Purmerend - Whats the Word on This Town

Anybody ever been to the town of Purmerend?
For those that don't know Purmerend is about 9 miles north of Amsterdam.
Any coffeeshops worth visiting there?
I hear it's about a half hour buss ride to Amsterdam Central. Is this about right?
