I think Maloe Melo is still doing a Jamsession night Sunday, Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evenings.
Check their schedule below.

Bourbon Street Blues hosts jam nights on Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays. Bring your own axe/instrument.

Outside of these options, I'd also like to hear if anyone knows of any decent "open mic" venues or jams happening elsewhere in Amsterdam.

Slightly off the original topic here but if you like classical music even a little bit go along to the concertgebouw (just by the Van Gogh & Rijksmuseums) on a Wednesday lunchtime as there is a free concert from 1230 to 1pm. Get there early as it fills up quickly.

thanks L & jen...classical music is always great to listen to.But read through the sites you linked lctricity...they look like great places, but i noticed its mostly jazz,do you think they would allow a spoken word based hiphop act play?

WOW OPEN TILL 4AM DURING THE WEEK?
That is incredible. I notice that most of the bars and clubs are open till very early in the morning during the week and even later at weekends.
Is the bar/club scene big business all week?
Where I live, the latest you will find a bar open during the week is midnight. Most actually close before then.
Please tell me more about these Amsterdam hang outs.

Unfortunately I doubt it. It's more of a music thing from what I gather.
I think there are venues around town that do the Open DJ Hip Hop thing, but I am not familiar with that scene persay.
Maybe do a search on Amsterdam Hip Hop Scene or Clubs and see what comes up.
Good Luck!
BTW, De Kuil 420 Cafe is on Oudebrugsteeg.

Probably one for lctricity here.
I was wondering if these late night blues cafes were smoker friendly and what the atmosphere/crowds are generally like (especially during the week).
Would like to try out some different styles of music while I'm there (especially if I've got all night to get into it)

I agree with Doog, I'm a real jazz lover and could really think of nothing finer than getting mash-up and chilling to some good jazz...
We're all ears lctricity...
