Planning a little trip in the new year. Possibly flying to paris for a few days then on to Amsterdam.

Is it very easy to get from Paris to Dam? What would be the quickest way?

probably dont need help anymore, but the quickest and cheapest way is by train. raileurope.com sells tickets to dam for about 100 u.s. dollars. check it out for yourself.

well, being french, I can inform you about how to get from your plane seat to your coffee-shop stool rather precisely..

so your flying from the states to Paris if I understand correctly.. that means you'll arrive at Charles de Gaule airport prolly.. well its quite easy to go to the Dam as there is only one type of train that does france -> benelux: the Thalys.
try to do this from your travel agency if you have one, because the smartest way is to take a ticket that does the plane ride + train ride.. its cheaper than taking both separatly. Charles de Gaule airport also includes an international train station. its a bit of a walk through the airport's terminals and all.. but its well indicated..
so yea.. the Thalys from Paris can either go to Brussels, and then off to Germany (Colone); or they go to Brussels and then to the Dam (sometimes even up to Denmark?). Paris - Amsterdam -> 2:30 hours direct. the Thalys ticket isn't very expensive.. between 50 and 70 euros for a one way 2nd class.. approximately

so yea.. try to do this through your travel agency, because otherwise you have to check your arrival time, and then check the trains that concord with it.. its a bit of a pain especially since you may arrive late and all.. if you do it through your travel agency and you arrive less than 20 minutes before the train leaves, then you can get your train ticket refunded by your travel insurance (if you miss your train), whereas if you take them seperatly, travel insurance tells you to bum off..

The Thalys arrives in Central Station in the dam.. and from your train, you can walk about 300 meters to arrive at the counter of some top quality coffeeshops: Barney's, Pink Floyd, the Doors, if you are willing to walk a bit farther, you can even go to Amnesia which is also really nice.

We took the Thalys from Paris (gare du nord --- a big station on the metro) to Centraal Station in Amsterdam. If we had gotten tickets sooner, (like before we left the U.S. instead of the day before at gare du nord) we would have gotten a nonstop train ride which takes 4 hours and 15 minutes. We had a 17 minute stop in Brussels, so I think it took about 5 hours to get from Paris to Amsterdam.
