onto this cam for awhile longer....no need to drop more cash for 1 more MP, i'll wait til the 10MP's are in the $250 range :P

I see you liked the Grey Area chairs also. Hot air ballooning is great fun. I've pondered a ride over the flower fields in the spring. I would imagine there are several balloons in the Netherlands. Hmmmmmmm.

i think the Cybershot range is pretty broad....mine was one of the lower ones, i think there was even a cheaper one than mine.....and i've been known to search for a deal (can't recall in this case but....).

I have a Canon Powershot A400 3.2Mpix. I bought it in Germany on our last trip for 150E. Small and the auto mode should take care of shaky pictures. I've read Canon has the best optics for the price.

I don't know much about cameras but I know what I like in a picture.

Lot's of people post their pictures on the site below and often note what camera they used. Maybe this will help you decide.

If you can afford it, go for one of these little beauties: Canon Powershot 800 IS:

I have the older non-stabilised model (iXus 700 in UK, different name in US), and I love it. Takes great movies as well as stills. Smaller than a pack of cigarettes, and a nice looker too.

Canon make by FAR the best digital cameras, Nikon are number 2 and no others need apply IMO.

Here's a couple of samples from my iXus
