Day 3 Part One - 02/11/24 - Morning

We wake up around 10, and I shower and head to the Spar to grab breakfast while the Mrs gets ready. I enjoy the last of that beautiful Tropical Runtz by the canal, and we consume the surprisingly good pastries before buying cigarettes at a very nice newsagents on Marie Heinekenplein, and taking the Metro from Vijelzgracht to Centraal. Our destination is Noord and NDSM by way of the ferry, yet another Amsterdam first for me. In a typical blunder I fail to realise there is more than one route, and skip the clearly marked NDSM ferry in favour of one that took us around 30 minutes away.

We enjoy the short journey nonetheless, and I use Google maps to formulate a plan. I was hoping to check out Funny People on this side of the water, but Coffeeshop Noord is only a few minutes away. We see a bus stop in front of us, and the GVB app tells me that a bus will cut 10 minutes off our journey to the docks. Since it is nearby, we start walking towards the coffeeshop via a nice little park. We arrive at CS Noord, your typical Amsterdam Genetics marble dispensary-style affair nestled in a sleepy residential neighbourhood. AG may be a bit gimmicky, but their product has never let me down and the service is always top notch.

I ask to see the Zowahh and the Super Silver Haze. The Zowahh didn't have much of a smell, but the SSH was clearly a prime example of my all time favourite strain. The whiff of lemons and bubblegum smacks me round the face, and I am compelled to buy a gram at €11. I also get an AK-020 weed joint and a White Choco hash joint, both €4 each. I spark the AK on the way to the bus stop, and the joint is actually very tasty, containing more weed than you would think. I make friends with a cat on the way. With a half hour wait for the bus, we discuss either just walking the rest of the way, or waiting. Mrs SB's ankle is still on the fritz, so we opt for the wait and I settle in for a cigarette and a chat.

The bus eventually shows up, by which time we are both starving. Google saves the day again with a fancy brunch cafe on the way to NDSM, and we eat the nicest blueberry and maple pancakes in the world, with coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. The sun is beaming through the glass windows, I'm nicely stoned from the AK, and life is pretty fucking good at that moment. After we leave the cafe, we take a right, and then it's a straight path all the way to the docks.

While a bit of a cliché tourist spot, NDSM is very impressive. The artwork is both plentiful and stunning, and we hang around for a while watching the artists do their thing. We watch as people write graffiti with music blasting from their cars and echoing around the old buildings, enjoying the shockingly nice November weather. We take a look inside the main warehouse, then wander around outside again while I smoke the hash joint from CS Noord. Many pictures are taken, before we find a bench and I roll up the last of the Kosher from Bagheera. I figure out the correct ferry this time, and we make it back to Centraal Station mid-afternoon.

Beautiful.
Whilst I've stayed in the North a couple times I think they both pre-date NDSM. Really must pay a visit.
Love that last photo with the doggo and the cheeky vignette

As I am very greedy I want both pics and report.
But report first please

Day 3 Part Two - 02/11/24 - Afternoon/Evening

We take the Metro from Centraal Station to Rokin, getting off at Dam Square. I ask my non-smoking girlfriend if she fancies another coffeeshop, and to my surprise she says yes. What a legend. I suggest Abraxas, and since it's her favourite shop, she agrees without hesitation. It's busy inside but we manage to get a seat upstairs straight away. I've always rated this place highly; central location, table service, good drinks and no pressure to buy weed. Their souvenir shop next door is also very good, and has a few plants growing behind glass. A coffee for me and a hot chocolate for her, I get stuck into whatever is left of my stash at that point.

Mrs SB, making me proud once again with her cannabis and coffeeshop opinions, asks if we can try some weed with a "fruity flavour". Despite smoking in here many times over the years, I have never purchased anything from the Abraxas bud counter (except a nondescript Skunk preroll in 2014 that was so strong I had to leave the shop, another story). Since this place has had a notable improvement in menu and quality recently, I decide to take a look at the Fruity Jack and the Lemon Cherry Gelato, before buying the latter at €14. I get another couple of drinks from the bar and head upstairs for a joint.

The LCG is nice enough, a fairly kushy/gassy bud, clean and well trimmed. We both noted that while there was a vague aroma of fruity terps in the smell, this most definitely didn't transfer to taste. A relaxing, clear-headed buzz and a decent enough smoke, but not standout and probably not worth the price. We chill for a little while longer, before walking the Leidsestraat and then heading towards Rembrandt Square, stopping in at Hunters Bar for a joint. Incidentally, my right shoe is rubbing against my foot in a strange and very irritating way, an absolute nightmare when you are racking up so many Amsterdam walking miles each day. I want to change into the other trainers I brought, so off we go.

After a couple of hours rest, and of course another LCG joint at the trusty smoke spot, the Mrs declares it is time for our anniversary date. The actual day isn't until the following week, but we are celebrating it tonight as I unfortunately have to work. I ask what she fancies for dinner, and with a knowing smile, she says, "Burger Bar". 13 years together and this is why, no need for a fancy restaurant, just a great burger in good company. We hit the branch next to Easy Times, and after a very enjoyable meal, I want to check out Dampkring and see if my buddy DunkonDank is working, so we stop in.

Before we go inside I try to take some papers out of my backpack when panic sets in: I've left the fucking backpack somewhere. I legitimately run all the way down Leidsestraat and back to Burger Bar, where the waiter is very helpful but informs me there is no bag to be found. I run all the way back to Handboogstraat, thinking I've probably left it on a bench or something. I still have my wallet, so I go into Dampkring anyway. No Dunk to be found, but I have it on his good authority that the Rocky Dennis is always fantastic, and popular among the staff. This definitely seems like it's in the kush family, and what came across to me like strong notes of old school NY Diesel. This is the knockout indica I've been searching for. A gram and €14.50 later, we once again head back to the hotel with fingers crossed that the backpack is there. It's still in the room, safe and sound. Dozy bastard.

Mrs SB is done for the day. I feel bad that our date night has been cut short and ask if I can take her for a drink, but her ankle is wrecked and she gives me her blessing to go back out solo, so I head into the night. I light up a cocktail joint of LCG and Katsu's Honing Pollen, and make the same loop from Terps 2 (full) to Rookies (has some seats). I get a gram of the Alien Cream Cookies at around €14 and settle in for a session. The waiter brings me a water, and I roll up the Rookies bud.

The Cookies lineage doesn't come through in the smell, but more so in the taste. I write in my notebook that the bud is very resinous, with a heavy layer of crystals coating my nose and making me cough. I get a Strawberry Looza and roll up the last of the LCG. I also smoke something else from the stash, but my notes are hazy at this point. I am taking my time with each joint, making sure I stop and smell the roses. I observe the steady flow of people coming and going, both takeaway customers and those at the surrounding tables. A couple of hours dreamily pass by, and I head to Max Euweplien to roll and smoke a joint on the chess tables.

I stroll back to the hotel for around 12:30am and steadfastly craft 3 special spliffs:

1. Alien Cream Cookies

2. Alien Cream Cookies & last of the Honing Pollen

3. Super Silver Haze for my wake and bake

I still haven't touched the Haze at this point so I am eager to wake up already. For now, I smoke joints 1 and 2 down by the canal, and drift off...

Day 4 Part One coming soon...

Top quality TR, this one, mate!

The photos really set off a bit of nostalgia, since I've avoided Adam in the colder months for years, yet always loved the atmosphere; I just hate being cold.

Thanks again... Thoroughly enjoyable read!

The weather was actually surprisingly nice, think we saw about 10 minutes of rain in 5 days, and fairly warm in the sunlight. Had a scarf and gloves but didn't need them. Wrapped up but shivering during those night time joints by the canal though
