On a very recent trip my wife suffered a whitey in Basjoe's, I looked up to find her being helped to the door by James-she had just gone to the counter for a glass of water when it struck. I dutifully followed them outside where she threw up. James was relaxed and helpful, saying that this was part of his job- shit happens right  He was not his usuall happy self really, even before this happened and I had the impression he,s going through a bad patch-let's not forget his brother passed away quite recently and he's human. Being the main man with everyone expecting a happy smiling James must get to him at times.

If the guy is bright and cheery 100% of the time the guys with the white coats and butterfly nets would be called out to catch him. Never been to Basjoes but will be there in Sep for sure.

I agree with you USBONGLORD. The problem is probably that many of you have had great experiences there and the stories you tell are so good that one would expect heaven on earth. Sadly not all tastes are the same and that is why people like me have not felt the same atmosphere. Hell I wish I had. To conclude, I don't have any gripe with Basjoes, the insinuation that somehow we were to blame for our experiences is wrong though.

Feeling like your not wanted in here is more than enough to make you not want to go back.

Didn't we (acd) award this coffee shop a cup?

Can some please explain why? It wasn't for best coffee shop was it? Or for best strain?

Theres nothing like a made up micky mouse award! & i beleive it was hestia who gave it out?,Maybe it was the award for being there ganghut as it were? or maybe the most expensive shop in amsterdam?,Anyways i wont be back! KD.

The people who were there during 420 voted and DC tallied up said votes, the majority of the forum experiance a great coffeeshop and I generally feel gutted for those that have never experianced the warm friendly James most of us know and love.

4 - 15 euro are the average prices at just about every shop in the Centrum.

Peace,

Sad to read the last couple of pages of people not having a positive experience.
I have on a couple of occasions seen James not be his usual jovial self, but then again who is jovial all of the time, except maybe Santa Claus.
As for the young man that sometimes works behind the counter, it could be Leo's son (nephew to James). IF he was anything but polite and with a ready smile, it was because someone was being a douche. As for the others who work there, can't really say...

Also, I don't think the Hestia 4/20 Cup is a joke as some have eluded to (my opinion may be slightly off), regardless of who wins it. Last years winner was Greenplace, and deservedly so. This year it was Basjoe, also deserving. Next year, my guess is that it will be either Grey Area (John and crew) or Voyagers (Andy). Given that Andy is just getting his feet wet with Voyagers, I think he will be able to pull a nice rabbit out of his hat (or is that his ass?).

As some (USBL, me, and others) have stated, there are many shops for a person to find their perfect nirvana.
I've found mine...

Been here a few times, last time was Febuary.. nice coffeshop, but the weed is nothing amazing, just standard imo... i'd buy from there if everywhere else was closed, but it's not the cheapest and not enough cross strain flavours. Not sure what all the hype about this place is.. even if the guy dealing is friendly, I personally couldn't care how friendly the dealers are as long as I don't get mugged off!

Is it fair to compare an Irish pub that has thousands of euros in turnover everyday to a coffeeshop in the Centrum that's not on a high street? If you're on holiday is 50 cents here and there going to break the bank? I don't think spending 15E on a gram of G 13 is any different than spending the same for OG Kush or Amnesia Haze.

I wonder if KD would still be moaning if we were getting €1.50 per £1? the exchange rate is to blame for the high prices more than anything.
