The short answer is Body Cult. The long answer is below!
I had my first tattoo done in Amsterdam just two weeks ago.
It was my intention to go to Hanky Panky in the RLD, it's a bit of a biker hang out and is very well known for tattooing rock stars such as Kurt Cobain and countless others.

However, whilst walking there by complete chance I happened across a tattoo and piercing parlour called Body Cult which if memory serves me correctly is at the top end of Warmoesstraat (not far from Dam Sq). I was totally blown away by the photos of their work in the window, they were truly amazing. However the shop didn't open until noon and it was now 11am. I continued onto Hanky Panky but on the way there I’d really made my mind up to go to Body Cult and planned to call there to discuss it further later in the day.
I arrived at Hanky Panky and didn't even bother to go in. Body Cult seemed much more my kind of place, very professional looking, clean, quite funky etc. Although I am sure Hanky Panky is just like this too.
A short while later and by complete chance (again) I was on my way to check into my hotel in Rembrandtplein when I walked past another branch of Body Cult, this time on Regulierbreestr, which is the main road that leads from Muntplein to Rembrandtplein. I popped in and chatted to one of the artists, a chap called David, we discussed what I wanted, settled on a price (80E) and booked an appointment for 4pm the following day.
So, after enjoying a couple of doobies in Rokerij III the following afternoon (just around the corner from the tattoo parlour) to numb the coming pain I arrived for my appointment. After a coffee and a chat I sat in the chair and 20 mins later (and a little discomfort) I was the very proud owner of my first ever tattoo. I was and still am utterly thrilled with it, couldn't be happier. I plan to have another next year.
So, definitely go to Body Cult, they are superb.

Always be picky when it comes to a tattoo. I'm extensively tattooed and thought it would be sweet to get tattooed in the Dam. After some preliminary looking around though, I found that in my opinion, while the Dutch grow great weed the body art there is no more than fair to middlin'. Don't mean to insult anyones artwork. Just a matter of personal preference. If you can live with it for the rest of your life do it!!!
