It's not the same. James was the heart and soul of the place. But it's still a great spot late at night to hang outside and people watch.

Load of bollocks. Popped in earlier on, there was plenty of seats, it was just me not a big group, but I was turned away because I didn't want to buy weed. I just wanted a coke and a shelter from the rain for half an hour with a nice bit of rifman I'd picked up earlier, but now they've adopted this mandatory purchase horseshit I'll prob never darken Basjoe's doorstep again.
Such a shame.

Re: Basjoe
Just came back from my Amsterdam tour. Was there to relax from work, not to make sightseeings.
Just looked here for a recommended coffeeshop that wasnt directly in the city but not far away, and wasnt so noisy.
I read load about the Basjoe how it was back in the days and decided to visit the Shop.
I really loved the shop. Between morning and evening there are 2 different atmospheres.
at morning there are 2 Girls, 1 Asian one and one "Goth" really nice and talkactive. They tell you everything about their weed you wanna know and they can answer. I was there every morning for a "Choko Moko" hot choclate with Hashish and it was very tasty.
in the evenings there were 2 guys, they were nice too but different then the girls. The guys dont take their time to explain really much.
morning music is like raggea with old music like (the son of the Preacher man) and sometimes some hiphop.
evening music is like HipHop and Techno/Gabba/Dubstep.
Still the shop was one of the best in Amsterdam. Ill recommend this shop to everyone and will be back in 3 or 4 month(in April they have Wifi
)
The Weed and Hash:
I Liked their Menu of weed and Hash very much. They werent the cheapest ones out there but also not the priciest ones.
They had an amazing Blueberry Cheese (15€/g), some really tasty OG Kush and Candy Kush(OG 12,50€/g Candy 15€/g) and if u dont want to spend this much money, they even had some really nice Edelweiss and White Widdow (8€/g)
Im not the Hashsmoker normally, but after drinking the first "Choko Moko" i had to ask whats inside, it was Honey Marroc, and i bought 1 g of the Marrok. It was one of the first Hash i really liked, cause it had such a nice smell even a little bit like real Honey.
Alltogether: Its a nice Place to stay and have a relaxed Day, you can easily come in contact with Locals or other Tourists from all over the world. I had a talk with french, Dutch and A New Zealand guy.
The Openingtimes are: 10:00 - 01:00

Re: Basjoe
just like lokishadow says, theres two atmospheres in this CS.
when the asian girl is behind the counter you should go in there, if the two asian guys are there,
they've kind of an attitude, and they're doing this "no buying weed - no realxing in this place" shit, just come some other time.
the girl is like one of the nicest BT chicks I ever encountered, she'd let me touch, smell and examine every strain she got.
she's well eductaed about canabis and the strains and plays good music IMO. she'll let you smoke your own stash even without buying anything!
the weed I got here was really tasty and price range is also made for everyone,
from some lovely fruity champagne haze 16e to excellent white widdow and AK47 for 8e.
I have to admit that I unfortunately never saw the "old" basjoe. so I can't compare these two
but me and my friends really enjoyed sitting there. not the best but a really decent CS with excellent Hot Chocolate

Re: Basjoe
Could be better... The shell of the previous era made it difficult for me to enjoy it without the boys...
So, IMO it is for the best, I look forward to reopening though, we must go together
.. Nice budtenders, and great location..

I'm not sure I could see the shop in this condition.
My first taste of the Original Formula was in 2004; unfortunately six years later that formula changed when Leo died.
I suppose this is for the best, the new owners need to make their own legacy.
To Basjoe, the Original Formula - Leo, James, and the staff who made us feel like family.... Thank you.

Re: Basjoe
Thanks for the review. Reads like a advert for Basjoe's. I'm not sold. Had you walked 4 minutes up the canal to Greenplace you could have had Blueberry cheese for 11eu a gram. Also Kandy Kush for 15 eu a gram is one of the most expensive in town. I'm put off by the high prices. Better deals on the same weed can be found all over town. In some cases not far away either.Lokishadow wrote:Just came back from my Amsterdam tour. Was there to relax from work, not to make sightseeings.

What is special about Basjoe's itself, it's staff or the weed to justify these prices? Once I see a menu with 2g prices only I generally walk on by anyway. Compulsory purchase as well. Nice. Also they have gutted what was one of the best coffeeshop interiors in Amsterdam. To be replaced by what? Some souless minimalist nightmare no doubt.
Winnie walked past and the place was gutted. I'd have the same feeling if I walked on by now.
How much did you produce?

Re: Basjoe
May 2010 was the first time I tried to visit Basjoe. It was closed down. I went to the bookstore two doors down to the right. An extremely dodgy kind of guy was running that book shop and he said that one of Basjoe's owners, Leo, had been murdered the day before. Maybe he was curious (a bit too curious) why I was asking about Basjoe's, in which case I would have told him that there's an excellent site called ACD which highly recommended a visit, but he had a wild look in his eyes and was visibly getting worked up. I promptly left and would have to wait until my next visit to finally experience the place. James was so nice and his hospitality and recommendations were welcome. The BAS Special was an awesome all's right with the universe smoke. I was staring out the window at the canal and James walked by with a knowing smile on his face. I was in my special place and next thing I knew he gave me a free drink. A very friendly soul!Uncle Ron wrote:Thanks for the update...winnie wrote:I passed by Basjoes yesterday and noticed that it's been totally gutted inside.

I don't know if Leo was murdered or what happened. It is such a nice location, though. I hope the new owners can keep it up.
